Chapter 82: Xuechi Luo Have Never Been Wild

~6 min read 1,101 words

Su Yue arrived at the Third Classroom.

She found everyone usually cultivated alone, only occasionally exchanging a few brief words when free, and the topics were always about cultivation.

The atmosphere here was different from the First Classroom, where cultivation was frantic and rushed.

Here, cultivation was orderly.

She didn’t know anyone except Su Jin.

So when others spoke, she didn’t dare interject, and simply secluded herself in a corner to cultivate.

The next day, after class, the seven of them moved to the Third Classroom; some cultivated, others practiced spells.

Su Yue had retrieved the spell book yesterday, but she was still pondering it and hadn’t begun cultivation yet.

So when she saw Su Jin practicing a spell, she walked over and watched, eyes fixed.

Su Jin was cultivating the Entangling Technique using her yellow-skinned gourd vines and could now control two vines simultaneously. Yesterday, during her sparring match with Su Wuji, his single vine-whip was utterly unable to defend against her two gourd vines.

Su Jin entangled one of his vine-whips, while the other gourd vine lashed out, forcing Su Wuji to leap and dodge while shouting unfairness—he vowed that once he cultivated two vine-whips, he’d seek revenge.

Su Cheng was now too terrified to challenge her with just a single wooden spear.

Su Jin currently ranked first in spell proficiency.

The other students had just chosen their preferred spells and hadn’t begun practicing yet.

Su Yue stared intently as Su Jin manipulated the two gourd vines, which darted and twisted like two green snakes around her.

Su Jin could make the two vines coil wherever she willed—so cool!!

“Su Jin, your Entangling Technique doesn’t match the description I read,” Su Yue said suspiciously. “I also chose the Entangling Technique, but it only seems to bind targets—it can’t be used like a vine-whip or disrupt enemy attacks like yours.”

“You only took the spell book, but didn’t get any cultivation notes?” Su Jin immediately knew where the problem lay.

“What? There are cultivation notes for spells?” Su Yue exclaimed in shock. “There’s something like that?”

“Of course, there are many variations. The first floor of the Library holds countless cultivation notes for every spell. My Entangling Technique was improved after studying the senior cultivators’ notes—I don’t know what others think, but I believe my version suits me perfectly.”

“I can make it fly however I want, coil around anything I choose.”

“Does the Library really have cultivation notes for every spell? Are there many for each one?” Su Yue asked again.

“Yes, go see for yourself,” Su Jin said.

“Su Jin, thank you for telling me this important thing. You’re still as kind as before. Su Lan said you changed, that you became selfish and only cared for yourself, but I think you haven’t changed.”

Su Jin’s face darkened.

“We came to the clan school to learn and cultivate. Everyone here is no longer a naive child. If I can help you, I will. But if you expect me to slow my own cultivation, sacrifice my time for you—that’s impossible.”

“If you think I’ve changed, then fine—I’ve changed.” She spoke seriously.

Su Jin thought: My parents spent so many spirit stones to get me into the clan school—I will never delay my own progress just because you say I’ve changed. Sacrificing myself for others is out of the question.

Su Yue opened her mouth in surprise.

Clearly, Su Lan hadn’t told the whole truth.

At least the claim that Su Jin reported her and nearly got her expelled must have hidden details.

“Do you want to know what Su Lan said about you?” Su Yue asked.

Su Jin shook her head. “No. I’d rather spend that time practicing one more spell.”

Su Yue was speechless.

“Then I’ll go get the cultivation notes first—we can talk later.”

“Go ahead.”

When Su Yue returned, class was nearly over. She had spent nearly the entire afternoon in the Library.

That night, when Su Jin returned home, she noticed many more patrol officers on the clan streets.

Some wore patrol uniforms; others wore clan magic robes.

Clearly, they were clan cultivators on official assignments.

With more patrols, strangers were stopped and questioned.

Even the street vendors who once sold vegetables were gone.

This situation was odd.

She rushed home and asked—her sister-in-law and Xiaohe hadn’t left home in days and knew nothing of the outside. Her eldest brother was said to have taken a clan task and gone out.

When Su Hua returned, she asked him too—but he didn’t know either.

Only after dinner did her eldest brother return.

Seeing him wearing the clan magic robe, Su Jin immediately asked: “Brother, are you patrolling the streets too?”

“I’m not patrolling, but I’ve taken on plenty of work. The clan has recalled many cultivators for duty.”

“The clan is currently investigating certain matters. You shouldn’t ask about things you’re not meant to know. Also, if you see clusters of mutated black locusts anywhere, don’t go near them—confirm their location from afar, then notify the clan.”

“Understood?” Su Jian spoke with strict seriousness.

Su Hua and Su Jin nodded together.

“Su Jin, don’t take your Xuechi Luo outside the house. Someone’s been saying they want to capture a Xuechi Luo—ha, as if they’re even worthy.” Su Jian sneered.

“Brother, who’s saying they want to capture a Xuechi Luo? Will they come to our house to steal it?” Su Jin asked, tense.

She only had one companion spirit—what’s the problem?

Why target her Xuechi Luo?

“As long as you don’t take your Xuechi Luo outside, who dares break into our home? Your grandfather isn’t someone to be trifled with,” Su Jian reassured her.

“It’s strange—why are they saying they want to capture a Xuechi Luo? Have they even seen one?” Su Jin asked, puzzled.

“Because insect plagues have broken out in the West, North, and South City—only our East City remains untouched. And not long ago, when we went outside the city, we encountered that monster. Your Xuechi Luo, greedy as always, ate the little monster, revealing its existence to outsiders.”

“Linking these two facts, someone guessed an Xuechi Luo is hiding in East City.”

“Because it’s here, East City has no insect plague!”

“So some fool dares say they want to capture an Xuechi Luo as a pet. These idiots don’t think—Xuechi Luo have never been wild. They’re always bound to a master.” Su Jian sneered. “And Xuechi Luo are only passed down among the Wood Witch descendants. They want to capture one? Let them fear the Wood Clan Great Witch knocking on their doors.”
