Chapter 572: A City Built on a Demon Graveyard

~10 min read 1,930 words

"Can you tell me where the World-Destroyer is?" Tang Luo walked up to Xila and asked.

Xila clutched her head with both hands, nearly tearing out her own hair, and did not answer Tang Luo's question.

"Wake up?" Tang Luo kicked her with his foot; Xila rolled and crashed into Simon, the two tangling together in a heap.

Simon struggled a couple of times; his eyes had already turned into two hollow sockets, his breath growing faint — death was not far off.

To tell the truth, as a bloodline descendant of the World-Destroyer, the likelihood of him giving up intelligence on the World-Destroyer was not very high.

But since things had come to this anyway, might as well give it a try.

Tang Luo seized Simon and performed Soul Ferry.

A moment later he released his hand; Simon's corpse fell, stiff as a deadwood log that had been weathered by wind and rain for countless years.

A mere breath of wind stirred by Tang Luo's movement caused Simon's corpse to crumble into a pool of gray-white dust.

After the Soul Ferry, before Tang Luo could even perform the Return to Buddha Dharma to make Simon lay down the butcher's knife and convert to the Buddha, his soul dispersed on its own.

Xila's injuries were lighter; she should be able to hold on a bit longer.

Before long, Tang Luo tossed Xila's corpse down; her body dissolved into a pool of black-red bloodwater, seeping into the ground beneath his feet.

The originally fairly lush green grass all around withered and died, turning yellow.

Even in death, Xila's killing power had not completely dissipated for a time; only now did it finally vanish.

The result of the Soul Ferry was much the same as Simon's.

"You..."

Tang Luo looked at the last one, Larry.

"Exorcist, you will pay the price." Larry bared a savage grin at Tang Luo, his body suddenly twisting and contracting into a ball of flesh and blood.

Right then, he was dead as dead could be.

Just as Tang Luo had guessed, as bloodline descendants their loyalty to the World-Destroyer could be called absolute — they would not leak any information related to the World-Destroyer.

Perhaps that Abel might be a bit special.

Tang Luo speculated that the World-Destroyer surely had some special method to control these bloodline descendants.

That Abel might have found a loophole — my life is up to me, not heaven — and so turned traitor, becoming a double agent.

Pitting all three "brothers and sisters" to their deaths.

Since he had already pitted the god-descendants to death, then killing the World-Destroyer next might not be impossible either.

First find that Abel, then inquire about intelligence on the World-Destroyer.

At the same moment Larry died, on the other battlefield, sudden cries of alarm rang out.

Tang Luo looked that way, leapt up, stepped on the void — faint illusory lotuses forming and vanishing beneath his feet.

The battle between the three god-descendants and Tang Luo had lasted only a few minutes total; most of that was the initial talking and then Tang Luo's Soul Ferry time.

The time actually spent on combat was pitifully little.

In the deep pit, the battlefield of exorcists and demons naturally was far from over as well.

With five Generals leading the teams, plus the blessing of Tang Luo's boundless Buddhist Dharma, the exorcists naturally would not lose to the demons.

Even with numerous High-Rank Demons, the situation would not change.

Victory in this battle inevitably belonged to the exorcists; there was no doubt about this.

However, these cries of alarm meant things seemed not to be so.

Tang Luo recalled the World-Destroyer data he had read.

The data said the World-Destroyer appeared in different guises, respectively displaying three abilities: mental shock, space distortion, and vacuum defense.

Thinking carefully, among the five god-descendants, God-Descendant · Desire's ability was controlling others and herself; Simon's ability was Loss.

And Larry's ability was Distortion!

Its manifestation was extremely similar to the "space distortion" ability the World-Destroyer had displayed, as recorded by the Holy Order.

Could it be that the World-Destroyer passed his own abilities down to the god-descendants?

Then the remaining Abel — his ability must be vacuum defense?

Or mental shock?

And Larry's words before death were meaningful; he was the least injured of the three god-descendants — such injuries would not kill him.

Yet he chose death, or rather, paid with his life to unleash something?

Larry's ability is distortion; the World-Destroyer's displayed mental shock can make exorcists fall.

If the two are combined for analysis, the conclusion can be drawn: the Holy Order's past intelligence may have some errors — that is not a mental shock ability, but another application of the distortion ability.

Mental distortion.

The exorcists' minds are distorted, and they fall.

Larry paid with his life to distort the minds of the exorcists on the other battlefield.

"What would the Fallen look like?"

Tang Luo soon saw what the fallen exorcists looked like.

In the great pit, more than a dozen twisted aberrations appeared; their overall appearance greatly resembled low-rank demons, but their size was several times larger.

No tentacles; they had enormous hands and feet, twisted faces growing on walnut-like torsos.

The sacred weapons in their hands also became enormous, dancing wildly in a frenzy.

Whether exorcists or demons, all were within the attack range of these fallen exorcists.

Indiscriminate madness — except they would not harm their own kind, fellow fallen exorcists, everything else around them was a target of the fallen exorcists' attacks.

No, they could no longer be called exorcists.

They could only count as fallen monsters.

"So this is what exorcists falling looks like?" Tang Luo, having arrived, asked.

Regarding the matter of falling, he didn't pay much attention to it, and it was still the first time he had seen what a fallen exorcist looked like.

Celia nodded, he and a group of support and long-range exorcists did not directly join the battlefield.

A group of people looked at the fallen monsters in the pit, their faces grim.

These dozen or so fallen monsters, even with five generals working together (Celia controlling the phantom warriors), could not suppress them.

Their strength was so great it was astonishing.

Now the situation had become a three-way melee, extremely chaotic, and the demons, whose forms were relatively large and conspicuous, were currently the main target of the fallen monsters' attacks.

The aftershocks of the attacks were also enough to let the exorcists have a good drink.

If the demons died a few more, the fallen monsters would focus their attention on the exorcists, and the situation would become even more serious.

Joining forces with the demons to first deal with the fallen monsters was impossible.

Even if they were high-ranking demons with considerable intelligence, when fighting they were extremely ferocious, and killing exorcists was their highest priority.

The two sides fundamentally had no possibility of joining forces.

Moreover, to a certain extent, the demons even ignored the fallen monsters, wholeheartedly attacking the exorcists.

In the chaotic scene, a vague situation formed where exorcists temporarily avoided the brunt, demons pursued and slaughtered, and the fallen monsters went on a frenzied killing spree.

"Is there any solution?" Tang Luo asked, his clothes having already returned to the exorcist uniform.

"There is no way to recover after falling." Celia said, "Only retreat; fallen exorcists are actually no longer resonators, and once their holy weapons are damaged, they will stop dying."

Not asking him about the fate of those three god-born was unnecessary.

Just by seeing Tang Luo's calm and composed demeanor, one could know the outcome.

Celia and the others had full confidence in Tang Luo; let alone god-born, they felt Tang Luo should be able to go head-to-head with powerful world-destroyers.

Tang Luo's fingers hanging at his side twitched slightly, using the Merit Jade Lotus to illuminate.

Yet it had no effect whatsoever on those fallen things, and could not restore them to their original state.

"Let's suppress them first."

Tang Luo said, raising his hand and bringing it down.

He performed the Nirvana Glazed Great Hand Seal, a massive palm instantly forming and descending from the sky.

With a tremendous roar, over a dozen huge fallen monsters were pressed down by Tang Luo, sinking into the ground and unable to move.

Only the holy weapons in their hands released resisting force, but soon they all shattered under Tang Luo's overwhelming suppression.

Along with the shattering of the holy weapons, the monsters' bodies also shattered.

From suppression to death, it took only a single breath.

The holy hearts, emitting a faint light, fell from the fragments to the ground, being stepped on by exorcists and demons alike.

The battle, however, had not ended!

"Exorcist—"

The demon's wail was cut off, Holt's sword severed the last demon into two, turning this medium demon into gray-black powder.

He turned his head, looking toward the side, whether sitting or standing, or lying down, the exorcists.

Slowly raising the great sword in his hand high, he thrust it toward the heavens: "Victory!"

"Victory!"

Scattered and sparse, not particularly enthusiastic shouting, this was the exorcists' response.

Unlike the attacks encountered along the way, where Tang Luo had always assisted, the exorcists naturally stood in an invincible position.

But this time, Tang Luo merely gave them a blessing of boundless Buddhist law at the beginning.

No further illumination and healing, nor another "power boost" blessing midway.

The exorcists were already exhausted.

The holy hearts on the ground were not just a dozen or so.

Around many holy hearts were fragments of shattered holy weapons, debris and powder.

The resonators of these holy hearts had all died in battle, and the holy hearts had become ownerless objects.

"Move aside, you're blocking me from picking things up."

Dupont patted Holt's back, signaling him to move, picked up the holy heart Holt had guessed at, and trotted over to give it to Tang Luo.

Tang Luo collected all the holy hearts, clasped his hands together in front of him, and began illuminating to heal wounds.

Golden light points emerged from the void, falling into the bodies of the fallen exorcists.

Soon, those deceased exorcists reopened their eyes.

With smiles of having survived a catastrophe, they lay on the ground gazing at the sky.

Resurrected!

Everyone once again witnessed Tang Luo's miracle.

"If you're fine, don't lie there, all go out, I want to move the city back." Tang Luo said.

A group of exorcists stared for a moment, showing expressions of not knowing what to do.

Alright, a city, if you want to move it, you move it, you're strong, you decide.

The exorcists supported each other as they left the pit, Tang Luo reached out, enveloping the entire city placed beside him, and lifted it up.

With some sounds and rising dust, the city returned to its place.

The dead demons, gray-black powder, were buried deep underground.

This originally ordinary city had become a city built upon a demon graveyard.

However, even after moving it back, some losses were unavoidable, but compared to having survived a catastrophe, everything else was just trivial.

At least no foolish person jumped out to blame the exorcists for dragging them down.

Saying things like why they didn't come earlier.

Of course, there was another important reason everyone was so reasonable: Tang Luo — he could treat the entire city as a toy and knead it "in the palm of his hand."

Everyone still wanted to live.
