Chapter 928: Outdated

~10 min read 1,941 words

Jiu Ling Yuan Sheng's nine heads stared at Tang Luo, allowing himself to fall towards the Great Thunder Sound Temple beneath his feet.

Tang Luo and Sun Wukong resisted and blocked that sinking force.

Tang Luo returned to normal, merely his body slightly trembled, the fire in his eyes burst forth, almost completely engulfing his head.

After falling a few meters downward, Tang Luo finally steadied his posture, suppressed the flame, letting a small flame return to his eye sockets.

"Master." Sun Wukong looked toward Tang Luo.

"It's fine, just a minor injury, I won't die." Tang Luo waved his hand three times; although he had just used the Merit Jade Lotus to enter an untouchable state, after all it was a demon god-level attack, and still a violent killing move.

The Merit Jade Lotus also couldn't completely immunize against the damage; about one-tenth of it still struck Tang Luo's body.

This aggravated his already severe injuries.

From battling Guanyin until now, Tang Luo has been wounded upon wounded, appearing perilous.

"Where are the Maitreya people?" Tang Luo looked around, "At this point, are you still hiding like turtles? Get out and face death!"

There was an arrogant feeling before death.

"Impudent!"

"Sinful wretch!"

The sound of rebuke rang out; from within the Great Thunder Sound Temple flew a large number of Golden Body Arhats and Bodhisattvas.

They occupied the sky, forming an encircling ring around Tang Luo and Sun Wukong.

They looked like spectators at a colosseum, while Tang Luo and Sun Wukong were the two beasts fighting.

Among them, Tang Luo also saw some faces he had seen before, slightly influential, but these people all wore cold faces, regarding Tang Luo as an enemy.

From this one can see that Maitreya's control over the New Great Thunder Sound Temple is actually stronger than the Jade Emperor's control over the Heavenly Court.

Yet Maitreya still hasn't ascended to the supreme throne, truly steady as an old dog.

"Is this the great hidden danger of my Great Thunder Sound Temple?"

"Looks like nothing more."

"The legendary Sun Wukong and Tang Seng, do they look like the genuine article?"

Within the Buddhist chants, some discordant sounds were mixed in.

The Heavenly Court has many transcendents; the Great Thunder Sound Temple is similarly so, although they are all bald, one can still see some differences from the surrounding monks.

They are much more superior and arrogant.

The Buddhist chants never ceased; beneath Tang Luo and Sun Wukong's feet appeared a golden "ground", and above their heads a golden canopy covered the sky.

This formed a cage, trapping the two inside.

"Master, it seems that guy is destined to be a thousand-year turtle, ten-thousand-year tortoise." Sun Wukong saw Maitreya not appearing for a long time, mocked, "And that nine-headed lion, you're basically just a turtle, though your shell is quite hard."

After Jiu Ling Yuan Sheng fell into the interior of the Great Thunder Sound Temple, he also did not reappear.

No one knows what he and Maitreya are plotting; perhaps it's just to send those surrounding Arhats and Bodhisattvas to their deaths, in order to force Tang Luo and Sun Wukong to reveal their trump cards as much as possible.

Being this cautious and meticulous is definitely not just because of Tang Luo and Sun Wukong.

What Maitreley truly guards against is probably the Rulai.

In Maitreya's mind, the final opponent is not the monkey before him and the half-dead demon monk, but the Rulai who could appear at any moment.

Don't forget, when Maitreya originally wanted to tame Sun Wukong, he absolutely saw the Rulai's Five Finger Mountain.

He did not inform the Jade Emperor, but that does not mean he won't guard against the Rulai suddenly appearing.

Playing chess from afar, Tang Xuanzang and Sun Wukong, even the monks and Bodhisattvas of the Great Thunder Sound Temple, are all pawns of Maitreya and the Rulai!

At least Maitreya thinks so.

"Whoever appears (or makes a move) first loses a chip."

"Amituofo."

The Buddhist chants gradually faded; a Bodhisattva stepped forward, proclaimed a Buddhist name: "O wicked one, hurry and surrender!"

"I knew they'd send a sacrificial pawn." Sun Wukong snorted.

He looked down on the Jade Emperor, also looked down on Maitreya; if he wanted to fight, he should go himself—"follow me up" is the proper way.

"Make me go up," while hiding behind, what kind of thing is that?

Sun Wukong has always been the one to lead the charge; during the Journey to the West he was slightly special, part of the time responsible for holding the line, later responsible for blocking Tang Luo.

He blocked out a "Chan Tan Gong De Fo", and Sun Wukong always felt that the Rulai guy was hinting at something.

It's a pity he never figured out what the Rulai was hinting at; the Sea and Mountain Realm one-two-three just blew up.

"Ah." Thinking of this, Sun Wukong clapped his hands, Tang Luo looked over.

"Master, we forgot to ask the old Jade Emperor why the Sea and Mountain Realm shattered back then." Sun Wukong said.

"Are you curious?"

"It's quite curious." Sun Wukong said, "There must be a reason; at that time the Sea and Mountain Realm showed no decline, flourishing."

"No, it should be that the cultivation realm showed no decline." Tang Luo paused, "What exactly is the situation with the Sea and Mountain Realm, who knows?"

"Hey, Maitreya!" Sun Wukong shouted loudly, "Is it you lot of ten-thousand-year turtles who blew up the Sea and Mountain Realm?"

Above the True Buddha and Great Luo lie the Other Shore and Transcendence realms.

Here the Other Shore almost means exactly that: having the ability to pass through the Boundless Sea to reach another new world.

For the vast majority of wise beings in the Sea and Mountain Realm, the Sea and Mountain Realm is boundless, like the relationship between summer insects and Earth.

But for the Three Pure Ones and Three Buddhas, the Sea and Mountain Realm is not that large.

For them, could the Sea and Mountain Realm be a cage? If one day they suddenly had the means to blow up this cage and welcome a new world, would they not do it?

Among the people of the Sea and Mountain Realm, many have had this idea.

However, whether it's the Rulai or the Tai Shang Lao Jun, they are like dragons that show heads but not tails, let alone the Yuanshi and Lingbao that "disappeared" during the Sea and Mountain Realm era.

The Ancient Buddha of Burning Lamp is also like that.

So, the only one qualified to answer that question is Maitreya.

Thus Sun Wukong poses this question.

It's a pity, Maitreya is as steady as Mount Tai, unmoved even by spit on his face; instead, the unnamed Bodhisattva who stood out from the crowd was angered by Tang Luo and Sun Wukong's indifferent attitude.

"Wicked one! Unrepentant! Death is no loss!"

It was a fairly standard Buddhist rebuke; the Bodhisattva pressed his palms together before him, performed a reverent gesture, then pulled his hands apart to either side.

A golden Dharma treasure appeared between his hands.

The treasure overall was elongated, with a cylindrical front section and a more complicated rear component.

The cylindrical section, formed of six golden gun barrels, was strikingly conspicuous—a Gatling!

As the Bodhisattva lifted his hands upward, the Golden Legend Gatling soared into mid‑air, splitting into thousands upon thousands of barrels, all aimed at Tang Luo and Sun Wukong.

"Namo Gatling Bodhisattva……"

A murmuring chant rose and fell; many Arhats could be seen pressing their palms together in reverence, channeling power into the Golden Legend Gatling aloft, creating endless, compassionate salvation bullets.

"The Mountains and Seas realm shattered millions of years ago; this is not your era. Times change, and you have fallen behind." Namo Gatling Bodhisattva said, looking at Tang Luo and Sun Wukong's astonished expressions.

"Amitabha."

He pressed his palms together again in front of him.

The Gatling barrels spun, and a barrage of bullets poured down like a curtain covering heaven and earth.

Sun Wukong seized his Golden Hooped Staff, spun it to form a circular gold‑red light curtain, and as he swung his arm, it fully shielded his surroundings.

Bullets struck the staff, were constantly deflected, and collided with other bullets.

The tinkling sound was like large and small pearls falling on a jade plate—clear and melodious, actually resembling a musical piece.

Tang Luo finally drew out the Mysterious Transformation, casually raised it, and it formed a Mysterious Transformation Umbrella; he lifted it to block the barrage, and the umbrella's edge produced a hanging curtain of mysterious gold beads.

As the bombardment pounded, the bullets that could rend mountains and leave bottomless chasms on the earth drifted about like a mere breeze.

Tang Luo stood at ease, appearing even more effortless than Sun Wukong.

However, Tang Luo was merely defending.

What Sun Wukong needed to do was counterattack!

With Sun Wukong's light chuckle of "Is that all?", the bullets that had been scattered in disorder instantly coalesced into a counter‑current torrent, rushing toward the Transcendent One, Namo Gatling Bodhisattva.

The Transcendent One's clasped hands suddenly flew open, and his body flickered.

While defending, Sun Wukong continued his pursuit, treating those bullets as weapons and shooting them at the flickering silhouettes within the barrage.

Several times he narrowly missed the Transcendent One.

Moreover, the bullets deflected by Sun Wukong gradually coalesced, as if forming a true dragon that combined his power and surged toward the heavens.

It swept across!

All the Gatlings shattered, the barrage vanished, and the golden‑bodied Arhats grunted, blood trickling from their mouths—clearly wounded.

The Transcendent One instantly reclaimed his Dharma treasure, grasped it, lifted it, and aimed it at Sun Wukong and Tang Luo.

At the moment he was about to pull the trigger—

A sudden chill filled the space before him—a deathly ice born of stark killing intent, occupying every inch before him.

At some point, the Mysterious Transformation Umbrella in Tang Luo's hand had become a Mysterious Transformation Cannon.

Six futuristic‑feeling muzzles unfolded, as if forming three wings on Tang Luo's flank.

A glazed‑bone hand lifted, its black hollow eye sockets encased in blue ice, resembling a special modification—a future mechanical death angel.

"Indeed, the times have changed; the Gatling is obsolete." Tang Luo chuckled, clenching his fist.

Mysterious Transformation Torrent!

The torrent of death surged in all directions, engulfing everything around.

Arhats and Bodhisattvas, known and unknown, all vanished within the torrent.

Centered on Tang Luo and Sun Wukong, everything radiating outward was the destructive power released through the Mysterious Transformation.

Only a few managed to hold out for just a moment or two longer.

The muzzles turned, the torrent continued, surging toward the Great Thunder Sound Temple beneath their feet.

A luminous curtain appeared over the vast Great Thunder Sound Temple, blocking the Mysterious Transformation Torrent.

Looking closely, one sees that it is a vast, faintly visible golden hand.

Maitreya!

Sun Wukong beside him burst out laughing: "Finally you're willing to show up!" and his Golden Hooped Staff came crashing down.

On the palm appeared the figure of the Nine Spirits Primordial Sage.

The White Tiger's Head, chief among the Nine Spirits, opened its mouth and rose, emitting a tiger's roar together with the whistling of Sun Wukong's staff as it fell, forming a tiger's roar and dragon's chant.

The giant palm rose!

Golden Hooped Staff, torrent, White Tiger's Head, giant palm.

Four fearsome forces collided at this moment and exploded.

The immeasurably vast Mount Sumeru trembled and began to crack!
