Chapter 168: Forget-Worry Lord
People in this era have absolutely no awareness of epidemic prevention; they just toss the dead aside at will. Baifeng now has a hypothesis: the reason humans first began funerals was to prevent the diseases brought by corpses, not to pile up dirt mounds to commemorate those who had already died.
Baifeng whispered a few words into the ear of a tribesman, and that person quickly took a few others and ran toward the direction of the Boat.
The moment Baoxi walked out of his Tent, he saw the disgust and avoidance in Baifeng's eyes toward the group of Slaves; he felt this was exactly how a superior should be. There was no need to have much contact with lowly, common Slaves, and he also loathed the foul stench on these Slaves.
However, Baoxi did not think this was such a good quality in Baifeng. He believed he should be the only true superior, and even Baifeng should be crawling at his feet. Not to mention the strength of the tribe, his own Suiren clan ancestors were not something a tribe that suddenly appeared like Baifeng's could compare to.
He sneered as he walked toward Baifeng: "Tribal Chief Baifeng, it has been a few winters and summers, are you well? I remember you said back then that you wanted to be my father. However, my father is already dead, but his concubines are still alive. Do you want them? I can give you a few to fulfill that humble dream of yours?"
Baifeng really wanted to agree just to disgust him, but upon closer thought, the values of people in this era were very strange and completely different from his own. He didn't know how they would interpret his own native curses. If he were to agree, and with so many people watching, if word got out that the Tribal Chief of the Baifeng tribe had some special hobbies, what face would he have left to hang around this river basin?
"You think my words meant I wanted to be your father? No, I just wanted to wipe out your nest."
While Baoxi was still pondering the meaning of this sentence, Baifeng spoke directly to him: "You had better hurry and find a place to bury those dead people, or burn them with a fire. Otherwise, Heaven will send down punishment upon the entire land, and by then, I fear few will be able to escape it. And do not throw these corpses into the water."
The not-yet-adult Baoxi looked up at Baifeng, who was much taller than him: "Are you teaching me how to do things?"
Baifeng was too lazy to talk to him any further; if he didn't want to listen, then so be it. In any case, they lived so far apart now that it wouldn't spread to their tribe. Furthermore, they had Alcohol, so he would make sure to disinfect thoroughly outside before returning to the tribe.
While they were talking, the people Baifeng had sent returned. They were carrying two jars of Wine and ran up to Baifeng. There were no Masks at this time, and the kind he made couldn't even block much dust, let alone viruses.
He just wanted to use this stuff to wash his hands, and incidentally, sell Baoxi on this delicious thing, hoping to get him addicted so he would drown in the land of Wine and turn into a puddle of mud.
At the same time, they also brought back the broken Small Knife and the Glass cups and bowls, all of which were intended to scam Baoxi.
Baifeng spoke directly: "I intend to trade for all the Slaves you have here who are still alive, have no disabilities, and are not injured. You give me a price."
Baoxi was not surprised by Baifeng's grand gesture, but he intended to give all the Slaves to the Baifeng tribe, leaving none behind. Since the Baifeng tribe needed population, he had to seize Baifeng's pain point and force him to take them all.
"I have a full one thousand four hundred and seventy Slaves here. I am afraid your Baifeng tribe does not have enough things to trade for them, right?"
Baifeng smiled without a word and flicked his finger lightly. Immediately, someone brought over a wooden stump to serve as a chair and placed it under Baifeng's backside, while also placing one for Baoxi.
He gestured with his hand to invite Baoxi to sit opposite him, and then a larger piece of wood was placed between the two as a table. These were all savages the Baifeng tribe had hired at a very small cost, just so Baifeng could put on a good show.
Baoxi was a bit confused by Baifeng's ostentatious behavior, but he still felt it was quite imposing. He just didn't know what Baifeng wanted to do, so he sat down as well.
This time, it was the Soldiers of the Baifeng tribe who, under Baoxi's gaze, opened a wooden box. Inside, on a base cushioned with Hemp Cloth, sat two small, blue-green colored cups. Even though Baoxi considered himself well-traveled, he did not recognize what these were.
Baifeng pinched one out with two fingers and held it up to the sun. The cup immediately refracted brilliant colors and had a translucent appearance; it looked nothing like something from the human world.
He handed the other one to Baoxi, who couldn't wait to pick it up and hold it to the sun. Sure enough, it was just as beautiful, and it felt cool and refreshing in his hand.
Baifeng asked: "These two cups used by Heaven, how many Slaves do you think they can trade for?"
Baoxi pondered for a moment. This thing seemed to have no other use besides drinking water, though perhaps it could be used for sacrifices. After all, it was something used by Heaven; Baoxi did not doubt it, because this thing could not possibly exist in the human world.
Although he felt a bit of heartache, he truly liked it and wanted it, so he had to give a price: "These two, four hundred Slaves."
Baifeng nodded. Hmm, this price could be considered "reasonable."
With a look, a tribesman nearby picked up the Wine jar and tore off the seal. A fragrance immediately wafted out. The people around were all greedily inhaling this delicious scent, while only the people of the Baifeng tribe looked at them like they were bumpkins.
The poured Wine was transparent in the air, but turned green when it landed in the cup, looking just like water, yet it was so fragrant.
One cup was given to Baoxi and one to Baifeng. Baifeng shook the cup lightly, brought it to his nose to smell it, and then took a small sip. Baoxi followed suit, though he took a larger gulp because it smelled truly too fragrant.
It was fragrant upon entering the mouth, then a bit spicy, and it went down very smoothly. Baoxi felt his entire esophagus burning; he frowned in discomfort, stroked his chest with his hand, and couldn't even speak.
The people of the Suiren clan nearby thought Baifeng had done something to their Tribal Chief and were preparing to attack, but they were stopped by Baoxi raising his hand.
The two people pouring the Wine snickered on the side. Although they had been the same the first time they drank it, they now felt Baoxi was a country bumpkin.
Baifeng glared at them, and they immediately restrained themselves.
"How is the taste? This is water drunk by Heaven, named Wine, also known as Forget-Worry Lord. Drink a little, and it can dispel cold and is good for the body. Drink more, and it can make people forget their worries. It is the best thing in the world."
"This is called Wine?"
Baifeng nodded, and the people around also let out an "oh" to show they understood. Although they hadn't tasted it, they had seen things used and drunk by Heaven, and felt they would have something to brag about to others when they went back. This was not something just anyone had the opportunity to see.
