Chapter 158: Delightful Harvest

Every time you kill a Maggot Human Bone, or kill a beast, a Treasure Chest can drop.

However, the dropped Treasure Chests are basically ordinary regular Treasure Chests; only their grade varies according to the strength of the slain monster.

The Maggot Human Bones Lin Yifan previously killed also left Treasure Chests; for example, the fake Father of God he just killed dropped a rather rare blue Treasure Chest.

Even those Xuan Snake Clan members each dropped Treasure Chests; however, the best they dropped was only a green one, while most were just ordinary white ones.

But he didn't expect that his impostor would actually drop a Special Treasure Chest!

Lin Yifan had previously encountered a Special Treasure Chest, namely the Treasure Chest Quest he took at the Water Pool, whose reward was a Special Treasure Chest.

Moreover, this Special Treasure Chest in front of him also has a matching Treasure Chest Quest; only by completing the quest can the chest be opened, otherwise no matter how many items are inside, he cannot obtain them.

Clearly it was his own carefully crafted outer shell that killed the impostor, and after finally getting a Treasure Chest to drop, he still has to complete a quest to open it, which left Lin Yifan feeling rather resentful.

But he has no choice. In this world, many things are not realized by human wishes.

He can only follow the world's order calmly and steadily to obtain what he wants.

So, even if he is dissatisfied, he still obediently lowered his head to look at the task prompt on the Special Treasure Chest.

【Congratulations, you have obtained a Special Treasure Chest, but unfortunately, you do not have the key to open this chest!】

【However, if you can complete the task issued by the chest, you can obtain the key to open it. Do you accept the Treasure Chest Quest?】

Lin Yifan looked at this string of task prompts, his heart filled with a wry smile.

Can he refuse?

After finally exterminating the impostor, the reward is right before his eyes; can he give it up?

Of course not!

So Lin Yifan can only accept the quest.

【Special Treasure Chest Quest Started!】

【Task: Within 48 hours, kill three Maggot Human Bones!】

Another Maggot Human Bone kill!

Lin Yifan furrowed his brows tightly; the task itself isn't that hard—provided he has enough fuel, Maggot Human Bones aren't a great threat to him.

The difficulty, however, lies in finding three Maggot Human Bones within 48 hours!

That's definitely not an easy matter!

It should be noted that up to now Lin Yifan has only encountered three Maggot Human Bones, and one of them was his own impostor.

Now being asked to find three Maggot Human Bones within 48 hours is truly too hard!

Lin Yifan was momentarily at a loss; otherwise he could only pick up the Special Treasure Chest, plan to temporarily place it in the Space Ring, and deal with it after returning to his Shelter.

However, the Special Treasure Chest cannot be placed into the Space Ring; it can only be held in hand.

Fortunately, before being opened, the Special Treasure Chest is not very heavy, so it doesn't hinder movement much.

Lin Yifan set the Special Treasure Chest aside and began scavenging the area.

It must be said that although this Father of God was a fake, it's unclear what methods he used, yet he managed to amass so much wealth in such a short time.

The area of a Level 3 Shelter is over 100 square meters; even though his Shelter is just an ordinary Level 3 Shelter, the size doesn't change.

The difference lies in the Shelter's construction materials, craftsmanship, and the strength of its protective measures.

Precisely because of that, even if this Level 3 Shelter in front of him is shabby, it still has the area of a Level 3 Shelter.

Yet within this space of over a hundred area units, many corners are piled with items.

Lin Yifan gave a rough look and found that these items are basically materials, most of which are Intermediate Materials.

Such as Intermediate Wood, Intermediate Stone, Intermediate Clay, and even a fair amount of Intermediate Cast Iron.

These materials aren't particularly precious for Lin Yifan, who possesses a Synthesis Stone.

However, for those without a Synthesis Room, gathering so many Intermediate Materials is certainly not easy.

The total amount of Intermediate Materials here adds up to nearly 2,000 units!

Besides these ultimate materials, there are also some high-grade materials, though they are common and not particularly rare.

Nevertheless, any high-grade material is valuable.

Not to mention, among these materials Lin Yifan also found 28 units of Mithril and 10 units of Refined Gold.

Although Lin Yifan hasn't yet figured out the special functions of Mithril and Refined Gold, these items are certainly precious—100% certain.

Not to mention, he also wants to craft armor!

Currently he possesses a blueprint for a chest armor, but crafting it requires Mithril as the primary material, and his Mithril supply is limited, so he hasn't successfully forged any armor yet.

But with this Mithril haul, he can forge armor once he returns.

Having armor for protection will give his life some safeguard.

Although Lin Yifan isn't afraid of death, when he can avoid it he still values his life greatly, so he places high importance on anything that ensures his safety.

Besides these materials, Lin Yifan also found five trays of Cultivation Soil in a corner of another room; three of them were Primary Cultivation Soil, while the remaining two were the rare Black Iron Grade Cultivation Soil.

Although Lin Yifan now has the higher-tier Bronze Grade Cultivation Soil, he still values the lower-grade Cultivation Soil greatly.

Because he discovered that aside from Cultivation Soil, even the most fertile land here cannot grow crops.

A few days ago, he turned over a patch of land in his own Shelter and had already planted some vegetable seeds there, all of which are heat- and cold-resistant and not picky about soil quality.

Normally, these seeds would sprout within two or three days!

However, three to four days have passed, and those seeds not only failed to sprout but even rotted!

He later tried multiple times with potatoes, sweet potatoes, soybeans—crops that have low soil requirements—but they still turned out rotten.

Even cuttings he took from the Blueberry Tree he previously obtained and grafted still rotted!

Only plants he finds in the wild can be transplanted onto that plot, but if a wild plant has been grown in Cultivation Soil, it cannot be successfully transplanted.
