Chapter 85: Fat Worm

~6 min read 1,158 words

Just when everyone thought Yang Guan would definitely not make it, Liu Shi came to the Third Classroom again.

"Yang Guan, come out for a moment."

Then Yang Guan was taken away by her, and only returned just before dismissal.

As soon as Yang Guan came back, he slumped against Su Linyuan like a strand of noodles, as if without Su Linyuan's support he would collapse instantly. "Quick, give me some Spirit Dew or something—I'm done for, dying of thirst."

Everyone found him looking utterly exhausted and pitiful.

Su Jin even contributed a small bowl of Bing Chen Lu.

After all, the water Su Linyuan brought was just ordinary warm boiled water; in the entire Third Classroom, only Su Jin routinely carried Spirit Dew with her.

Yang Guan swallowed the Bing Chen Lu in one gulp, waited several breaths until the spiritual energy permeated his gut, then finally looked relieved and said: "I've suffered so much. I defeated four opponents just to secure the last spot in the Beast Blood Vein-Purifying Pool."

"What happened? How did you suddenly get a spot in the Beast Blood Vein-Purifying Pool? Weren't all the spots already decided yesterday?" Everyone stared at him in shock—even Su Wujie couldn't help but ask bluntly.

"A lot has been happening in our Xiancheng lately. The Beast Blood Vein-Purifying Pool outside the city is no longer a hot commodity—it opens every year anyway. But each family only has one child, so many parents don't want their kids leaving the city right now."

"What if they get caught in danger and lose their lives?"

So some parents forcibly ordered their children to withdraw from this year's Beast Blood Vein-Purifying Pool purification.

As a result, five originally reserved spots became vacant.

And these five spots attracted twenty-five first-year students competing for them. I literally fought through blood and death, defeated four people, and barely secured this last spot." Yang Guan truly felt he had endured great suffering.

For one spot, he had pushed himself to the brink.

"Regardless, getting the spot is good news. We're leaving for five days—Yang Guan, go home today and pack your things." Su Wujie said.

"Don't worry, I know we're leaving first thing tomorrow. I'll pack everything." Yang Guan replied immediately.

Su Wujie nodded; now that Yang Guan was going too, he'd have company.

The next morning, Su Wujie and Yang Guan set off with the headmaster and vice-headmistress Su Jiuniang.

With them gone, Su Jin and the others still had to attend class.

A few days later, the entire Xiancheng suddenly became filled with the atmosphere of war overnight.

When Su Jin asked at school, she learned that the Patrol Office had clashed with a group of half-insect people outside the city.

It was said the battle nearly reached the Beast Blood Vein-Purifying Pool.

Su Jin's elder brother Su Jian had also been reassigned and hadn't returned home for several days—no one knew where the clan had sent him for patrol or duty.

Su Wujie's return was delayed.

They were supposed to come back the very day the Beast Blood Vein-Purifying Pool closed.

But now five or six days had passed, and they still hadn't returned.

One day, on her way home from school, Su Jin encountered chaos—some people were frantically fleeing, others were chasing them wildly.

Remember, this was the Su clan's ancestral territory.

Who on earth had stupidly run in here?

Once you enter the Su clan's territory, can you possibly escape?

Su Jin glanced disdainfully at the five people sprinting past her on the street.

As expected, she saw several patrol squads closing in from all directions.

Those five were definitely not getting away.

Su Jin stood silently at a street corner, waiting for the street to calm down.

Only when the street was quiet again would she continue walking home, to avoid being crushed by the crowd due to her small stature.

Finally, when the street returned to its usual flow of people, Su Jin stepped down from the corner steps.

She raised her foot to step over a patch of weeds—and immediately saw a plump, white, four-winged giant fat worm hiding beneath a leaf.

Su Jin swiftly snatched the fat worm and tossed it into a small wooden box inside her schoolbag.

Su Jin grabbed her schoolbag and basket and sprinted back home.

As soon as she got home, she ran to the backyard.

Then she called out Xue Chiluo and threw the giant fat worm beside it.

Xue Chiluo immediately leapt with joy, its roots firmly and precisely piercing the fat worm's body.

The fat worm screamed and turned into a dried husk.

"I knew you'd love this kind of worm—so white, so plump, so fat," Su Jin laughed.

"Grandma, this worm is delicious—I'm going to sleep now."

"Go ahead," Su Jin replied.

At dinner, Su Jian suddenly returned—and brought home a young cultivator.

Su Jin recognized the man.

Wasn't this Su Hanlin, her brother's friend?

"Elder Brother, Brother Hanlin," Su Jin quickly bowed in greeting.

Her sister-in-law also knew Su Hanlin and came forward with her two daughters to pay respects.

Su Hanlin returned the greeting and immediately pulled the two nieces up. "No need for such formality—I'm a regular here."

"Exactly. Hanlin comes to our house often; it's just Su Jin who doesn't know him well. Xiao Jin, your Brother Hanlin is a cold exterior with a warm heart. You'll see once you spend more time with him," Su Jian said.

"Now you've made me feel like my cheeks are blushing," Su Hanlin grumbled.

"I'm just telling the truth—why are you blushing?"

"I…" Su Hanlin was speechless.

Ha ha, Su Jian couldn't help laughing.

The sister-in-law cooked two more dishes, and everyone resumed dinner.

Su Hanlin was quite humorous, teasing and joking with Su Jian, making Su Jin, Su Hua, and Su Xiaohe laugh so hard their stomachs hurt.

After dinner, Su Jin and Su Hua went to cultivate. Liu Yunniang also took her young daughter Su Xiaohe back to their room to play.

Su Jian and Su Hanlin then moved to the study.

"You'll sleep here for the next few days," Su Jian said. "There's a bed in the study—it's yours now. The bedding is in the wooden chest at the head of the bed; help yourself."

"Don't worry, I know your home's layout better than you do," Su Hanlin chuckled.

"Alright, then take care of it yourself. Don't come complaining later that I didn't look after you well," Su Jian laughed.

"How could that ever happen?" Su Hanlin laughed along.

"I really owe you for pulling me out of this again—if not for you, I'd be truly homeless. I never expected them to use such underhanded tactics to push me out," Su Hanlin said, anger flickering in his eyes.

"Every one of those Information Bureau bastards has backing," Su Jian said. "You got in their way—they'll sink to any level to strike you."
