Chapter 12: I'm playing dead, so you can't hit me, okay?

~8 min read 1,547 words

A certain corner of Upper Nest.

Dense rebel forces, spirits tightly strained, gaze all around.

Especially the passage leading to the Tower Top, the rebels practically every few seconds, filled with immense fear, scan with both eyes.

Once packed, the rebels who were very curious about Upper Nest's various 'oddities' now all shrink behind the defensive line and buildings, not even daring to expose a bit of their bodies.

A great horror, instead, hovers above the heads of the rebels who specialize in bringing terror to others.

At this moment, this is the core of the rebel forces.

In a bunker buried deep underground, DuJiao sits on a chair, bearing the obvious horn on his head, his face full of resentment.

DuJiao is the horned man who previously brought the walking tank to Xisi.

As a cult rebel's room, DuJiao's place is now especially bright, even ablaze with lights.

If it weren't for the surrounding strange rebel soldiers filling the area, DuJiao's appearance truly has nothing to do with 'light'; one might think he had come to some hall of light.

After scanning every corner illuminated by the light, confirming at least he is still safe in this room, the fear in DuJiao's brow eased somewhat.

He reached out to pour himself a glass of phosphorus liquor, but just as he picked up the bottle, the front door suddenly swung open.

Bang!

The rebels behind the door and the surrounding rebels looked puzzled at DuJiao; the bottle full of liquor fell to the ground, spilling everywhere.

Seeing the liquor wasted, the rebels' faces showed regret, and they all swallowed.

But DuJiao looked at the doorway, confirming it was only his own subordinate rebels, and his expression improved a little.

But soon, before the rebel could speak, the resentment in DuJiao's brow began to grow denser.

"What is it this time?"

DuJiao, weak and breathless, now looking at the rebel at the door, felt bitter as if he had swallowed a whole piece of phosphorus.

There's no way; since I finally managed to 'beat the gongs and drums' and 'see off' Xisi's group of demon gods to the Tower Top.

I thought I could finally get a peaceful sleep, but before long, that group of demon gods actually came down on their own.

And the way they came down is really not something DuJiao likes.

The words of the rebel at the door also confirm this.

"About three thousand or more attacked our supply point; the supplies just delivered were taken again."

DuJiao's eyes twitched wildly; he stared blank for a moment, then gritted his teeth and said:

"Wasn't I told to strengthen the supply point's defense? How was it taken again?"

DuJiao only felt his heart pounding; he instinctively reached for the wine cup, but upon extending his hand he discovered his bottle had already fallen to the ground and drained.

His cheek twitched; he forcibly suppressed his anger and withdrew his hand, while the rebel at the door watched DuJiao's reaction and lowered his head slightly in fear.

"We have strengthened it; we deployed tens of thousands, but..."

The rebel dared not continue, but even if he didn't speak, DuJiao knew what happened afterward.

And thinking that three thousand people broke through his tens of thousands, with the fewer side being the attacker, DuJiao's gritted teeth gave rise to a deep sense of helplessness.

His body trembled from extreme emotional fluctuation; DuJiao shakily sat back in his chair, and though extremely unwilling, he forced himself to ask the question he had asked countless times before:

"Where are the observers? Have they spotted any familiar faces?"

The rebel at the door stiffly shook his head, seeing yet another group of soldiers he had never seen before; DuJiao was completely drained of strength and collapsed in despair.

"Evil god...... the opposite side is definitely an evil god!"

DuJiao slumped, head bowed, his face full of terror at having encountered something evil.

Even if you had only a couple thousand warriors in your hand, I could accept that those couple thousand warriors could cut through tens of millions of my rebels.

But you can't tell me these warriors are mass-produced!!!

When Xisi came to the Tower Top to loot rebel supplies and also rack up kills, DuJiao initially didn't react.

He merely thought these warriors lacked food and drink, and were unwilling to learn the rebels' cannibalism, so coming down to ask him for supplies was normal.

But after several battles, seeing that he had indeed knocked down some of them, yet the enemy numbers did not decrease but increased, DuJiao finally realized something was wrong.

Then a group of rebels with good memories was specially assigned to observe; after a few more occurrences, DuJiao received a terrifying piece of news.

That group of warriors on the opposite side seems to be different each time they come!

And the implication behind this makes DuJiao, even now, still unwilling to believe.

As a mid-level officer of the Nest City rebels here, he naturally knows there are absolutely no Imperial troops at the Tower Top.

If it weren't for fear of the Imperial side's air superiority, they would have already seized the Tower Top.

Therefore these new warriors certainly were not hiding at the Tower Top before, only appearing after Xisi went up.

And thinking that this means Xisi produced so many warriors in such a short time like an assembly line, DuJiao, after pondering, could only think of one explanation: a certain evil god personally descended.

And having confirmed that what he faces is not some small band of fleeing Imperial troops but a genuine evil god, DuJiao instantly felt the nonexistent piece of phosphorus in his mouth turn even more bitter......

"Boss, should we continue strengthening the supply point?"

Seeing DuJiao silent for a long time, the rebel at the door acted cautiously; unexpectedly, though his voice was not loud, DuJiao suddenly straightened his body.

"Strengthen? What strengthen?"

"They just want some supplies; why do you instead send people to refuse?"

"Do you even understand courtesy?"

DuJiao's face took on a hint of madness; having witnessed Xisi's various exaggerated deeds, he now firmly believed that the opposite side was definitely an evil god descended to the mortal realm.

And thinking that he had repeatedly refused the evil god's demand for 'tribute,' DuJiao felt a chill run down his back.

The more he thought, the more fearful he became; DuJiao suddenly sprang up from his chair:

"Pass the order down: cancel all firepower points; if above...... uh, if that exalted lord above comes again, no one is allowed to resist!"

Anyway, supplies are continuously produced by Zhongchao and Lower Nest; feeding those few people at the Tower Top is not even a drop in the bucket.

The rebels exchanged glances upon hearing this, but then they let out a relieved sigh from deep within and hurriedly nodded.

The rebel forces at the gate were even more afraid that DuJiao would regret it, so they turned and left, carrying out this order.

After all, DuJiao was afraid; these rebel forces that Xisi used to farm experience were even more afraid!

But the rebel forces had just left, and DuJiao's butt hadn't even warmed the seat when he fearfully ran back.

Then, pointing toward the Tower Top, he stammered:

"All...... all...... everything......"

DuJiao flared up in anger, glaring over:

"What 'all'? What 'everything'?"

The rebel forces were startled, quickly took a deep breath, faces full of terror:

"The people up at Tower Top have all come down, all have come down!"

The air instantly stagnated, and even the overhead light happened to flicker.

DuJiao's face instantly turned deathly pale, his eyes filled only with the fear of impending death.

But the imagined clash of gunfire never came; after waiting a long time, there was only silence, and DuJiao stared in confusion again.

Without asking the gate rebel forces, DuJiao personally strode out, and then, looking at a scene in the distance, his gaze gradually widened.

Several wide passages were filled with countless black soldiers, accompanied by a sky-full of footsteps, marching neatly into Upper Nest.

And these black soldiers did not launch an attack immediately; instead, they lined up on the ground, waiting to muster.

"Is this... an attack?"

DuJiao murmured, then, following the deployment and position of the Xisi Legion soldiers, he took two serious looks, and his gaze suddenly turned toward the passage from Upper Nest to the outside.

"No, it's a breakout!"

Tower Top lacked supplies, let alone factories and population, and this place was not a safe zone where the Alert Star Chaos Battle could hold out to the end.

For Xisi to survive the chaos battle, the only way was to break out toward the safe zone.

But Xisi had originally thought there would be a hard fight against the entire Nest City rebel forces; however, after DuJiao figured out Xisi's intention, it went off course.

"The evil god is leaving?!"

Suppressing the upward twitch at the corner of his mouth that he could hardly hold back, after DuJiao's face flushed red, he suddenly turned his head to look at the rebel forces beside him.

"Who the fuck dares to block! I'll chop whoever into minced meat!!!"
