Chapter 264: Dross
Cheng Shuili stood in front of the main gate of the three-story hospital built of gray-white stone at the center of Shou Ren Xiao Zhen, looking up at it.
A wooden sign stood at the hospital entrance, with crooked human characters and beastman script writing "Emergency 24-hour service."
"Come on, let's go inside and take a look."
Cheng Shuili said to Su Rui, and the two pushed open the heavy wooden door.
The hospital interior was much more modern than imagined.
Under bright lights, several beastman doctors in white coats were busy.
A nurse with rabbit ears stood behind the triage desk, and upon seeing them enter, she immediately perked up her ears.
"Hello, may I ask what assistance you need?"
The rabbit nurse asked in a clear voice.
Cheng Shuili was observing the hospital's interior decoration, and since the rabbit nurse was asking Su Rui, Su Rui could only give a rather abstract description.
"I have a friend... yes, a friend who got shot and can't come over. Is there any means for remote treatment, or a medicine we can take with us that will completely cure her injury?"
The rabbit nurse gave a businesslike smile, "You want to see a doctor from another place, right? First go pay the fee, then register, and wait for your number to be called."
That statement seemed to contain a lot of information, but in fact it wasn't detailed at all.
For example... where is the payment made? Where is registration? Which department should they register for? With so many questions unclear, what exactly does the rabbit nurse's answer mean?
How come this damned place hasn't learned any human compassion between people, yet has learned a whole bunch of dross?!
Su Rui frowned, took a step forward to ask again, but Cheng Shuili pulled her away. She exclaimed anxiously, "Boss! We haven't gotten it clear yet—if we leave now, where are we going?"
What she said made perfect sense, but Cheng Shuili also had his own reasoning!
She narrowed her eyes, raised her hand and pointed—over there, not far off, was a wolf-tribe beastman in a white coat.
Su Rui instantly calmed down, feeling lost and helpless, and her aimless anxiety vanished all at once.
What is this?
Is this a wolf-tribe beastman? This is family! This is the savior!
The two hurried to the wolf-tribe beastman's front; before they could say anything, he seemed to sense something, his expression suddenly changed, and with a thud he knelt before Cheng Shuili.
Su Rui was speechless; this too was dross!
Cheng Shuili sighed, about to reach out to help the wolf up, when he heard the rabbit nurse—who had been listless while answering the question—suddenly shout with full energy: "Someone's causing a medical disturbance!!!"
Medical disturbance?
What?
As Cheng Shuili extended his hand, the beastman security guards stationed in the first-floor lobby arrived—two leopard-tribe beastmen, equally fierce in species and appearance—immediately surrounded them.
This was Cheng Shuili's first encounter with such imposing leopard-tribe beastmen; before seeing these two, she had always thought leopards were as cute as Bao Chi.
Only after the two beastman security guards forcibly separated her and the wolf-tribe doctor did Cheng Shuili finally realize:
The person the rabbit nurse called out as causing a medical disturbance was her.
Cheng Shuili: "......"
She furrowed her brows and glanced back at the rabbit nurse watching the commotion: even if you don't want to work, you can't just spread rumors about others, can you?
"Wait! This is a misunderstanding!"
Cheng Shuili raised both hands to show she meant no harm, but the two leopard-tribe security guards already bared their sharp claws, letting out threatening low growls from their throats, clearly intending to expel both humans together.
Su Rui quickly stepped in front of Cheng Shuili, her voice tinged with uncommon tension: "We're just here to seek medical help; we have no intention of causing a medical disturbance!"
"Then why did you force our doctor to kneel?"
One of the leopard-tribe security guards obviously didn't believe it; his golden pupils contracted into a thin line as he lowly questioned.
Cheng Shuili felt a surge of absurdity and turned her head to look at the wolf-tribe doctor.
At that moment, he had his head lowered, ears pressed against his scalp, tail tucked between his legs—a picture of utter fright.
This appearance really makes it easy for beasts to misunderstand.
Cheng Shuili was speechless, and unusually urgently asked: "Can't you at least get up first?"
The wolf-man doctor's lips trembled several times before he finally spoke: "King..."
Cheng Shuili could see he had made an effort, but she didn't know why—he just couldn't manage to stand up.
Fortunately, he had a mouth: "Not a medical disturbance, not a medical disturbance! This is our king—don't misunderstand!"
While explaining, he struggled to stand up, failing several times; then he gave a wry smile to the nearby guard and said, "Seeing the king for the first time... I was so excited my legs went weak—could you help me up?"
Guard: "......"
Su Rui: "......"
Cheng Shuili: "......"
Really strange.
Even though this wolf-man doctor was embarrassed, why does Cheng Shuili feel she can't lift her head a bit?
The farce finally ended; Cheng Shuili looked at this disappointing clansman before her, sighed, and inwardly reminded herself that important matters come first.
Yes, take care of business first!
Cheng Shuili shifted her gaze, landing on the wolf-tribe doctor with drooping ears.
The wolf-tribe doctor was doubting himself, feeling he had disgraced himself and was a sinner to the entire wolf tribe, when he met Cheng Shuili's gaze.
He instantly felt even more ashamed to face anyone.
The king's gaze was so helpless yet tolerant, like looking at a cub that had overturned its food bowl. The king trusted him so much, yet he...
As a doctor he should have a cold, hard professional image, and as a wolf-tribe member he should have pride, but at this moment both turned into shame.
He truly lost too much wolf face... (sobbing)
"Take care of business first."
Cheng Shuili's voice pulled the wolf-man doctor back to reality.
Langren Yisheng instantly realized this was a perfect opportunity to erase Wang's impression of him!
He immediately perked up and asked, "Wang, what brings you to the hospital this time?"
This kind of question didn't need Cheng Shuili to speak; Su Rui raised her brow, stepped forward, and repeated the purpose.
Langren Yisheng heard that, furrowed his brow, and repeated, "Gunshot wound?"
He finally showed a bit of the professionalism a doctor should have.
Cheng Shuili nodded, and Langren Yisheng, as if encouraged, became more talkative: "Is the bullet still in the body? If it is, the person must come to the hospital. If the bullet is not inside, it must be distinguished as a graze or a penetrating wound; grazes are easy to talk about, but penetrating wounds are a bit troublesome."
Suddenly he became professional.
Great!
Cheng Shuili replied: "It's a penetrating wound."
Langren Yisheng paused, organized his words, then said: "Being able to cure it is certain; you don't need to worry about that, but the time required for treatment is uncertain."
That's saying there is an explanation.
Cheng Shuili: "Elaborate."
Langren Yisheng looked at Su Rui, then at the rabbit nurse over there who occasionally glanced this way, and said softly: "Wang... let's go to my office to talk in detail?"
