Chapter 342: You Never Said We Still Have to Fight the Ancient Beastmen!

~6 min read 1,080 words

At the edge of the galaxy, a barren planet in a dark corner.

A misty low mountain gorge, with a few broken walls and ruins standing under the shadows at the foot of the mountain.

The architectural style seems to bear a few human characteristics; on the weathered pillars, some patterns and characters appear to be carved.

However, after an unknown number of years of erosion, the patterns and characters have long become indistinct.

Looking at the lower half of the stone pillar, completely buried by dust, it may have had no visitors at all since its ruin.

Until a shadow silently drifted over the dust, making the already shadow‑covered dust even darker.

"Sir, you never mentioned before that we still have to fight the Ancient Beastmen."

A burst of static from the communicator crackled at that moment.

Then, for unknown reasons, a thick layer of flying ash underfoot stirred and rose slightly, provoked by the sound.

The shadow halted, and a human hand dropped, slightly turning, causing the ash to reverse like time and return to its proper place.

After completing this, Raymond glanced back at the Dead Spirits representative behind him, his eyes showing clear displeasure.

Seeing the human before him not only remain silent but look at him with resentment, the Dead Spirits representative froze, raised a finger, and pointed it directly at Raymond's nose:

"Indeed, we never said..."

The ash rose again; Raymond quickly reached out to push it back, then, seeing the uncooperative Dead Spirits representative, he angrily enveloped him with a burst of spiritual energy, turned, and led Raymond toward the wreckage's core.

Soon, upon reaching the wreckage's center, a stone door slowly opened outward on both sides, and the surrounding dust also dispersed to the sides, not being drawn by gravity into the doorway as expected.

Only after Raymond and the Dead Spirits representative flew inside, and the stone door closed, did the ash reverse like time and once again cover the door.

From the outside, even the most advanced scanning devices could not detect any trace of past biological activity.

Yet beneath these ruins, a long tunnel stretched endlessly into the depths.

Raymond and the other figure slipped through silently and swiftly.

The Dead Spirits representative, visiting this place for the first time, stared with his curious Prosthetic Eye, scanning the surroundings continuously.

This place appears to have once been a site of worship; all around stand towering statues as massive as mountain ranges.

Strangely, although the statues remain remarkably intact, all their heads have been removed from the necks.

The Dead Spirits' eyes kept scanning, trying to record everything before them.

Raymond had no objection; he simply pressed on, eager to deliver the latest news back to the Secret Sect.

Soon, as the path opened up, Raymond arrived at his destination.

It was a vast underground chamber, its ceiling studded with unknown minerals that glimmered with faint blue light.

Looking up from the chamber, the countless blue specks in the endless darkness resembled a splendid galaxy.

And at the very center of this boundless 'galaxy' of darkness stood nothing but a primitive hut built entirely of thatch and wood.

If not for the living metal on the Dead Spirits' body and his array of cybernetic prosthetics, a time‑traveler would likely think they'd landed in a lost xianxia world at first glance.

Staring at this ancient human thatch hut, the Dead Spirits fixed his Prosthetic Eye's unspoken glare directly on Raymond.

Then, under Raymond's flaring anger, the Dead Spirits—uncharacteristically—snapped back:

"Your Secret Sect just loves to play god and haunt people."

This time Raymond couldn't even bother to look at the Dead Spirits; instead, the image of the Silent King kept resurfacing in his mind, and he hurled the harshest insults he could muster at the Silent King for this disgusting situation.

Is the Dead Spirits merely being obstinate?

Of course not!

As an ancient civilization with an absolute hierarchical empire, the Dead Spirits—especially their upper echelons—pursue etiquette to the utmost.

Such short‑sighted superiors could never repeatedly provoke Raymond.

The only reason this situation arose is that the Silent King deliberately did so, aiming to vent all his accumulated resentment onto the Secret Sect.

Because of that same line.

"You bunch of bastards never said that cooperating with you also means fighting the Ancient Beastmen!"

Poor Raymond has no words; the Dead Spirits portray the Secret Sect as having everything under control.

Their grasp of galactic affairs, even across multiple future timelines, is utterly incomprehensible.

Thus the Dead Spirits fully acknowledge the Secret Sect's terrifying power in this regard.

So when the Dead Spirits discovered that the Secret Sect had never spoken of the Ancient Beastmen, yet the Ancient Beastmen suddenly emerged.

Their first reaction was that the Secret Sect had deliberately hidden it from them.

Raymond also had no words, because even with many immortals and legends like Macado, the Secret Sect truly hadn't anticipated that after Xisi fought the Beastmen and the Tairen, the Ancient Beastmen would be brought out.

Although only a few Ancient Beastmen appeared and the lower ranks remain Beastmen legions, a slight efficiency gain would mean that, at this high intensity, Xisi is not far from fully unleashing the Ancient Beastmen.

Soon, Raymond, suppressing the disgust sent by the Silent King's Dead Spirits representative, waved casually outside the hut, and a projection instantly unfolded.

The origin of the projection technology is unknown, but the images seemed to bring several silhouettes straight to the front of the hut.

The figures, who had been meditating, looked somewhat surprised at the sudden appearance of Raymond and the Dead Spirits.

If Xisi were here, these silhouettes would certainly not be strangers to him.

Many of these silhouettes were members who had been invited to join the Secret Sect on Day 30K.

Although not all members, the simultaneous appearance of so many indicates the urgency.

"Raymond, your heart is unsettled."

A voice of indeterminate age called out from the crowd.

The surrounding silhouettes gave a brief glance before calmly taking their seats.

As former worm‑people exterminated by humans, they subtly displayed a trace of contempt.

It seemed each of them possessed a temperament superior to Raymond's.

They would not become restless over trivial matters.

Raymond, too lazy for idle talk, immediately broadcast Victor's message to everyone.

Then......

A group of shadows that had been composed and steady stared blankly, then suddenly sat up straight!

"No, how did the Ancient Beastmen return?!"
