Chapter 321: All Things Go Well

~7 min read 1,237 words

Arun actually drew the Black Spade 6, the very card that had originally been held by the God of Wealth, then drawn by I Kesi and added to his own hand.

“Too coincidental.”

Xia Yubing thought: “First the God of Wealth, then I Kesi , then Arun—each round, this Black Spade 6 is drawn again, changing hands. Every time it changes owners, it moves closer to the Gambler.”

Why is such an implausible thing happening?

Xia Yubing lowered her head, her gaze falling on the line Ning Zhe had written—she already had her answer.

“Because the Club 6 is in the Gambler’s hand, the Black Spade 6, which can pair with it, keeps being drawn round after round, inching closer to the Gambler until finally landing in his grasp.”

The Gambler’s luck is truly extraordinary—so good that even playing Russian roulette, he never gets shot; so good that when drawing the Joker, the card he needs comes to him on its own.

Everything goes his way. All things favor him. Fortune shines upon him. Prosperity crowns him.

It was I Kesi ’s turn to draw.

Xia Yubing calmed her emotions, watching I Kesi reach toward the God of Wealth, wondering silently: Last round, when the God of Wealth drew from Sally Sally, what card did he take?

Was it the Black Spade 9?

The moment this thought surfaced, a playing card slipped from I Kesi ’s fingers and landed with a soft thump on the table.

Black Spade 9

“Of course,” Xia Yubing no longer felt surprised: “This Black Spade 9 was originally in Sally Sally’s hand, then drawn by the God of Wealth, and now by I Kesi …”

Next round, it’ll probably be Arun who draws it, right?

“This Black Spade 9 is also moving toward the Gambler—meaning the Gambler holds the matching card, the Club 9.”

Xia Yubing glanced at the Gambler, seated motionless beside the table, holding only three cards in hand—she already knew the answer:

“The Gambler’s three cards must be Club 6, Club 9, and one unknown.”

“The two cards that can pair with them: Black Spade 6 is in Arun’s hand, Black Spade 9 is in I Kesi ’s hand.”

“That means, when it’s my turn to draw from the Gambler’s hand, I absolutely cannot draw Club 6 or Club 9—I must draw the unknown card, because drawing either Club 6 or Club 9 would leave the Gambler with an unpaired card.”

Such a thing cannot happen. The Gambler’s affairs go smoothly. All things favor him. Fortune shines upon him. Prosperity crowns him. No probabilistic event harmful to the Gambler can occur on this table—his luck is simply that absolute.

It was the God of Wealth’s turn to draw.

Xia Yubing stilled her thoughts, focusing on the God of Wealth’s hand—perhaps she could deduce the suit of the Gambler’s final card from which card he drew…

—Club A.

The God of Wealth drew a Club A from Sally Sally’s hand and added it to his own, clearly lacking a matching card—the Black Spade A was not in his possession.

It was Sally Sally’s turn to draw.

Sally Sally cast a cautious glance at Xia Yubing, her expression complex, as if lost in thought.

She drew a Heart 7 from Xia Yubing’s hand, successfully pairing it with her own Diamond 7; both cards were discarded to the center of the table.

Sally Sally still had four cards left.

Her luck was good—again, she drew a card that paired with her hand. Now, she held the fewest cards among all players except the Gambler, and with only four cards remaining, she could exit the game.

Sally Sally’s luck was truly exceptional—perhaps because she had previously joined Xia Yubing in performing a mass before the crucifix stained with Ning Zhe’s blood, fulfilling the conditions of sacrifice, blessing, and fire release.

But her good fortune also left Xia Yubing uneasy: she had performed the mass alongside Sally Sally, both offering prayers to the crucifix—why did only Sally Sally keep receiving good luck, while Xia Yubing herself showed no sign of fortune at all?

With these thoughts, Xia Yubing turned around—now it was her turn to draw.

Xia Yubing did not hesitate; she reached out and drew a card from the Gambler’s hand. As expected, it was neither Club 6 nor Club 9—but:

Club J. Xia Yubing had no card to pair with Club J, so she added it to her own hand.

This round of drawing ended. The next round began.

It was again the Gambler’s turn to draw.

Arun, now aware of what was unfolding, nervously shuffled his cards over and over before fanning them out before himself, staring intently at the suits on each card.

The Gambler’s movements showed no irregularity—he raised his mottled, corpse-stained hand as usual, extended it toward Arun, and gently pinched one card with his fingers.

“How is this possible?!”

The instant the card was pinched, Arun could no longer suppress his cry, his face flooded with terror.

His fingers clenched tightly, as if trying to prevent the Gambler from pulling the card free—but the Gambler remained unmoved, two fingers reeking of decay clamping down like iron tongs, forcibly extracting the card with a sharp slap onto the table.

Black Spade 6

“Of course,” Xia Yubing clicked her tongue inwardly.

Immediately, the Gambler drew a Club 6 from his remaining two cards and discarded both it and the Black Spade 6 to the center of the table.

The Gambler now held only one card left.

!

“If my earlier deduction is correct,” Xia Yubing thought, “his final card must be Club 9.”

And the card that pairs with Club 9—the Black Spade 9—is now…

Xia Yubing silently turned her gaze toward I Kesi across the table.

It was Arun’s turn to draw.

It was known that the Gambler’s final card was most likely Club 9, and the only card that could pair with it—the Black Spade 9—was now in I Kesi ’s hand.

If Arun now drew the Black Spade 9 from I Kesi , then when this round ended and the next began, the Gambler would draw that same Black Spade 9 from Arun.

At that moment, the Gambler would empty his last card and be the first to leave the table.

I Kesi , enduring the searing pain of his thigh wound, cast Arun a knowing glance. Though their information was not as complete as Xia Yubing’s or Ning Zhe’s, it was enough for them to understand one thing clearly—Arun must not draw the Black Spade 9.

Snap, snap, snap—

I Kesi shuffled his cards repeatedly before fanning them into a circular arc and holding them before himself.

Arun swallowed hard, reached out toward I Kesi , and slowly traced his fingers across each card, watching I Kesi ’s expression as he moved.

After long deliberation, Arun finally selected one card from the fan, pinching it between his fingers.

At that exact moment, I Kesi ’s expression froze.

If Xia Yubing had been standing behind I Kesi , she would have seen that the card Arun pinched was none other than… the Black Spade 9.

“How is this possible…”

Seeing I Kesi ’s stunned expression, Arun’s eyes widened—he instinctively wanted to release his grip and pick another card.

At that moment, the Gambler, who had sat motionless beside the table, suddenly stood up.
