Chapter 371
"Mission worlds exist for our enjoyment. You lot are still too young." Poseidon looked younger than Thor, yet spoke with the world-weariness of an elder.
"Boring. Mission worlds are for getting stronger," Thor retorted.
"Fine." Poseidon didn't argue; instead he smiled and said, "Then you get stronger, I enjoy — this mission's yours?"
"Scram." Thor said rudely, then looked at the four at the dining table and said, "Two of you, come with me."
Two men from that squad stood up and followed Thor.
The three left the villa.
The other man who had come down with Thor sat silently to one side and closed his eyes.
"Uh, we'll go upstairs and search online." After a while, a man and a woman at the dining table stood up and said.
"Go on, go on." Poseidon looked quite agreeable.
The two reached the villa's second floor, and before entering the study they couldn't resist glancing into the second-floor bedroom.
Inside the bedroom lay two corpses, one male, one female.
They were the villa's original owners, lying naked on the floor with not a single wound on their bodies — well, those bruises and the unspeakable mess on the woman don't count.
Yet both were already dead.
Bodies cold, faces twisted, terror pushed to the extreme, scared to death outright, as if they had seen something horrifying before they died.
The two Divine Walkers exchanged a glance, exhaled lightly, shut the bedroom door, and went to the study to turn on the computer.
Facing fellow travelers like this, they couldn't say whether it was good or bad.
The upside was obvious: powerful fellow travelers were undoubtedly a huge help in completing the mission.
But powerful fellow travelers also had a high chance of becoming death warrants.
Without a doubt, Poseidon, Thor, and Deimos — these three powerhouses of the Gods' Alliance — could at any moment turn into this four-person squad's death warrants.
In mission worlds, Divine Walkers can act without scruple.
"Entering a mission world isn't for enjoyment, it's to get stronger, but there's no need to be as cautious as in the real world. We are gods; we can act according to our own desires."
On a bustling, crowded pedestrian plaza, Thor said to the two Divine Walkers.
One was named Jonathan, the other Sydney; both had survived six missions, absolute veterans.
Too bad, before a powerhouse of Thor's caliber, they could only serve as lackeys.
Though they didn't understand why Thor thought this way, both nodded very seriously in agreement.
They had heard of the Thunder God Thor's great name — a powerful, magnanimous man.
Many Divine Walkers had been rewarded by him; of course, many had also died by his hand.
Cater to Thor's tastes, suck up to the end, and you'll have everything.
Jonathan and Sydney were working hard at exactly this.
Among the three, Thor should be the easiest to get along with; that elegant Sea God Poseidon and the silent Deimos were the dangerous ones.
"Many mission worlds allow indulgence," easygoing Thor said.
"Yes, Lord Thor is ri—" Sydney hadn't finished when he saw Thor raise a hand and smash a fist into the statue beside him.
Cracks spiderwebbed across the statue's base; it crashed down with a thunderous boom that reverberated across the plaza.
Two passing pedestrians were unluckily crushed by the statue; they couldn't even scream before dying on the spot.
Thor laughed, revealing white teeth, stepped over to the fallen statue, reached out, grabbed, and hooked his fingers.
Five fingers easily pierced the statue — which had zero corner-cutting — as effortlessly as digging into tofu.
"Heh." Thor chuckled and flung his right hand.
The statue whistled through the air, slammed into the neighboring building, and another huge crash rang out.
Sydney and Jonathan stared dumbstruck, listening to the piercing screams all around.
"Come! Come…" Thor shouted an address — precisely the villa they were staying at — "Come fight to your heart's content!"
The two instantly understood: Thor was challenging the Divine Walkers of the opposing camp to battle.
He wasn't speaking any language of this mission world, but the language of the real world.
Having done that, Thor cheerfully turned and walked away.
Sydney and Jonathan followed; the scene was so chaotic that no one even noticed the three leaving.
"Uh… Lord Thor, aren't we supposed to investigate mission-related matters?" After a while, Jonathan, hurrying back toward the villa, asked.
"Oh, it's for the mission." Thor said.
Before Jonathan could ask further, he continued: "What 'bizarre events' refer to — we have a rough idea. This mission world's situation is clearly very similar to the real world; supernatural power is hidden. What I need to do is lure the snake out of its hole."
Not just lure out the other camp's Divine Walkers, but also lure out "supernatural existences."
Bizarre events are naturally supernatural too; mutual attraction between like kinds is a perfectly normal phenomenon.
In short, Jonathan and Sydney immediately grasped Thor's intent.
Inwardly they couldn't help but marvel: a powerhouse's mindset really is different from theirs.
Every mission they'd ever done involved cautious probing, staying in the shadows, only surfacing at the end to complete the task.
They'd never imagined a method so direct as putting themselves center-stage to draw the "target" in voluntarily.
Aren't they afraid of playing with fire and burning themselves?
Even a Fourth Order powerhouse can't treat a mission as nothing.
Whatever the case, forget strength — just Thor's confidence is something they could never learn.
As time passes and their strength keeps rising, things might change in the future.
"Get it?" Thor wore the air of a mentor teaching by example.
Sydney and Jonathan both nodded.
The instant they nodded, a vicious wind struck their faces; Jonathan, who had just asked the question, felt his neck tighten, then a sharp pain.
His whole body was lifted up by Thor, feet dangling in midair.
Jonathan instinctively reached out, grabbing Thor's wrist and exerting force, trying to force him to let go.
But it didn't feel like he had grabbed a person's wrist; rather, it felt like he had grabbed a piece of diamond — utterly immovable!
"Good that you understand." Thor said with a smile, "This time I'm giving you a free lesson. Next time you question my decision, you'll die. Understand?"
Jonathan forced out the words: "Understand."
Sydney nodded vigorously like pounding garlic; his strength was still inferior to Jonathan's, and as the "monkey" in "killing the chicken to warn the monkey," the emotions in his heart were even more intense than Jonathan's.
"Very good." Thor released his grip, "Don't blame me for doing this either. You should know, many people are unable to recognize their own position. You two aren't like that, right?"
The two shook their heads repeatedly.
Thor nodded inwardly; these two were as good as secured.
This action of his was naturally to ensure the "harmony" of his own camp. Of course, this approach also had a great deal to do with his own personality.
Walking onto the street, the surrounding pedestrians were either surprised or hurrying along.
Obviously the commotion Thor had just caused had already spread.
After a while, Thor stopped his steps, let out a cold laugh, and said: "Come out, I can sense you."
Jonathan and Sydney's expressions instantly turned grave — an enemy?
Before long, a man walked out from a corner not far in front of the three.
Of course there were more than just him walking here, but the gazes of Thor's trio instantly locked onto this man.
"Thor, God of Thunder..." Li Jue looked at Thor, his face calm, but his heart was quite complicated.
He knew Thor, and had dealings with him before.
But that experience wasn't pleasant; he lost to Thor in battle, and if not for the Dragon King's rescue, he would likely have been killed.
Although two years had passed, and everyone's strength had changed.
Yet facing Thor directly in this instant, Li Jue still recalled his original defeat, and his heart's courage weakened slightly.
"Came out voluntarily to seek death? Not bad." Thor revealed a grim smile, intending to attack right there in such a setting regardless.
"Wait!" Li Jue spoke up immediately, "I've come to seek cooperation."
"First let's see if you have the qualifications!" Thor said, his body vanishing without a trace.
A gust of violent wind swept in; Li Jue crossed his arms before him.
Thor's fist landed on his arms, emitting a loud boom; power spread out, instantly shattering the glass of surrounding shops.
A large number of alarm sounds rang out.
Li Jue retreated five steps, each step leaving a web-like spreading crack on the ground.
"Not bad." Thor stood in place, not pursuing.
"Don't you recognize me anymore?" Li Jue shook his slightly numb arm; he hadn't defended with full force, and the other party hadn't struck with full force either.
With neither side going all out, it was he who lost — once again.
"Who are you?" Thor's eyes narrowed.
The surroundings were noisy; the two had exchanged blows in just an instant, and the passersby simply didn't know that these two conversing men were the culprits behind the sudden shattering of the glass.
"We've crossed hands before." Li Jue said.
"I never remember defeated opponents." Thor said.
Li Jue nearly coughed up a mouthful of blood; those words were too piercing.
Who knew if this guy truly didn't remember, or deliberately said it to strike at him.
When Thor was causing trouble, Li Jue happened to be nearby; after notifying the others, he followed secretly.
He didn't expect to be discovered by the other party; because he wanted to cooperate with these people to kill Tang Luo together, he needed to show more sincerity, so he simply stepped out.
"Then do you know Tang Xuanzang?" Li Jue straightforwardly threw out his purpose.
Thor was a registered figure in the Martial World Mythology; Li Jue understood his personality — beating around the bush with him was meaningless.
Direct was best.
"Oh?" Thor thought for a moment, then said with a smile, "Not bad, I know this person. Heard he's a ruthless character. What, you want to cooperate with us to kill him?"
"..." Li Jue felt extremely stifled.
He was a veteran of many years in the Martial World Mythology, an absolutely core mainstay.
Yet he couldn't even compare to a newcomer who hadn't even been in for a year; Thor's evaluation proved that within the Gods Alliance, the attention paid to Tang Luo surpassed that paid to him, Li Jue.
The enemy's level of attention is undoubtedly the most real.
And this reality made Li Jue very displeased.
"Not me, it's us." Wen Hanfei arrived at some unknown time, waving a hand.
Thor turned, reached out and grabbed, catching a small glass ball; a cluster of gray qi could be seen swirling inside.
"If you intend to cooperate against him, crush it." Saying this, Wen Hanfei's figure flashed, directly vanishing.
Thor turned back; the Li Jue in front had already left as well.
"Oh, a bit interesting." Thor let out a laugh.
A toad eyeing a mung bean — they've met their match.
