Chapter 43: Treasure Chest, Will It Still Issue Quests?

Those who know the water pool all know: clear water is shallow, green water is deep, black water is an abyss.

The water pool before him is ink‑black; it is likely an abyss.

But the water pool is tiny—at most as wide as a bed.

Although the pool is deep, given its size there should be little danger.

Yet what makes Lin Yifan uneasy is that this pool has no inlet or outlet, yet it is not stagnant.

Through the water surface one can faintly see undercurrents moving below; this shows the pool connects to a dark river.

Now the pool seems harmless to people and beasts, but once a flood occurs it will inevitably become the source of flooding in this area.

This leaves Lin Yifan, who had harbored a slim hope, feeling utterly heavy.

He actually does not want to relocate; the location of his shelter is quite good.

Straight ahead the view is open, and the forests on either side are rich in resources, while not overly dense, so the number of beasts is not high.

Most importantly, he inspected before leaving today and found that the area around his shelter is about five to six hundred square meters, with fairly level terrain.

So as long as he clears the weeds and trees from the ground, it can be used for expansion.

And his Illusion Light Dome can cover 300 square meters, which fits perfectly here.

With such a fine location, finding another like it would certainly not be easy.

Therefore, if he can keep it unchanged, Lin Yifan deep down does not want to leave this place.

However, the water pool before him is forcing him to leave.

Unless he can make the underground river connected to the pool flow freely, preventing water from spilling onto the ground and becoming a flood source.

But this is absolutely beyond human capability, so Lin Yifan can only sigh at the pool.

However, at that moment a light screen suddenly appeared before his eyes.

On the light screen, a string of text kept appearing.

【Congratulations, a special treasure chest has found you!】

【If you can complete the quest issued by this special treasure chest, you will obtain the chest, and its rewards will be far greater than those of ordinary chests!】

【Of course, the special treasure chest quest is not mandatory; survivors may freely choose whether to undertake it, and skipping it entails no loss, but completing it could very well make you rich overnight!】

【Dear survivor, will you accept the special treasure chest quest?】

Special treasure chest?

What is this again?

Lin Yifan's face showed utter bewilderment; moreover, this special treasure chest actually issues its own quest, and one must complete the quest to obtain the chest.

How is this any different from a treasure chest that has become a spirit?

Even if this world is already crazy, it shouldn't be this crazy, right?

But no matter how bizarre the so‑called special treasure chest quest may be, he received it beside this black water pool, so it might be related to the pool.

Can he refuse?

Of course not.

Lin Yifan unhesitatingly chose to accept the quest.

【Dear survivor, you have made the most correct choice!】

【Special Treasure Chest Quest (First Stage, total five phases): Please personally hunt a wild boar and bring back 15 catties of pork. (Countdown: 23 hours 59 minutes)】

It is actually a multi‑stage quest, which is really a headache.

Moreover, the first stage's task actually requires him to personally hunt a wild boar.

Should this task be any more outrageous?

Are wild boars that easy to hunt?

In the whole district, only Hong Shaoqiang has managed to hunt a wild boar.

Of course, Lin Yifan is not saying he cannot handle a wild boar; the main problem is how to find one.

As a wild beast, it's not something you can just find whenever you want.

What's more, this is actually a time‑limited quest.

Lin Yifan couldn't help but consider whether to give up.

But does it have to be hunted by himself?

Would someone else's not do?

Why not try first and see?

Lin Yifan's backpack still contains a piece of wild boar meat, of course not 15 catties.

But he doesn't have it, while Hong Shaoqiang does!

So he directly opened a private chat with Hong Shaoqiang and sent a message:

"Do you still have fresh wild boar meat? If so, please give me 15 catties first."

At that moment, Hong Shaoqiang was in the rainforest, pressing a wild boar to the ground, ready to finish it off with an axe.

A thick wooden stick, as thick as an arm, was stuck in the boar's body, piercing its belly.

So even if Hong Shaoqiang does not finish it, the boar will not live much longer.

However, he stopped at this moment because he had set up a special alert for Lin Yifan.

Whenever Lin Yifan sends him a message, he receives it immediately and keeps sending reminders.

He is a grateful person, and to him his daughter is the most important.

Lin Yifan saved his daughter, making him his lifesaver, so he set up this special alert.

If Lin Yifan ever has an urgent matter and contacts him, he can respond right away.

So at this moment he immediately stopped what he was doing to check Lin Yifan's message.

After reading, he hurriedly replied:

"What a coincidence! I just happened to catch another wild boar today, and it's still alive! If you want wild boar meat, I'll kill it right away and cut the meat for you."

Lin Yifan saw this message, and his eyes lit up immediately.

A wild boar not yet dead!

If he brings it over and deals the final blow, wouldn't that complete the mission!

Lin Yifan hurriedly sent a message:

"Wait, wait, don't kill the wild boar yet; trade it to me now, and I'll deal the final blow."

"Don't worry, I only need 15 catties of wild boar meat; I'll return the rest, and I can also compensate you with other supplies for those 15 catties—just tell me what you lack."

Hong Shaoqiang wasn't lacking food to begin with; he originally intended to trade wild boar meat with Lin Yifan for supplies.

This naturally suited his wishes, so he hurriedly sent a message:

"Boss, you don't need to be so polite with me; last night you said you'd get my daughter some fever medicine, or else she might end up addled from the fever."

"Consider this wild boar as your thank‑you gift; keep it all!"

Having said that, he pulled up a wooden stick, pulled up the wooden stick, skewered the wild boar on it, and then initiated the trade.

After reading the message, Lin Yifan actually felt a bit more fond of Hong Shaoqiang.

After a moment's thought, he took a silk quilt from his Mustard Seed Space, placed it in the trade slot, and then clicked to agree to the trade.

After obtaining the wild boar, he was immediately startled by its gruesome state.

The day before, when Hong Shaoqiang produced wild boar meat, Lin Yifan still thought he had just been lucky to obtain it.

But now it seems he was wrong!

Hong Shaoqiang is not simply lucky; his combat ability is absolutely top‑notch!
