Chapter 805: Battle-Heart Undying, Primordial Spirit Indestructible
Silently, Sun Wukong and Jin Chanzi, having been "thrown" into the furnace, seemed to have no room to resist whatsoever — at least, there were no signs of resistance for now.
Back then, Sun Wukong wreaked havoc in the Heavenly Palace, and had the experience of being thrown into the Eight Trigrams Furnace.
But at that time, the Eight Trigrams Furnace was not controlled by Taishang.
Taishang had already disappeared for many years; by the time an old-school celestial like Zhu Bajie entered the Heavenly Court, Taishang was already gone.
His whereabouts were truly unknown to anyone.
At that time, the Eight Trigrams Furnace was controlled by the two Daoist boys, Jinjiao and Yinjiao; as a result, Sun Wukong found an opportunity to break out, and even damaged the Eight Trigrams Furnace, rendering it unusable, turning it into a mere ornament.
Now, the Heaven-and-Earth Furnace bears the shadow of the Eight Trigrams Furnace.
Its power is worlds apart from when the two Daoist boys Jinjiao and Yinjiao used it; just one look, and one can feel the aura and power inside the furnace that burns everything to ashes.
Zhu Bajie couldn't help but glance at Tang Luo.
How would the Great Heavenly Demon deal with the Buddha's Heaven-and-Earth Furnace?
With his Boundless Merit healing divine ability?
That should be able to preserve Sun Wukong and Jin Chanzi's lives.
As it turned out, Tang Luo merely watched, not the slightest intention of making a move.
While refining Jin Chanzi and Sun Wukong, the Buddha looked at Tang Luo: "You're giving up just like that?"
"Heh, shouldn't you wait until you've succeeded before saying that?" Tang Luo laughed.
The Buddha's expression suddenly changed slightly.
His hands trembled lightly, involuntarily spreading apart; the Heaven-and-Earth Furnace formed in midair shattered with a boom.
Sun Wukong appeared, his semi-transparent flaming Golden-Hooped Rod smashing toward the Buddha's head.
The Buddha's body flashed, dodging Sun Wukong's Golden-Hooped Rod.
He did not make direct contact with it; it wasn't that he feared this staff strike from Sun Wukong, but rather he feared the Glazed Flame on the Golden-Hooped Rod.
One strike missed; Sun Wukong looked at the Buddha, grinned fiercely, vanished from his spot, appeared at his side, and swept out another horizontal strike.
The Buddha dodged again.
The fiercely burning Glazed Flame — even he dared not make light contact with it.
"You two..."
A heavenly voice rang out; a trace of emotional fluctuation appeared in the Buddha's tone.
The Heaven-and-Earth Furnace shattered, Sun Wukong appeared, his aura soaring to the heavens. And Jin Chanzi floated behind Sun Wukong in an extremely bizarre manner.
His whole person presented a semi-transparent, illusory state, as if a gust of wind could disperse him.
He looked like a guardian spirit behind Sun Wukong.
Making every one of Sun Wukong's staff strikes carry not only his own violent power, but also Jin Chanzi's "Empty Void."
Far beyond what ordinary people can withstand.
Glancing down at the semi-transparent flaming Golden-Hooped Rod in his hand, Sun Wukong roared, and swung a staff strike at the Buddha.
The semi-transparent Glazed Flames spread, sweeping across the entire space.
Jin Chanzi pressed his palms together behind Sun Wukong.
The sky-full of flames vanished in an instant, everything turned to emptiness; yet precisely within this "empty void," there lurked a power even more terrifying than the visible flames.
Facing the two's joint attack, the Buddha formed a hand seal; golden light blazed, a flesh-topknot grew on his crown, and his appearance greatly changed.
His whole person turned into a golden Buddha aspect.
Peaceful like a mirror-bottom, two feet with thousand-spoked wheels, three fingers and toes long surpassing others, four hands and feet soft surpassing the rest of the body... ten hidden marks like the Horse King... thirty-two topknots complete.
The Buddha is solemn, the Thirty-Two Marks!
Sun Wukong and Jin Chanzi's destructive attack fell upon the Golden Body Thirty-Two Marks.
Like rain on plantain leaves, ripples upon ripples; semi-transparent flames burned atop the golden body.
The Glazed Flame, having passed through Sun Wukong and Jin Chanzi's hands, its augmented power still belonged to Jin Chanzi and Sun Wukong, and did not extend onto the Buddha.
Yet it retained the Glazed Flame's characteristic of igniting on contact, difficult to extinguish.
The golden Buddha dharma-aspect burned.
The Buddha seemed completely unaware, maintaining the "Buddha statue" posture, utterly motionless.
Sun Wukong gripped the Golden-Hooped Rod, and brought a staff strike smashing down, landing on the Buddha's crown.
A muffled sound seemed to appear and disappear.
The Buddha opened his eyes, the hand seal in his hand changing.
Around him appeared a vast number of Buddha statues, some with wrathful glaring eyes, some with kind brows and benevolent eyes, thousands upon thousands!
The instant these Buddha statues appeared, Sun Wukong's face turned ferocious once more, every monkey hair on his body standing on end.
A heavy, immense, all-pervading, omnipresent power spread out, suppressing him, forcing him to kneel, to submit, to lose heart, to die.
Maitreya Pure Land!
The Buddha's space, the domain of Ten Thousand Buddhas.
Clearly it was void, yet Sun Wukong half-kneeled on the ground, the Golden-Hooped Rod supporting his body so he did not fully kneel; the spot at his knees was a region of twisted chaos.
The demonic qi and fierce flames belonging to a yaomo erupted on his body, his mouth opening, roaring as he revealed a pair of sharp canine teeth.
"Sigh, still have to rely on you."
Jin Chanzi, like a guardian spirit, opened his eyes, sounding as if he were sighing.
But judging by his expression, it was full of fanaticism, even carrying a smile.
As a mad monk who upholds the "All Four Are Empty" philosophy of universal emptiness, Jin Chanzi has never cared about matters of life and death.
Be it others', or his own.
The Great Vow is for realization, yet not realized for the sake of becoming a Buddha.
To hear the Dao in the morning, one can die content in the evening.
Golden Cicada Child still wants to be more radical; with hope, prematurely becoming empty is of no consequence.
A semi-transparent glass flame erupted from within Golden Cicada Child, instantly burning him into a fireball.
Then, this fireball ignited Sun Wukong.
Sun Wukong let out a roar, his body swelling, flames spouting from his mouth and nose.
A colossal ape appeared, his entire body engulfed in fierce flames—no, it should be said his fur itself was black flame.
The glass flame on the outside looked more like a layer of armor.
"Roar!"
Sun Wukong rose again, opened his palms, and swung wildly without pattern.
There was only extreme power, the power to destroy and annihilate everything.
The surrounding Buddha statues shattered and vanished.
Maitreya's Pure Land was destroyed by Sun Wukong.
This was only just the beginning; Sun Wukong clenched his fists, his huge fists like mountains smashing toward the Buddha.
Like a meteor falling.
The fist struck the Buddha's thirty-two marks, lifted, and the second fist of the other hand fell.
Alternating hands, each punch heavier than the last.
Black cracks appeared.
After thirty-six punches, the thirty-two marks shattered with a boom, revealing the Buddha's true form.
At the moment the thirty-two marks shattered, the Buddha pushed out a palm.
The palm shadow appeared out of thin air, right before Sun Wukong, his chest sinking in, forming a huge palm print.
Behind him, a large amount of blood and flame burst forth.
His massive body stiffened and collapsed directly.
Sun Wukong fell from the sky to the ground, landing precisely on Ling Mountain, utterly smashing the entire Ling Mountain into a heap of ruins.
The Buddha gazed at his right palm, where glass flame raged.
He suddenly clenched his hand; the glass flame exploded and vanished, but the flesh of his right hand also completely disappeared, leaving only charred hand bones, shrunk into the shape of a chicken claw.
The Buddha turned his head, looked toward Tang Luo, and said nothing.
"You wouldn't think you won, would you?" Tang Luo said.
"Hmph." The Buddha snorted with one hand, his intact left hand grabbing, Sun Wukong's massive demon ape body shattered with a boom.
It looked like true annihilation, smoke and clouds dispersed.
Tang Luo's face showed no anger, only a shake of the head.
"Still, let's try."
Over there, Ao Yu exhaled, said, revealed his true dragon form, a claw reaching out, wind rising and clouds surging, flames blazing.
The dragon claw descended upon the Buddha's head.
"Eh."
The Buddha merely gave a soft shout; the true dragon Ao Yu had transformed into, as if struck by lightning, fell to the ground, on the brink of death.
Then, the Buddha looked toward Zhu Bajie, seemingly intending to capture everyone in one net.
At that moment, possessing the bearing of a great general, like Mount Tai collapsing before him without startling, Sha Wujing stepped forward, appearing before the Buddha.
"Pulu!"
Sha Wujing, who had been blowing bubbles, still opened his mouth and blew.
But this time, the situation was completely different.
The water ball atop his head instantly condensed together, becoming a water droplet only the size of a soybean.
The droplet was entirely black, with a brilliant red speck at its center.
Red light swirled around the black water droplet, flying toward the Buddha.
The tiny water droplet, yet seeming to carry the weight of myriad worlds, trembled the surrounding space.
The Buddha opened his mouth, seeming about to again "speak and it becomes law," to shatter the water droplet.
But suddenly, he raised his left hand, blocking before his eyes.
The black water droplet tinged with red light fell into the Buddha's palm, his palm instantly pierced by a hole.
Even through this hole, one could see the eye belonging to the Buddha on the back of his hand.
Unfortunately, as the Buddha's palm was pierced, the power of that black water droplet was already exhausted, faded and vanished.
"Pulu."
Sha Wujing blew again; the tiny water droplet passed through the hole and fell onto the Buddha's face.
Had the Buddha not slightly dodged, this drop would likely have landed in his eye.
No injury, no trace left.
What Sha Wujing spat out this time was merely ordinary water—indeed, it could be said to be saliva.
Utterly devoid of destructive power; more so, it was just exhaling a breath.
Zhu Bajie's eyes widened, never expecting that Sha Wujing, who bore the air of a great general, truly did possess the bearing of a great general!
If it were him doing it, he surely could not achieve this.
The Buddha slowly lowered his left hand, expressionless, yet anyone could sense the fury in his heart.
"Hey." Sha Wujing chuckled, not waiting for the Buddha to act, then and there collapsed.
That strike was precisely what he had accumulated over countless years, his final blow paid for with his life.
Regardless of the outcome, he could not possibly survive — not even granting the enemy the chance to "pulverize his bones and scatter his ashes."
The Buddha's left hand twitched slightly; a surge of rage found no outlet, and the golden robes on his body billowed outward.
Though Sha Wujing was dead, there were still some people on the field...
A howling gale came from behind; the Buddha turned to look, and a black vortex appeared between heaven and earth.
A power was condensing, taking shape!
Forming a figure — a figure that battles heaven and contends with earth!
Sun Wukong returns!
"This is..." The Buddha couldn't help but take a step back.
"The battle spirit is undying, the divine soul is undying!" Tang Luo said, "How could Sun Wukong die that easily?"
"Whether killing him or taming him, neither is something you can accomplish."
The Sun Wukong who returned out of thin air had golden flames burning in his eyes; he reached out and grasped, and the Golden-Hooped Rod was in his hand.
"Again!" The second round begins.
If one looked closely, one would discover that his height was somewhat shorter than at the start.
