Chapter 303: The Experiment Madman
The sudden incident raised everyone's hearts.
Lin Yifan quickly tightened his grip on the sword in his hand, his face full of vigilance, saying:
"Everyone, be careful; something's off here."
No one is a fool; after the excitement, they naturally noticed the strangeness here.
But when they looked around, they still couldn't locate the danger, and likewise found no way out.
This made everyone's expression turn sour, and at the same time, a low chuckle echoed from all directions:
"Everyone, we meet again; your desperate struggles just now were truly entertaining, I feel sorry for you all!"
The darkness coalesced, forming a towering silhouette.
It was a man cloaked in a black robe, his features hidden in shadow, only his blood‑red eyes flashing with cold light.
The eerie, yin‑yang voice sent a chill through everyone.
"Darus, so it's you..." Lin Yifan tightened his long sword, his voice icy.
He finally recalled why that voice sounded familiar.
Because it was Darus's voice!
But in hindsight there was nothing surprising; only a few people could appear here, and their reasons for coming all stemmed from Darus.
It remains unknown what this guy actually intends to do.
Of course, he is far from friendly; that needs no further thought.
"Welcome to my domain, dear Human." When Darus realized he had been recognized, he stepped directly out of the darkness.
He raised his hand slightly, the darkness surged like a tide, and a playful smile appeared on his face:
"You think fleeing here will save you? Naïve... In fact, this is a tomb I meticulously crafted for you; your souls will be buried here, and your bodies will become my most loyal companions."
As his words faded, the surrounding darkness suddenly sprouted one white compartment after another, and the side facing Lin Yifan was entirely made of transparent Glass.
Thus they could clearly see what was placed inside those white compartments.
Those items caused everyone's expression to fall into panic.
Because the transparent compartments displayed a series of altered bodies.
Some bodies had insect exoskeletons attached, with slime dripping from the joints.
Some heads were sliced horizontally, filled with writhing black threadworms.
The one nearest the Glass was still convulsing; it was a girl stitched with raven wings, her spine piercing the skin like a series of pale ladders.
"This is... a Human Experiment Lab?!" Ruan Qingtan covered his mouth and began to dry‑heave.
Lin Yifan's sword tip trembled as he saw a head immersed in formaldehyde within a compartment—it was a comrade who had fought beside him just ten minutes ago!
Two electrodes were inserted into the temple of the head, and a centipede‑like mechanical tentacle protruded from the broken throat.
Although he was dead, his corpse was still alive!
Besides these, in several of the rooms Lin Yifan also saw a number of fully assembled monsters.
These monsters' forms were almost identical to the Stitched Monsters they had encountered in the contaminated Tower of Heroes.
They are currently dormant, but if awakened, it would be a disaster for Lin Yifan and his companions.
"This guy is the mastermind behind the contamination of the entire Tower of Heroes."
At an unknown moment, the silver‑faced one stepped beside Lin Yifan, his face grave, and said:
"It's a huge matter! The Tower of Heroes was contaminated centuries ago; I thought the culprit had long perished, yet this guy is still alive, and in this void he has created such a Human Experiment Lab."
"He led us here surely for our bodies; if we can't escape, we'll all become this madman's test subjects."
Lin Yifan, of course, understood this, but now there was no exit in any direction.
Even if they tried to flee, where could they go?
At that moment, Darus, his face intoxicated, caressed the Glass and murmured gently:
"What a perfect symbiote! I've devised countless symbiosis schemes, but lacking test subjects, I couldn't realize my grand experimental dream until now. If my experiment succeeds, what could ever match Humanity?"
"You intend to use us as test subjects?" Lin Yifan asked, his face cold.
"Exactly!" Darus licked his lips and chuckled:
"The fact that you've survived this long shows you are the fittest among this batch, so your bodies are the finest test subjects."
"Rest assured, I won't let you die painfully; as long as you obey, I'll let your consciousness dissipate without pain, and whatever I do to your bodies, you won't feel any suffering."
"But if you refuse the toast and drink the penalty wine, you'll suffer! So I advise you to be honest, obey my arrangements, otherwise you'll be worse off than death!"
The fanaticism and cruelty in Darus's eyes made everyone's hair stand on end.
Everyone had seen the Stitched Monsters with their own eyes and none could accept their bodies being defiled like that.
Let alone, after struggling to survive until now, being forced to wait for death—who could be content?
So after his words, the crowd instantly erupted in angry curses:
"You're literally a madman; we are living humans, and if we want to dominate this world, it should be by ourselves, not turning our corpses into a hodgepodge of monsters."
"We are living humans, yet you want to turn us into a pile of bodies you can stitch together—on what right?"
"You love human experiments so much—why don't you use yourself as the material and attach that mess of stuff to yourself?"
"Exactly, if you love human experiments, do them on yourself; constantly eyeing our bodies is just plain psychopathy."
……
Yet Darus truly felt no problem, his face a wild grin as he shouted:
"Madman? Haven't you heard the saying that genius and madness differ by only one character? So what if I'm a madman? So what if I'm a genius? My ideal is pure and great; you don't understand it, so you have no right to judge."
"Moreover, you should feel honored; you are sacrificing for all Human, your sacrifice is glorious and great, and you will become Human's heroes!"
"To hell with your heroes!"
Lin Yifan couldn't help but curse, then began to observe carefully, looking for a deep passage.
