Chapter 547: Clawing Bite
Cheng Shuili looks toward Mingri.
Mingri seems to sense something, slowly lifts his head.
Their gazes meet.
Mingri's eyes are swollen red, his lips chapped, his complexion ghastly. Yet those eyes still retain the ruthless vigor of a broken pot smashing itself.
He stares at Cheng Shuili, then suddenly grins.
"So you're Wu Ya Zuo Fei Ji? You actually came yourself?" His voice is hoarse, with a laugh, "What are you here for? To judge me in person? Ha, damn thing."
Cheng Shuili says nothing, just watches him.
Her expression is calm, her eyes show no emotion, completely ignoring Mingri's words.
This look makes Mingri feel uneasy, the smile on his face gradually fades.
He snarls, throat stiff, "What are you looking at? If you want to kill or maim, do it quickly; don't play mind games with me here."
Cheng Shuili hasn't moved, Ya Dang Si clenches his fist and rushes toward Mingri's face.
"Uhm."
The sound of the fist hitting the face is especially loud; Mingri lets out a painful cry, tilts his head as if about to collapse.
The two holding him quickly apply force, finally stabilizing Mingri's posture.
Ya Dang Si, ignoring his disgrace, rubs his fist, then turns to Cheng Shuili with an apologetic smile: "Wuya Lao Da, sorry for the embarrassment. He was like this yesterday; he interrogated all night and didn't spit out anything. I was also holding a grudge, couldn't stand it any longer."
Cheng Shuili gives him a glance, says nothing.
Ya Dang Si feels a chill from that look, awkwardly withdraws his hand, steps back: "You continue, you continue."
Mingri hangs his head, a strand of blood seeps from his mouth corner, yet he still smiles.
"Ya Dang Si, you're such a good dog." He lifts his head, fixes his gaze on Ya Dang Si, hatred in his eyes nearly overflowing, "I've followed you since I first entered this world, done countless unsavory deeds for you. And now you treat me like this."
Ya Dang Si furrows his brows, his gaze falls on Mingri, as if wanting to say something, but he swallows it, his eyes shift away.
Mingri looks again at Cheng Shuili, blood on his chin drips down, but he smiles even wider.
"Wu Ya Zuo Fei Ji, you know? This matter wasn't done by me at all."
His voice is hoarse, with the reckless joy of a broken pot, "It was Ya Dang Si, he made me do it!"
The air suddenly falls silent.
Ya Dang Si's eyes widen instantly: "You're farting!"
Mingri ignores him, stares at Cheng Shuili, pausing after each word:
"He's been eyeing the privileges of the Great Wall Watchers and other forces in the safe zone for a long time. Yet he dares not act himself, fearing to offend anyone. So he let me step in, find someone to set the rhythm, incite players from other regions to assassinate Guanghui.
When it succeeded, he reaped the profit. If it failed, he'd throw me out as the scapegoat, and could still buy you a good one. Look at him, his tail wagging so happily; he's long wanted to follow you!"
"I ****" Ya Dang Si lunges forward, but is firmly pulled back by someone behind him.
Yet his legs are so long that the huge foot still lands on Mingri, the dust‑covered sole leaving a gray imprint, causing Cheng Shuili to frown.
"Ya Dang Si, calm down." Cheng Shuili presses him down, her fingers subtly pinching his shoulder.
Ya Dang Si feels his shoulder as if clamped by iron pliers.
He struggles once, but does not move.
He struggles again, still unmoving.
He turns his head toward Cheng Shuili, a hint of shock in his eyes.
Is this the power of Wuya Dalao?
Previously, some in the New Federation claimed Wu Ya's strength didn't deserve this position—who said that! Who exactly said it?!
Ya Dang Si wishes he could find that person now, let them truly feel Wu Ya's absurdly overwhelming force.
Shock flashes on his face, yet he can't help feeling a sigh inside.
Fortunately, his grandfather sent him to live in Long Guo for a while, preventing him from developing the strange stereotypes others have about Long Guo, leading to today's meeting.
Ya Dang Si can't even imagine—if he received a warning and didn't react, didn't press people to seek Wu Ya's confession…
Ya Dang Si shivers, instantly becoming much quieter.
Cheng Shuili ignores him, releases her grip, steps forward two paces, and stops before Mingri.
Mingri lifts his head to look at her, blood still at his mouth corner, but the ruthless vigor in his eyes grows stronger.
"What?" he croaks, "Don't believe? Or still too scared to believe?"
Cheng Shuili says nothing, just watches him.
That gaze remains as calm as before, so calm it turns Mingri's lingering smugness into unease.
"You…"
"You finished?" Cheng Shuili asks.
Mingri is startled.
Cheng Shuili's voice is soft; she leans down slightly, meeting Mingri eye‑to‑eye: "If you're done, be honest now; you'll have a chance to speak later."
As the words fall, a person holding Mingri beside her deftly pulls out a towel and stuffs it into his mouth.
Cheng Shuili gives her a satisfied glance, straightens, shoots a look at the two holding Mingri, and says coolly: "Follow me."
Without looking back, she walks toward a direction.
The two holding Mingri instinctively start to follow.
Ya Dang Si panics; these are the people he brought, how can they now obey Wu Ya's orders? Do they still see him as the boss?!
He immediately clears his throat lightly.
The two holding Mingri pause, looking uneasy, glancing at Ya Dang Si, then at Cheng Shuili who has already walked several steps away.
Cheng Shuili also stops, turns back for a glance.
That gaze is faint, as if asking: Anything else?
Adams was swept by that gaze, and the words at his lips took a detour: "That... Wuya Lao Da, I have no objection to you interrogating him. But these two are my men. If they go in with him and happen to hear something they shouldn't—"
He paused, smiling with utmost sincerity: "I'm just worried about putting you in a difficult spot."
Cheng Shuili gave a soft chuckle and looked at him: "You come too. Whatever Mingri can come up with tomorrow, we'll all listen carefully."
Adams was taken aback for a moment, then his smile grew even more sincere: "That'd be great!"
He waved his hand, signaling the two men to follow, and strode over to Cheng Shuili's side, lowering his voice: "Wuya Lao Da, do you really believe he can spit out something useful?"
Cheng Shuili didn't look at him and kept walking forward.
"That bite he gave me just now was really vicious," Adams said to himself. "If you hadn't held me back, I'd have beaten him good. What deep grudge, what bitter resentment—he's actually wronging me like this!"
As he spoke, he laughed first: "But then again, it'd be strange if he didn't hate me. After all, these past days, I really did make him do quite a lot of dirty work."
Cheng Shuili glanced at him. "Say what you mean directly."
"I'm saying I haven't wronged him either."
Adams smiled, suddenly looking much more at ease: "This guy's attributes are mediocre across the board—no strength to speak of, no emotional intelligence to speak of—and now, of all things, he's gone and become a traitor!"
