Chapter 241: Your Payment for a Life

When Lin Yifan saw the pattern, he immediately knew this thing was a formation, because the characters used in the pattern were magical script.

When his gaze swept to the jade plate, the Eye of Appraisal in his eyes instantly activated, and the jade plate's information suddenly appeared.

Throw a Brick to Attract Jade: place an item the target has used onto the jade plate; the plate automatically locates the target's coordinates and transmits to the target. (Cooldown: 75 hours)

"Indeed, it's a good thing!" Lin Yifan took the jade plate, fiddled with it a couple of times, then unceremoniously tossed it into his Ring Space.

Although he didn't intend to use this thing to harm anyone, having such an item in hand would be useful if anyone dared to provoke him without fearing death.

As for what Zhao Tianba said, Lin Yifan naturally didn't believe a single word!

The guy clearly came to take his life; what he's saying now is just an attempt to exonerate himself.

Zhao Tianba, his face tense, spoke cautiously:

"Brother Lin, I've said everything that needed to be said; if you have any more questions, you can ask them now, I promise I won't hide anything."

"If you have nothing to ask, may I leave now?"

"You may leave, but the fact is you also want my life." Lin Yifan said calmly:

"I'm not some benevolent Buddha with a big belly; for those who seek my life, I can't let them go that easily."

"You can ask me to spare you, but a price must be paid. Think carefully now: what will you use to buy your life?"

For someone who wants to kill him, Lin Yifan naturally couldn't let them go easily.

However, he's not a man who breaks his word; since he said that as long as Zhao Tianba answers honestly, he'll spare his life, he wouldn't renege now.

Moreover, he still needed Zhao Tianba to do something for him!

But before that, he had to pull a small scam to compensate for his mental loss.

When Zhao Tianba heard this, his complexion instantly changed; he hurriedly took out a heap of items from his personal equipment space and exclaimed excitedly:

"I understand, I understand. These are the supplies I've gathered, mostly Intermediate and high‑grade materials, and there are also two Special Items. I give them all to you, just ask that you let me go!"

"I didn't expect you to have so many supplies!" Lin Yifan raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised.

The items Zhao Tianba produced contained no materials below Intermediate; although the quantity didn't match his stockpile, it reached about one‑third of it.

It should be noted that Lin Yifan's large material accumulation is due to his talent bonus.

Zhao Tianba's talent is clearly combat‑related, yet he still amassed so much, indicating the source of these items is not clean.

But whether it's clean or not doesn't matter; now they're his anyway!

Because Lin Yifan also needs supplies, and those two Special Items are urgently needed by him now.

One of the items is a tiny copper bottle no larger than a palm.

Purify Water Bottle: the bottle can hold 5 tons of water; regardless of water quality, if stored for more than 72 hours, the water inside will be purified to drinkable.

The upcoming Eternal Night will most urgently lack Water Source and supplies!

This bottle not only stores water but also purifies polluted water into drinkable water; if he fills it with enough water beforehand, he won't lack water for the next half‑month.

Lin Yifan unceremoniously claimed the item as his own and also picked up another item.

Infinite Flashlight: a flashlight that provides unlimited illumination in Mist; even during Eternal Night it never extinguishes.

It looks almost identical to an ordinary flashlight; the only difference is its oddly colored body.

The flashlight is a deep blue hue, etched with golden patterns, clearly indicating its extraordinary nature.

Although Lin Yifan has Radiant Stone in his hand, that thing is consumable; he only obtained a few pieces earlier and has already used most of them.

He had been worried that Radiant Stone would run out when Eternal Night arrives, but now with the Infinite Flashlight he need not worry.

"Thank you! Both of these items are exactly what I wanted." After Lin Yifan packed away everything, he finally said to the nervous Zhao Tianba:

"Fine! Since you've shown some sincerity, I'll accept your payment for your life, and your life is spared!"

"However, if you want to leave here, you still need to do one more thing."

Zhao Tianba instantly let out a sigh of relief and hurriedly said:

"Go ahead, tell me."

Lin Yifan didn't hold back: "Post a message in the World Channel, urging everyone to join this resource contest."

"Huh? Why?" Zhao Tianba asked, his face full of confusion.

Lin Yifan gave no explanation, replying impatiently: "Just do as I say! If you don't want to die, obey and join; if you don't want to live, that's up to you."

Zhao Tianba, not being clueless, didn't dare to waste words and quickly drafted a message, posting it in the chat channel:

"Everyone, listen to brother Yifan and join this resource contest, or bear the consequences of life and death yourself."

If it were only Lin Yifan speaking, that would be one thing; now even Zhao Tianba has spoken, those dissenters in the chat channel instantly fell silent!

Lin Yifan, still resolute, also let out a sigh of relief, then urged Zhao Tianba:

"Leave here quickly, before I change my mind."

"Alright, alright, alright, I'm leaving now! I'm leaving now!" Zhao Tianba didn't dare linger a moment and rushed away.

Lin Yifan watched his back, gripping his knife tighter and tighter.

He doesn't refuse to kill Zhao Tianba; it's just that at this moment, he cannot kill him!

The "Resource Contest" is about to begin; Zhao Tianba is still the strongest in the District, and holds some sway there.

Only his word can prevent more people from questioning it.

If he were killed now, his subordinates would likely doubt the situation.

If they later stir up trouble, it would cause even more suspicion.

So Zhao Tianba cannot die right now!

However, the dead will eventually be killed; Lin Yifan took out the Throw a Brick to Attract Jade, a hint of darkness flashing in his eyes.

He then set the matter aside for now, because he had more important tasks.

At this point, less than 40 minutes remain before the Resource Contest starts!

Although all the necessary items are on his person, Lin Yifan recalled the Maggot Human Bones he had encountered earlier and decided to purchase another batch of fuel as a precaution.

And at this moment, the Districts had just been merged; although he had already bought up most of the District's oil supplies, the people from the merged District still had a fair amount of stock.
