Chapter 39: Still Attacking!

~7 min read 1,256 words

Like a steel pillar smashing into tofu, the torpedo easily pierced the densely packed building cluster of the Nest City.

Xisi now stands at the Chaodu Waipi, but scattered new recruits still lag behind him.

As the Nest City behind him begins a chain collapse inward under the torpedo impact, the recruits still inside the Nest City only feel the ground beneath their feet start to shake.

First the shaking, then in an extremely brief instant, the vibration turns into violent trembling.

"Nest City! The whole Nest City is shaking!"

Bunoke is shocked, and not only Bunoke— even Xisi is astonished by a scene he has never witnessed before.

The Nest City spans thousands of kilometers; rather than a city, it is more like a continent entirely built of steel.

Now, the entire "continent" shakes violently before Xisi's eyes, the towering Nest City spires soaring into the clouds emit alternating steel wails, turning into meteors that crash down from the cloud layer.

The scattered new recruits behind cannot dodge in time and can only watch helplessly as a mass of steel the size of a modern city hurtles toward them.

In contrast to the few new recruits, the billions of Chicken Thieves in the Nest City watch the surrounding buildings crush and topple; they howl toward the sky while reaching out with both hands, trying in vain to hold up the collapsing structures.

Of course, these Chicken Thieves, having lost individual consciousness, ultimately become mixed into the endless steel, merely decorations in this ruin.

Just like the Green Skin in the boundless cracked rock layers outside the Nest City.

What is an Apocalypse battlefield? One Orbit strike turns billions of ground forces into ash!

The body rises and falls repeatedly with the undulating ground.

Even from a great distance, the continent beneath Xisi's feet turns into waves, rippling outward in concentric circles from the center where the Whirlwind Torpedo struck.

Thanks to Abadon not intending to completely annihilate the Alert Star, this torpedo only suffices to wipe out a region a thousand kilometers wide, so while the Nest City's collapse is shocking, Xisi, who escaped outside, merely experiences the ultimate surfing of the 42K era atop the surging rock layers.

Retracting his gaze from the scattered new recruits and the billions of Chicken Thieves, Xisi dry‑swallows, his Adam's apple sliding, and finally manages to steady his mind.

At this moment, everyone around stares dumbly at the shocking scene; the confidence once derived from ground combat evaporates with the modest display of human technological might.

Xisi's expression remains grim as he looks around, watching the entire Alert Star become a terrifying, apocalyptic tableau.

Countless Light Spears pierce the clouds, scorching vast swaths of the continent and everything atop it into glass.

The towering Nest City, like a mountain range, is hit by the torpedo and instantly crumbles like piled sand; a light touch turns it into dust raining from the sky.

In the uneven rock layers lie endless crushed Green Skin; several fighter jets streak through the gaps left by Light Spears in the sky, and farther beyond the jets, a warship of the Empire several kilometers long billows thick smoke, slowly crashing into the crust like a colossal beast.

Then an earth‑shaking explosion raises a mushroom cloud that pierces into space; after tearing the cloud layer, it disperses boundless toxic dust high in the atmosphere.

In the distance, countless cannons fire, their glints illuminating a massive Void Shield; behind the shield, a gigantic accelerator cannon the size of a Small Nest City roars toward the Orbit.

The muzzle smoke follows the glaring flames, instantly forming a massive dense fog that blankets the land below.

Everything around appears so colossal that when Xisi pulls his gaze back to the over‑hundred‑thousand surviving soldiers, they seem not even a single ant amid these apocalyptic images.

At this moment the ground beneath his feet begins to gradually calm; facing the crowd around him who have finally steadied themselves and are looking at him, Xisi can only turn and direct his gaze toward the far side of the continent, where a Void Shield remains active, struggling to repel the Chaos Grand Army in the Heberia Nest Area.

"We head to Heberia; we went there once before, now it's just another trip."

Xisi speaks, and the surrounding soldiers stare at the Green Skin sand sea before them, completely transformed—its terrain, topography, even natural features unlike anything they recall from memory.

The only connection to note is that even under massive extermination, the Green Skin Frenzy has not perished but grown even stronger.

Watching the front of the ground calm, the rear is swarmed by endless Green Skin mixed with hundreds of ancient massive junk, bursting out from the depths of a flat glass sheet hundreds of kilometers wide that has fully melted.

On the other side, Subspace Evil Thunder descends from the sky, along with the Chaos Grand Army intermingled with countless armored units and even knight Mechs.

Both sides wage a mortal‑unimaginable slaughter on the repeatedly devastated ground, and even ahead of the Chaos Grand Army, various A-space Demons have begun to appear.

These demons, through profane rituals, tear reality apart and frantically spew fissures, joining the chaotic frenzy that engulfs the entire Alert Star.

Now, Xisi will lead his Regiment across such a battlefield, heading to the Imperial Side's final control zone on the Alert Star.

Looking at the troops behind him—no vehicles, purely flesh and blood—Xisi gives them a deep glance, then turns his head, and with the ever‑collapsing soaring Nest City further behind, walks toward the boundless glass where fighting rages.

A bomb streaks across the sky; a mutated cultist suddenly collapses, and the Green Skin youngster in front has no time to rejoice, because another bomb detonates, smashing its grotesque head—still bearing a terrified human skull—into a pile of broken mud.

Both warring sides stare in surprise toward the bomb's direction; atop the towering wave‑like ground, a Regiment flag soars, and tens of thousands of human soldiers roar across the sky, fervently pouring onto the Green Skin and the Chaos Grand Army.

Raise the flag, open fire.

Pointing at the chaotic battle ahead, Xisi roars to the surging soldiers beside him:

"Tell them, this place still belongs to the Empire!!!"

Heberia.

Endless firepower from the sky smashes the Void Shield, while the ground teems with countless demons surging from Subspace fissures.

The humans on the fortress fight back bravely; Mortal Legion, Astarte, Battle Nun, Mech, and even Nobility mercenaries—all now have reddened eyes as they unleash fire outward.

Just as several Light Spears pierce the heavens, a smoking fighter jet darts through; a latest report from the field is personally escorted by an Extreme Warrior, who rushes through the layered gates of the core fortress with hurried steps.

The bustling Command Center, accompanied by the "clang" of the doors being forced open, draws everyone's gaze to the entrance.

Kaerjia sits above, his once‑calm visage gone; his brows knit, as if he cannot find a moment of ease.

Watching the Extreme Warrior who burst through the doors, Kaerjia feels the precious seconds wasted; the red glare on his left Prosthetic Eye becomes even more glaring!

But when the Extreme Warrior reaches the projection sand table and places a marker on the Alert Star, already completely fallen except for Heberia, everyone present instantly widens their eyes.

A deep voice from above then reverberates:

"You mean we still have a Mortal Legion out in the field......"

"Still launching an attack?!!!"
