Chapter 1467: The Washed-Clean Two-Legged Sheep
"Can you understand what I'm saying?" The members of the Regimental Headquarters surrounded the Tribal Chief, who was already kneeling on the ground, to interrogate him. However, given the blank look on the Tribal Chief's face, he likely couldn't understand a thing.
"He's a Tribal Chief, yet he can't even understand this? He's not as good as your own tribesmen. What if he gets tricked?" Ce complained from the side, then called over a Soldier from the Western Development Group to act as an interpreter.
After several rounds of questioning and back-and-forth, everyone confirmed that he was indeed the Tribal Chief of his own tribe, just as Bosa had said, and that he was also one of the great Tribal Chiefs of the entire Wulengge Tribe, holding a position of considerable importance.
Given his status and level of importance, the Huaxia side decided to keep him in solitary confinement and subject him to torture and interrogation over the next few days to see if they could dig anything else out of him.
Of course, they also lied to him, saying: "Bosa has already told us everything about your tribe and the entire Wulengge Tribe. He is still alive right now. If you cannot reveal useful information to us, you will be tortured to death by us."
After being questioned, the Tribal Chief also learned that this was not a cannibal tribe at all, but Huaxia—the very Huaxia that had once clashed with them—and that this place was merely a small part of Huaxia, not the whole of it. Under the impact of all this information, the Tribal Chief's psychological defenses were on the verge of breaking.
But he still had his own demand: "I want to see Bosa. I want to ask him why he lied to me and why he betrayed the Wulengge Tribe!"
He certainly wouldn't be seeing him; Bosa's corpse had already been buried, and in the future, the grass would grow even more lushly over that patch of ground.
"How could we possibly let you see Bosa? Bosa gave us information, so we treated him well. He is currently with the dozens of captives we caught earlier. You won't be seeing them; you are to be kept in solitary confinement."
"You still want to ask him why he betrayed the Wulengge Tribe? If you hadn't betrayed us, you would only have ended up dead."
The Tribal Chief roared at Ce: "Usamahakala, yati geyebo!"
"What does that mean?"
The interpreter curled his lip: "He said he isn't afraid of death, so come and kill him."
Ce was indifferent: "He talks a big game now, but we'll see when the time comes. Wasn't Bosa also very tough? In the end, didn't he spill everything? Everyone is afraid of death; who wouldn't be?"
The Tribal Chief was eventually hung up directly; they simply set up a few wooden posts and used ropes to suspend him in the air. It was extremely humiliating, with no dignity to speak of.
As for the remaining savages, they were all tied up, hand-to-hand, strung together in a line. They hadn't heard the conversation between the Tribal Chief and Huaxia, so they still assumed they had been captured by a cannibal tribe and that their deaths were certain.
But after Huaxia had them all strung up, they simply drove them into another sheep pen. This time, they had captured over 1,700 people—the number was truly too high. The corpses of those who had died, and those who were near death, were too numerous to count carefully. Many had also escaped; at least several hundred had gotten away, and Huaxia couldn't be bothered to chase them.
Huaxia's top priority now was to dispose of these corpses. Since this was right at their own doorstep and not out in the wilderness, they had to clean everything up thoroughly.
Now, everyone with free hands was gathered together. Far away from the residential area and away from the water source, they selected a deep pit, continued digging to expand it, and finally dragged all the corpses over to be dumped in. After that, they sprinkled a layer of Lime over them and buried them.
If it weren't for the fact that the Slaves were currently unstable and might escape or riot, this work would have been left to them.
The Huaxia people, who feared filth the most, were forced to handle these filthy corpses. It could be said that they were extremely repulsed, but there was no other way; if they didn't clean them up, they wouldn't be able to live here anymore.
Even that hillside felt like it needed to have the soil turned over; the blood had already seeped in, which would attract countless flies and mosquitoes, making it unbearable.
After cleaning up the corpses, everyone who had participated in the cleanup, under the glow of the fire, did as they had done before: they dug a large pit, heated stones, and then heated water to wash themselves clean.
Their clothes were all gathered and soaked in a pool nearby; both the people and the clothes felt like they needed a complete change.
If it were in the past, these people from the Western Development Group certainly wouldn't have been so particular; after all, they were savages too.
But now they were different. They were Huaxia people, and education on medical hygiene was widespread. Everyone only drank boiled water and washed their hands before meals and after using the latrine, because they had truly seen the worms in the excrement, and who wouldn't be afraid of that?
Over time, they became even cleaner. Even with their cattle and sheep, they tried to keep them clean. This was easy enough; as long as the place where the cattle and sheep slept was clean and dry, they wouldn't be that dirty.
For those who herded sheep, if the sheep's legs and tails were covered in black fecal mud, it meant that the person was very lazy and filthy. Otherwise, if you cleaned the pen every day, how could it be dirty?
The disposition of those captives would have to wait a little longer, but not too long. Because the situation had been urgent at the time, all the herdsmen outside had been recalled. They would likely drive back some or all of the cattle and sheep, because the few people left behind would be unable to watch over and graze all of them.
Furthermore, if it really came to an emergency, the livestock brought back could serve as food. Therefore, these savages had to be dealt with now; otherwise, if they occupied the sheep pens, where would the sheep live?
The captives also ran into each other: one group was the savages just brought back, still feeling fearful and confused, and the other group was the savages who had been stripped bare, washed clean, and had their hair shaved off.
Although it was hard to recognize the hairless savages, the hairless savages could recognize their own people who were still wearing clothes.
"Ah?!! How did you all get captured too? Where is the Tribal Chief? You didn't all lose, did you?"
They were strangers, but the familiar language left the newly captured savages feeling bewildered: "Which tribe are you from? How did you get captured too?"
"We're from the same tribe! We were led by Bosa, but we lost and were captured! What happened to you? Where is the Tribal Chief?"
Seeing their companions stripped bare and hairless, some of the savages couldn't help but start crying: "Wuwuwuwu... their hair has all been shaved off, and they've been washed clean. Are they going to eat several of them every day? Are we going to be eaten by them too? Will they kill us first, or just put us directly on the fire to roast?
Wuwuwuwuwuwu..."
The atmosphere in the entire sheep pen was exceptionally sorrowful. Everyone began to worry about their future, because now they felt they were no longer just simple captives; this was a cannibal tribe, and they were definitely going to be eaten as food.
Bosa had taken so many people with him, and now only this many were left. The others must have all been eaten, right?
They were now like sheep wearing hides, and the dozens next door were the sheep that had even had their hides stripped off. As soon as they were thrown on the fire, they could be roasted immediately.
