Chapter 140: Professional Ghost Exorcist Dr. Tang
Qin Menglan's expression changed slightly, yet she still launched her Dragon Fist attack.
She was certain the sound came from Tang Luo.
There are three possibilities: one, Tang Luo is an impostor—this person is not Tang Luo but someone or something pretending to be him.
Two, he is Tang Luo but is being controlled by something.
Three, he is Tang Luo but for some reason uttered the sound "It hurts so much."
Regardless of which case it is, it does not hinder Qin Menglan from taking action.
The first case needs no elaboration—just act; the second case requires immediate action, as whatever is controlling Tang Luo, if not dealt with now, may never offer another chance.
As for the third case, Tang Luo's true self, Qin Menglan does not believe her Dragon Fist attack could threaten him; merely scratching his skin would be fortunate.
It turns out being a brute is this enjoyable.
Facing the dragon-form energy attack, Tang Luo emerged from the shadows, raising his left hand to block in front of him.
The dragon-form energy struck, shockwaves scattered, and the "It hurts so much" sound cut off abruptly.
"Effective?" Qin Menglan thought silently.
"You're hitting a teammate," Tang Luo said, walking over.
"Let's test with a move first," Qin Menglan said, eyeing the object in Tang Luo's right hand, frowning.
Tang Luo held a severed head in his hand.
A head utterly disfigured, as if pummeled hundreds of times by fists, then scraped with feet and rolled dozens of kilometers off-road.
The faint "It hurts so much" sound came from the head's mouth, still weakly opening and closing.
Because Tang Luo held the head, and it was shielded by a screen, in the dim, near-dark environment, it initially sounded as if the sound came from Tang Luo himself.
"What is this?" Qin Menglan stared at the head in Tang Luo's hand, feeling vaguely familiar.
"The missing Mao Haixiang," Tang Luo said. "The Celestial Hound found her in the kitchen."
"Only a head left?" Qin Menglan felt a chill.
"Yes," Tang Luo said. "Consider it a ghost—like a Falling Head or Flying Head Barbarian."
"Where in the kitchen was it found?" Qin Menglan pressed.
"In the pressure cooker," Tang Luo said. "The Celestial Hound startled it, so it kept wailing."
So the sudden "It hurts so much" sound earlier came from this.
And even if everyone searched for someone, they wouldn't think to open the covered pressure cooker left in the kitchen cabinet to check inside.
Fortunately, before Qin Menglan and her group arrived, no one was curious or meticulous enough to do so.
Otherwise, the startled "Mao Haixiang's head" might have caused a "ghost murder" tragedy.
"Is she naturally like this? Or did I just do this?" Qin Menglan asked, recalling her Dragon Fist strike had hit Mao Haixiang's head.
"No, I found it too noisy, so I hit it a few times," Tang Luo said.
It matched—when Qin Menglan was dismantling a chair, Tang Luo happened to be beating this Falling Head, making the sound louder—not pain, precisely, but the ghost's external "startle response."
Later it weakened because Tang Luo had beaten it nearly to death, "on its last breath."
"A family of three—are they all ghosts?" Qin Menglan asked.
"Here there is only Mao Haixiang's head; as for whether it's a ghost… I think, even if it wasn't before, it certainly is now," Tang Luo said.
"Did you knock out her teeth too?" Qin Menglan asked, her courage undiminished as she closely examined Mao Haixiang's head.
She found the head's mouth contained no teeth, with black blood swirling inside.
"No," Tang Luo said. "When I found it, it already had no teeth."
"Could someone have pulled her teeth out, killed her, and ended up with this 'one-head ghost'?" Qin Menglan speculated.
"Possible," Tang Luo said. "Too bad we can't communicate—let's liberate it first."
"If you think no more clues can be gained from her," Qin Menglan said.
"Amitabha."
Tang Luo intoned a Buddhist phrase, clenched his right hand, and the ghost head turned into a wisp of black smoke, vanishing.
The overhead light flickered twice, then suddenly brightened.
"Actually I don't understand—why do ghosts and such like to turn off the lights?" Qin Menglan asked.
"Some are weak, needing darkness as their weapon, a kind of 'innate ability,'" Tang Luo said. "Others are strong—no need to say 'turn off the lights'; they can turn an area into their domain—ghostly realms are possible."
"Have you seen such?" Qin Menglan asked.
"Of course, subduing demons and eliminating evil is my forte; why it's a forte is because it was forced upon me," Tang Luo said with a sigh.
That was his lost youth.
"Let's go out—I'm worried something might happen, so I've already had people seal this place," Qin Menglan said.
They reopened the door and walked out.
The streetlights outside were on.
Though only a few minutes had passed, the efficiency of science was remarkable—the police line had already been set up.
Someone stood guard; outside were scattered, a dozen or so curious villagers.
At the doorway, A Tuo and the cameraman were present, A Tuo still holding a cloth doll.
Seeing the two emerge, A Tuo exhaled in relief, though knowing Master Xuanzang's prowess was extraordinary, he still worried—carriages overturning in gutters happens often.
"How did it go?" The two approached and asked softly.
"Found one, turned into a ghost, liberated by Xuanzang—three remain," Qin Menglan said.
"Huh—" A Tuo exhaled.
"Hey! Hey! What exactly happened! Is it a haunting? Speak up!" a villager shouted.
Master Wang stood at the barbershop door, also looking curious: "I said it, getting close to science is just fooling us."
"We have the right to know!"
"Yes, we need to know the truth!"
The villagers shouted out.
"What should we do?" the cameraman asked, as the villagers caused a commotion, turning into a mass incident, which is also a troublesome matter.
"Better to settle it early, do a show, if we can brush it off, we brush it off; if not, we forget it." Qin Menglan said, looking at the Heavenly Hound while speaking.
I never expected a group of people, in the end, would have to rely on a cute little cat to resolve the incident.
Hmm, this is expertise having its specialization, not that these gods and demons walking are too weak.
The dog is responsible for finding people, Tang Luo is responsible for conversion, others are responsible for calming the crowd, aftermath, and shouting 666.
Perfect coordination.
"I'll handle things here first." Tang Luo said, hearing A Tuo and Qin Menglan both startled.
Handle? Wait, how are you going to handle things here?
The villagers outside are restless, and their numbers are increasing—know that now is the time for evening strolls after dinner.
Several township officials are trying to persuade, but they simply cannot persuade.
A group of already retired old men and women, plus even older elders, are basically fearless, so only the village heads speaking might have some effect.
Spit droplets can even spray onto others' faces.
How is Tang Luo going to handle things?
A Tuo and Qin Menglan clearly know, this guy only knows how to consecrate and convert!
Could it be that he wants to convert all the villagers here? That's courting death. Gods and demons walking causing trouble, yet they will disappear.
"Ahem, everyone, please listen to me!"
Before Qin Menglan and the others could think of how Tang Luo would handle things, he walked out and spoke loudly.
Immediately, the surrounding noisy chatter of seven voices and eight tongues was suppressed.
Everyone turned to look at Tang Luo.
After a while, someone asked: "Young man, what do you want to say?"
Tang Luo pushed up his glasses and said: "First, let me introduce myself—I am Dr. Tang, coming with the project team and the program team, just to solve the missing persons case at Zhang's Dental Clinic."
"Doctor?"
"Can't tell, so young."
"You see his hair is all white, definitely from studying, must be a doctor."
"What doctor? A detective doctor? Are there criminal investigation doctors?"
Everyone discussed loudly, some arguing, but overall not as noisy as before.
"Professional in exorcism, consecration and conversion doctor." Tang Luo slightly raised his head, speaking with a confident face.
"Pa!" A Tuo turned his head, just seeing Qin Menglan covering her forehead, that crisp sound earlier was a slap on the forehead.
"What, exorcism?"
"Consecration and conversion? You think you're the X Faith?" The villagers expressed disbelief.
Tang Luo remained unmoved: "As for you wanting to know what happened, someone guessed correctly—this place is indeed haunted. Otherwise, I, this doctor, wouldn't have come."
"..."
"..."
The villagers became even more disbelieving, nerves, this is!
It's quite interesting—clearly it started with a group of people in unison asking if it's haunted.
Now Tang Luo clearly tells them it's haunted, yet they don't believe it instead.
"Don't disbelieve—at least there are two ghosts wandering nearby." Tang Luo said, "So for everyone's safety, now all line up for me—I, Dr. Tang, will consecrate you, guaranteeing your safety."
"..."
"... This works too!" Qin Menglan suddenly lifted her head, ignoring decorum, staring wide-eyed.
Tang Luo, you're so obsessed with consecration! For practicing skills, you don't need to go this far!
A Tuo then understood, finally grasping the gap between Master Xuanzang and us mortals—can't learn, can't learn.
"Tsk, nuts!"
"What the hell, saying this nonsense to fool who!"
The villagers refused, haunting, go fool the ghosts!
"Every word I say is true." Tang Luo said, "Hurry up and line up, I'll consecrate you right now."
Don't say the villagers, even the officials are stunned, the project team's experts—do they all play like this?
"Left, left, boring."
"Haunting my ass, I think it's murder, setting up a blockade."
"Normal, before the case is solved, definitely won't be publicized."
"By the way, which idiot said there are ghosts, spooky nonsense, making me almost believe it."
"But... aren't many people heard that 'ouch' sound?"
"Isn't that Doctor Zhang's 'magic treasure'? If it hurts, press twice—you see, that person is holding it, probably broken."
Although not yet dispersed, after Tang Luo's commotion, the earlier restlessness completely vanished.
At least normal onlooker state has been restored.
"I'm telling the truth, bad luck really leads to death—come over for consecration." Tang Luo took a firm step, grabbed a villager, and began pitching.
