Chapter 390: The Dao of the Three Pure Ones: From This Mountain to That Ridge

~6 min read 1,179 words

"We finally returned to the civilized world!" Lu Yuan said happily.

The two excitedly wandered the city for a day, taking in the crowds to relax their minds.

In the evening, they went to a high-end restaurant, ordered many delicacies and fine wines, and began to celebrate enthusiastically.

"I propose we have a drink to celebrate our triumphant return!" Lu Yuan raised his cup.

"Cheers!" King Qi also raised his cup and clinked it with his.

The two were drinking heartily, feeling the happiest moment of their lives, when suddenly a commotion came from outside the door.

Lu Yuan and King Qi both felt their hearts tighten; they exchanged a glance, seeing beautiful terror in each other's eyes—could it be that world would not let them go, the shadow of fate still closing in?

They quietly went outside, following the source of the commotion, and saw a ragged old man lying on the ground trembling nonstop, looking extremely painful. A few jianghu folk stood aside, looking bewildered.

"What's wrong with this old man?"

"He looks like he encountered something terrible."

"What is he saying? I can't hear clearly."

Lu Yuan's heart skipped a beat; he faintly felt this matter was not simple. He and King Qi stepped forward to listen to the old man muttering to himself:

"The monster space rift is about to end."

"What did you say? Are monsters coming out of the space rift?" King Qi's heart tightened as he pressed.

"Exactly! It's the place you just escaped from!" The old man grabbed King Qi's hand, nodding frantically, "Something went wrong there, monsters have burst out and are now heading this way—run!"

Lu Yuan and King Qi's faces changed, and they suddenly understood—

What was bound to come has come; they cannot escape fate's pursuit, that terrifying space world has indeed caught up, the wheel of fate rolls relentlessly upon them again.

Lu Yuan and King Qi stared in shock toward the direction the old man indicated, only to see a huge space rift appear in the sky, widening as more monsters crawled out.

Those monsters were towering; some were bear-like giants, others were bizarre serpentine creatures. Their bodies reeked of decay, making them especially horrifying.

The leading bear-shaped monster let out a long howl, and the other monsters roared as they lunged at Lu Yuan and King Qi.

Lu Yuan hastily gathered all his mana, standing back-to-back with King Qi. "It seems they're coming for us; we must join forces!"

King Qi nodded, formed hand seals, and began chanting a spell.

A faint white light slowly rose around him; wherever it reached, the monsters howled in pain and retreated.

"I'm using a protective spell to hold them off—quickly use an attack spell!" King Qi shouted.

"Okay!" Lu Yuan clapped his palms together, hearing a booming "Boom!" as over a dozen bursts of energy shot like cannonballs at the monster horde.

The monsters hit wailed as they fell, their bodies twisting and convulsing. The air filled with a burnt smell.

"We've successfully repelled them!" Lu Yuan cheered.

But just then, the ground suddenly shook; the monsters that had fallen rose again, unscathed.

"What's going on? Could our spells be useless against them?" Lu Yuan exclaimed.

"They seem to have rapid regenerative abilities; we need another plan!" King Qi frowned.

As they were still discussing, the bear-shaped monster suddenly opened its bloody maw, launching a black energy ball at them.

King Qi hastily summoned a light shield, but the black energy ball exploded instantly, shattering the shield.

The blast wave flung them both away, and they hit the ground hard.

"This isn't good," Lu Yuan coughed, struggling to stand.

King Qi also climbed up, and the two went back-to-back into a fighting stance again.

The bear-shaped monster appeared to be the leader, ordering the other monsters to surround and attack.

This time the monsters split into two groups: one fired poisonous needles, the other spewed flames with closed mouths.

Lu Yuan and King Qi's magical implements clashed against each other!

Lu Yuan and King Qi both dodged the monsters' flames and temporarily retreated to the side.

"These monsters are too powerful; our mana has no effect on them." Lu Yuan said, panting.

King Qi frowned in thought, then his eyes lit up: "Right, we can go find the cultivator who created this world and ask him to help permanently close the space rift—perhaps that will solve the problem!"

"That's feasible!" Lu Yuan agreed, "The problem is, how do we find that cultivator?"

"I recall the old man saying that the cultivator created this world for some reason to seal a demon; perhaps we can investigate following that clue," King Qi analyzed.

Lu Yuan nodded, and the two immediately set out, inquiring everywhere for information about the cultivator who created this world.

After much searching, they finally found the key in an ancient legend—there was an unnamed cultivator who, centuries ago, battled a demon for three days and three nights before disappearing; legend says the demon was sealed by the cultivator using some secret method.

"Looks like we've found the right person." Lu Yuan's eyes lit up.

"Yeah, that great cultivator might truly have the ability to permanently close the space rift." King Qi said.

"The problem is, how do we find him? It's been hundreds of years." Lu Yuan frowned.

"This." King Qi also fell into a dilemma.

As they were racking their brains, they suddenly saw a row of strange symbols carved into a nearby cliff.

"This is—" Lu Yuan glanced and immediately realized, "This is the magic array mark left by that cultivator! We've found him!"

The two excitedly approached the array, but soon grew disappointed—the array was severely damaged, its magic nearly gone; activating it would be nearly impossible.

"What do we do? If we can't activate the array, we can't enter the cultivator's space." Lu Yuan said anxiously.

King Qi pondered, then said: "Perhaps we can try pouring our own mana into the array to barely awaken its power."

"Okay! Let's try!"

They stepped back a few paces, gathered all their mana, pressed their palms together, and gently pushed toward the array. A dazzling light flashed across it, it trembled slightly, then quickly faded.

"What's going on? It seems our mana isn't enough to awaken it." Lu Yuan sighed.

"This is really troublesome."

As they were in despair, a strange voice suddenly came from behind: "What are you doing?"

The two turned in surprise, seeing a white-clad youth standing not far away, staring at them.

"Who are you?" King Qi asked warily.

"My name is Bai Lang; I happened to pass by and saw you studying this ancient formation, and I was quite curious." The youth smiled and said.

"We're trying to figure out how to activate this formation; if you have no intention to help, please leave." Lu Yuan frowned and said.

"I see, it seems this formation is important to you." Bai Lang nodded, "In that case, I am willing to do whatever I can to help you." (End of chapter)
