Chapter 422: Immortal Rice
Xiong, who was far away at the Golden Autumn Gathering, had no idea what had happened in Huaxia; of course, by the time the war broke out, Xiong was already on his way back.
Returning to earlier, after the people from the Wulengge Tribe had smoked away all of Xiong's customers, they had temporarily closed their stall, while Xiong was searching through the various stalls for things he wanted.
There were all kinds of local specialties here, strange and unusual, but basically things that their Huaxia Tribe did not need, until Xiong saw a stall displaying strings of red, very beautiful plants; their stalks were not tall, but the number of ears on them was high, and the ears were very long—a closer look revealed they were densely packed with seeds, just like elongated grain ears.
His first instinct was that the yield of this thing was truly high, he just didn't know if it was edible; if it could be eaten, wouldn't bringing it back to plant as a food crop be a higher yield than their current food?
However, the people around did not seem to have much interest in it, so Xiong stepped forward to ask: "What is this thing of yours, can it be eaten?"
But unexpectedly, the stall owner stared at Xiong with a look of confusion, and finally said with a tone of slight skepticism: "If it couldn't be eaten, why would I put this thing here?"
Xiong felt a bit awkward, but the stall owner's attitude was somewhat poor; he wanted to ask more carefully, but the stall owner seemed a bit impatient, though he himself looked like someone who was always starving, not even wearing a complete set of clothes, and the fur he wore had matted hair.
Fortunately, a savage nearby saw Xiong and recognized at a glance that Xiong was from that Huaxia Tribe—after all, such an appearance was very conspicuous throughout the entire gathering—and his impression of Huaxia was still quite good, especially since he had just inhaled the wine aroma for a long time, so he spoke up from the side: "This thing, we call it Immortal Rice, it can be eaten, the leaves can be eaten too, and there isn't a shortage of it in the wild; many tribes rely on it to survive the Winter, but I don't know why this guy put it out here, could it be that someone would actually trade for this thing?"
As soon as Xiong heard this, his expression immediately became joyful; as long as it could be eaten, such a high yield could definitely become another major food crop for their Huaxia, and even if it didn't taste good, it could be used as fodder, right?
So he pressed the savage from before: "Since you say so, does your tribe have this Immortal Rice too?"
That Soldier nodded: "Of course, this time when we came, the food we brought included a lot of Immortal Rice."
Upon hearing this, Xiong immediately made a decision, wanting to trade for the Immortal Rice with this savage, using Salted Fish.
When the savage heard this, the sweet reed root he was chewing in his mouth fell to the ground involuntarily: "You really want to trade? This, this thing is everywhere in the wild."
Xiong assured him he wasn't lying, and the savage immediately beamed with joy, telling Xiong to wait right there for him, he would go back and get it now.
The original stall owner, from his initial impatience, now became fawning: "This Tribal Chief, look, why don't you trade for these Immortal Rice of ours as well, our tribe only has this much left."
Xiong acted as if he hadn't heard, turned his back, moved a bit further away, and went to look at the stall opposite.
At this moment, that savage stall owner began to wail uncontrollably, attracting the gazes of people passing by, but everyone thought this savage was just too cowardly, crying for no reason.
Xiong became increasingly annoyed, wanting to turn around and give that savage a kick, but fortunately, the savage who went to fetch the Immortal Rice arrived at this time; he ran over panting, accompanied by his tribe's Tribal Chief, because they didn't believe that any tribe would actually trade for Immortal Rice.
But in the end, he was still shocked, because Xiong really took out a piece of Salted Fish, then used a Knife to cut it in half, exchanging it for the small bag of Immortal Rice they were holding.
They all felt they had profited, the trade was very pleasant, and the people around saw it and all said their tribes also had Immortal Rice, asking if Xiong needed to trade, their prices could be even lower.
Xiong looked at the Immortal Rice that had already been poured into their bag; he had just checked the quality, dry and plump, of superior quality, enough to be used as seeds, so he had to tell everyone that they didn't need any more, this amount was enough.
The crowd of savages were uninterested, sighed, and dispersed; they only felt they hadn't caught that good luck.
Over at the Huaxia stall, people had come again, but the Huaxia stall was still empty; they had just lit the mugwort to drive away the strange odors, not expecting anyone to come over.
They also seemed to have come with a purpose, asking as soon as they spoke: "You are from the Huaxia Tribe, right? How much of your Wine is left? We want it all!"
The Soldier guarding the stall heard this and was first incredulous, but once he saw the clothing, temperament, and physique of these people, he knew this was a real big customer, definitely not those savages who just came to sniff the scent.
So he put on a fawning, small-tribe-style smile: "We still have a lot of Wine left, almost a full jar; do you really want it? The price will be very high."
The person who came frowned: "Go and ask around, who here doesn't know our Jiangshui Tribe? Even this gathering here was initiated by our Jiangshui Tribe, don't you know that?"
The Huaxia Soldier was stunned and turned to look at the savages around, but they showed no unusual reaction, which meant that what the person said was not a lie; the Huaxia Soldier dared not say anything reckless and could only reply weakly: "Of course I know the Jiangshui Tribe, I just didn't recognize you; since you are from the Jiangshui Tribe, then I can certainly believe you have the ability to afford the trade, it's just that before we trade, I must tell you, this Wine of ours is..."
"Hey, alright, stop talking, we all know; our Leader just drank this Wine of yours, and our Tribal Chief told us to come and trade for the Wine."
The Huaxia Soldier heard this and suddenly realized: "Oh, that person just now was your Leader? How is he now? He only drank that little bit, there shouldn't be any major..."
Seeing the expressions of those two Soldiers change—not to anger, but to something strange—they then leaned close to the Huaxia Soldier and whispered: "This Wine of yours is a bit too powerful; after our Leader went back, he said he was infinitely strong, the number one warrior in the world, and that the entire Jiangshui Tribe would be his; our Tribal Chief thought this might be a prophecy from the gods, a reward given to him by the gods after he met them, so our Tribal Chief killed him!"
After hearing this, the Huaxia Soldier immediately dodged far away; this news was too explosive, so explosive it felt like he had swallowed a fly; it would be best if this Jiangshui Tribe didn't cause any more trouble after trading for the Wine, otherwise, their Huaxia might all be unlucky together.
But now with this matter, plus the need to trade a whole jar of Wine, the amount was a bit large, and he couldn't make the decision, so he said to the people who came: "Our Tribal Chief is not here, he went outside to find things; a jar of Wine is too much, I can't make the decision, wait until I find him first, how about that?"
The two people opposite looked at each other and did not refuse, only telling him to find him quickly, as they could not delay for too long.
