Chapter 185: Praying for a God, Summoning the Divine Emperor

~6 min read 1,098 words

Aieribasi!

Even Xisi, who isn't a native, widened his eyes sharply at the sound of the name.

Then everyone around—whether aligned with the Empire or the Rebel Forces—showed a hatred so fierce they seemed ready to kill each other upon hearing the name.

Even Bai'er, who despises both sides, puffed out his chest with confidence and, upon hearing the name, spat from his moral high ground.

If anyone is the outright born villain of the Warhammer galaxy, it must be Aieribasi!

He belongs to the type who, even if he gains no benefit and suffers more than others, still delights in tripping up and troubling everyone else.

He is also one of the chief instigators of the Great Rebellion.

Although he is a Wordbearer priest, he does not believe in the faith.

He preaches the Chaos belief yet backstabs his close friend simply because that friend is favored more by the gods.

Even his name "Aieribasi" was stolen from a friend and usurped for the Wordbearer Legion.

Of course, the method of taking it was still a back‑stab killing the other.

Unlike other rebels who have myriad complex motives and circumstances, Aieribasi has none; he simply cannot stand others thriving.

Even if he gains nothing, just watching others suffer because of him makes him smug and a bragging point.

Thus Fanluosi hates him, Bai'er hates him, and even Xiulun, who has never met Aieribasi but only knows his deeds, also hates him.

Compared with Aieribasi, Bai'er is a reasonable good man! Xiulun is an upright gentleman!

And this very beast threaded through the entire Great Rebellion.

From luring Luo Jia into Chaos, to stabbing Helusu and letting the Four Gods possess him, to plotting Istawan's massacre of the loyalist faction of the Panbian Juntuán.

And later forging orders to force the Thousand Sons to betray, betraying Angelon to Terror, among many other major incidents.

As the Wordbearers say, once Aieribasi is found, Xisi can instantly gauge how far the Great Rebellion has progressed.

Because throughout the whole uprising, Aieribasi is the most damn active!

And when asked who in the galaxy now could most likely send him back to the 40K, aside from the Emperor on Terra, Xisi can't think of anyone else.

Thus clarifying the situation, doing everything possible to prevent the Great Rebellion's outbreak, and ultimately earning the Divine Emperor's trust to return to the 40K, is the only thing Xisi must do now.

Without standing, Xisi merely tilted his head slightly, waved at the incoming black‑gold skull.

"Go find Aieribasi."

Some unnamed star system.

The once pastoral, tranquil agricultural world, whose peasants once enjoyed the Empire's golden age, have long been turned into dry‑fried black human heads strung on black‑iron fences.

Ragged corpses contort across the former fields, and dark energy continuously spews from the profane sigils forged from farmer corpses into the real world.

The once brilliant sunlight is being eclipsed by rising dark clouds.

In the few cities of the agricultural world, hordes of Wordbearers drag desperate pleading mortal men and women, stabbing them alive into the Iron Thorns.

Then they watch the horror of the victims' brutal torment and the spray of blood; after completing this, the Wordbearers turn their heads to the other side.

There is a projection, within which stands a young priest whose head is covered with script.

"Lord Aieribasi, are you sure this will earn the gods' favor?"

Watching the evil ritual his subordinates are performing, the local Wordbearer company commander frowned and asked Aieribasi.

Aieribasi flashed a smug grin at the tortured, unrelated strangers and nodded with satisfaction:

"Of course! The more torment, the more the deities respond."

Aieribasi lowered his head slightly, a sinister grin curling his lips, while his eyes turned to the many mortals on the other side, brimming with great anticipation.

The Wordbearer commander kept his gaze on Aieribasi and followed his look; although he had only just joined the rebels and still felt some resistance to such acts, after a brief hesitation he looked at his own troops.

"Aieribasi, I f*** your mother!!!"

Seeing his own commander continue slaughtering mortals merely because Aieribasi wanted to watch.

On the other side, a loyal Wordbearer who had been disarmed finally couldn't hold back and shouted an angry tirade at Aieribasi.

Along with other nearby Wordbearers who remain loyal to the Empire.

Meanwhile, the loyal Wordbearer, restrained by a hesitant former comrade, silently gestured with his eyes for his allies to look at the mortals.

"Look, even if the Emperor isn't a god, does a god obtained by this method truly count as a god?!"

"Even if it is, it's still an evil god!"

The loyal Wordbearer tried to persuade his nearby comrade, whose hearing the words only deepened his hesitation.

But Aieribasi, looking at the loyal Wordbearer who disliked his methods and cursed him, shifted his cold stare from the mortals to those Astartes.

Cold‑looking at the Wordbearers who opposed him, Aieribasi turned his head back to the Wordbearer commander.

"Of course, if the mortals you sacrifice never draw the gods' attention, perhaps..."

"You could replace them with more meaningful offerings."

Saying this, Aieribasi looked at the loyal Wordbearers, while the commander's face twisted into a massive struggle upon seeing Aieribasi demand he slaughter his former brothers.

But Aieribasi gave no room for hesitation; to ensure these loyal Wordbearers met a grim end, he declared resolutely:

"Rest assured, as soon as you sacrifice, the gods will respond immediately."

Wordbearers are fanatics, especially those who have clearly defected into Chaos.

The commander still struggled, but faced with his legion's priest's guarantee, his eyes were overtaken by fervent belief.

The last flicker of struggle vanished from his eyes; as he coldly turned his back on his former battle comrades, his humanity was utterly erased.

Watching his own hand orchestrate this spectacle, Aieribasi's face lit up with even more smug excitement.

Then, as the commander personally approached the loyalists, the half‑hour prayer ritual finally…

…yielded a response!

A massive divine energy surge suddenly manifested in the planet's orbit.

Feeling the overflowing divine power, Aieribasi's eyes widened in astonishment that a deity had truly been summoned.

The company commander was ecstatic, quickly turning around to prepare a bow.

But as the company commander turned, Airebas also switched to "Pious", and they looked up to see the Dream Illusion Vessel shining with Divine Light in orbit, along with the golden‑sun "Divine Emperor".

Airebas: "???".

Company commander: "???".

All the Huaiyanists: "???".

It is not......

We've been pleading for ages, how did we end up pleading to you, old man?!
