Chapter 191: Another Clone
Lin Yifan stared into Su Tianhao's eyes; the other's gaze was frank and sincere, showing no trace of deception.
As for food, Lin Yifan no longer cares about it now; even if it's just to save Chen Yunuo's face, he would still give it.
However, being willing to give is one thing; how to give is another.
Anyway, no matter what, it must not be given too easily.
So, after a moment of contemplation, he feigned concern and nodded, "I can give you food, but my own supplies are limited, so I have one condition."
Su Tianhao hurriedly asked, "What condition?"
"I want to go with you to find your Shelter," Lin Yifan said bluntly.
The sibling pair exchanged a glance, both a bit surprised and showing a hint of worry.
Clearly they also knew that exposing the location of their Shelter was definitely not a good idea.
Su Xiao xi whispered, "Why? Don't you have your own Shelter?"
Lin Yifan gave a faint smile, "I want to verify something. If your Shelter is really close to here, that would be important information for all of us."
Su Tianhao furrowed his brows and also understood the implication in Lin Yifan's words.
After a moment of thought, he nodded promptly, "Alright, I'll take you to our Shelter, but…" He looked down at his injured arm and forced a smile, "The forest may be dangerous; in my current state I might not be much help."
"It's fine; daytime isn't too risky. If anything does happen, I'll protect you all the way," Lin Yifan said, then turned toward the Shelter, took out some dry rations and clean water, and handed them over, "Eat something first, restore Physical Stamina, and we'll set out shortly."
The siblings took the food and devoured it greedily.
Lin Yifan stood aside, silently observing them. Though he temporarily chose to trust, he still remained vigilant.
After eating, Su Tianhao's spirit clearly improved. He stood up, moved his arm, and exclaimed with surprise, "Strange, my hand feels like it's healed a lot; I think I can exert force now!"
"Could a full stomach also help the wound?"
"Maybe your injury wasn't severe to begin with; you were just scared, so you kept thinking it was serious!" Lin Yifan didn't want to say much.
The food he provided looked ordinary, but it had the effect of restoring Physical Stamina.
Su Tianhao's wound looked serious, but nowadays people's Life Tier has generally evolved, and their self‑healing ability isn't weak.
So, anything that restores Physical Stamina will have at least a bit of restorative effect.
However, Lin Yifan didn't want to say much to them; he had neither goodwill nor ill will toward the sibling pair, so he didn't want much interaction.
He decisively reminded, "Let's set off; daylight is short now, and I have to be back before nightfall."
The three packed up properly and headed southwest along the path Lin Yifan had previously cleared.
On the way, Lin Yifan asked, "When you were fleeing, did you notice any terrain features around you? Like unusual trees or rocks?"
Chen Yunuo recalled, "It was too dark then; we were only focused on escaping and couldn't see the surroundings. But…"
She suddenly stopped, pointing at a cut‑down low shrub, "This mark looks like something we left when we cleared a path earlier!"
Lin Yifan crouched to inspect and found the break still fresh, even oozing sap, clearly cut within the past hour or two.
He stood up, his gaze heavy, "Looks like we're heading the right way."
Continuing forward, the trees gradually thinned and the terrain began to rise.
Lin Yifan frowned because he realized the surroundings were becoming increasingly unfamiliar.
He remembered clearly that he had previously come to this area to gather supplies, so he still had some impression of the geography.
Everything before him was utterly strange; even the path he had personally forged was now hard to recognize.
At that moment, Su Tianhao suddenly pointed ahead and shouted, "Look over there! That cave is the place we planned to stay last night."
Lin Yifan followed his direction and indeed saw a small cave; inside, the ground still bore the remnants of an extinguished campfire.
He hurried over, crouched to examine the ash, and found residual warmth.
"You encountered the wolf pack here last night?" Lin Yifan asked.
"Yes!" Su Tianhao nodded, "The wolves came from that direction, and we were forced to run here." He pointed to a dense forest on the east side.
Lin Yifan stood up, brushed dust from his hands, "Alright, let's go see exactly where your Shelter is."
The three proceeded along the eastern trail; after less than five minutes, the forest opened up, and a swift little river spanned the view.
"This… this can't be!" Su Tianhao's eyes widened, "I remember clearly that the cave was at least a twenty‑minute walk from the Shelter; it's never been this close."
"And the river's flow is wrong too; I'm sure our Shelter was on this bank, so why is it now on the opposite side?"
"Besides, I recall the river's water being very murky, not this clear, and much larger than this."
Lin Yifan walked to the riverbank and carefully observed the water's direction and the vegetation on both banks.
The water was clear but fast‑flowing; the stones on the riverbed were smooth and rounded, clearly shaped by long‑term erosion.
"It's still the same river," Lin Yifan said gravely, "It's just changed."
Lin Yifan looked up toward the opposite bank. In the Mist, a simple wooden hut's outline was faintly visible. He pointed there, "Is that your Shelter?"
Su Tianhao followed his finger, panicked, "Yes! That's it! But I remember clearly the Shelter should be on our side; now it's across the river."
Lin Yifan took a deep breath and said slowly, "It seems my guess was correct—the Shelter's location moves."
"What?" the siblings exclaimed in unison.
"Not only yours, perhaps everyone's Shelter constantly shifts position," Lin Yifan said, his gaze deep, "This world is more complex than we imagined."
At that moment, the Shelter's gate on the opposite bank suddenly opened, and a familiar figure stepped out. The person looked up toward this side of the river, seemed to notice them, and waved in surprise.
Su Tianhao's complexion turned pale instantly, "That… that's me? How is this possible!"
Lin Yifan's pupils suddenly contracted—standing on the opposite bank was another Su Tianhao!
That person wore the same clothes, even the bandage on the arm was identical—but the Su Tianhao beside Lin Yifan had clearly recovered his arm considerably!
"What… what is going on?!" Chen Yunuo's voice trembled as she instinctively stepped back.
The "Su Tianhao" on the opposite bank also seemed stunned; he squinted, examined this side carefully, then his expression changed sharply, and he shouted something back toward the Shelter.
Soon, another "Chen Yunuo" ran out, and the two stared at this side, wary.
"It's a ghost…" the Su Tianhao beside Lin Yifan muttered, "That's us? But we're clearly here!"
Lin Yifan was actually very calm, saying softly, "There's nothing surprising, it's just a counterfeit wearing human skin; deep down it's a swarm of maggots."
"W‑what… what's going on?" Su Tianhao's face was full of bewilderment.
At that moment, the "Su Tianhao" on the opposite bank also seemed to have suddenly noticed them, and shouted across with a face of shocked anger:
"Where did you impostors come from? Why do you look exactly like me and my sister!"
The voice traveled over the rapid river, a bit muffled, but the general meaning was still clear, and the hostility in the tone was unmistakable.
Su Tianhao heard this and instantly became frantic, roaring in anger:
"Fuck your mother's bullshit! We are the true masters, you are the impostors. Show your true face quickly, or when we cross the river we'll make you pay!"
