Chapter 5: How Do We Emit Red Light?

~7 min read 1,400 words

Xisi raises his hand and fires a shot, the laser precisely piercing at least three unprotected Rebel Forces heads.

Then the saber slams down, flipping a nearby mad Rebel wielding a Great Axe onto the ground.

The saber's edge is already rolled, so Xisi's action is more like smashing than cutting.

He raises his hand again, killing four unbelieving Rebels; corpses lie all around Xisi's feet, and his body is once more drenched in blood.

Even the mad Rebels, seeing Xisi's sight, cower around, daring not approach him.

Xisi takes the chance to reload, while his eyes glance around.

At the GreatGate, endless Rebel Forces surge like never ending, raging out of the DeepChannel.

Outside, Bunoke and other remnants and Veteran101 of the Regiment, clutching any weapons they can find, desperately hold back the surging enemy tide.

Yet their combined strength is under two thousand; before the endless Rebels, almost everyone is scattered, forced to face several, even a dozen Rebels in simultaneous assaults alone.

Veteran101 is okay, having the TwoHundredBattleSurvival boost, but Bunoke and the other remnants, even offering all their loyalty to the Emperor, still suffered huge casualties.

Only after passing the initial HundredfoldAccumulation did they gradually steady their formation.

Xisi finishes reloading, watches the densely packed Rebels eyeing him, eager to attack. He tosses aside his saber, scans the area, and picks up a SawtoothSword from the corpses at his feet, its appearance not very loyal.

Like a signal, when Xisi stands upright, the densely packed Rebels pounce again.

This time, Xisi strides toward the Rebels!

If the initial fight allowed the Rebels to trade blows.

Then, after such prolonged slaughter, tens of thousands of Rebels fell outside the gate, and the surviving Xisi soldiers have undergone a metamorphosis.

Each kill multiplies their power Hundredfold, as if killing a hundred at once, causing an instant qualitative leap.

So they went from being pressed by the Rebels to pushing back.

Even the Rebels' surge from the channel is nearly slower than the Xisi soldiers' killing speed.

As they kill more, the soldiers' combat power inflates dramatically, giving a vague sense of grinding experience.

Xisi busily pays loyalty to the Emperor on the Rebel corpses, having no mind for the surroundings.

At the GreatGate, the Rebel commander in charge is facially rigid, eyes bloodshot, raging at the sudden emergence of Imperial Army outside the gate.

Especially since corpses pile like a mountain at Xisi's feet, the Rebels must look up and climb the slope to attack!

Watching Rebel corpses roll down from Xisi's corpse mountain, the Rebel commander, like a frantic gambler, can't help pointing at Xisi and his soldiers, shouting at the terrified nearby Rebel officers:

"Is this damn thing even human?"

The commander feels aggrieved, and the surrounding Rebel officers even more so; after all, his rant actually makes sense.

Even the Star Realm Army couldn't block tens of thousands of Rebels with fewer than two thousand troops.

It's not that his subordinates are only tens of thousands; rather, since the gate opened, he has sent out tens of thousands himself.

That means the Rebels behind can't see outside, and are somewhat spurred by a cult; otherwise this slaughter would have broken their morale.

Yes, slaughter!

At this moment, the Rebel commander looks outside and only this adjective remains in his mind.

"How about we retreat first?"

"Right, right, retreat first, gather heavy weapons then!"

A few Rebel officers hesitated to speak, but the commander, upon hearing, glared, his already raging red veins shining brighter.

He raised his hand, a shot, resulting in a proposal to the officer; amid the surrounding people's silent terror, the commander's face showed only a madness that refuses to sit at the gambling table.

"Keep sending troops; I don't believe they can become more daring as they kill!!!"

The sky gradually darkened.

Xisi forcefully draws the SawtoothSword, and with a kick sends a clearly better‑equipped Rebel tumbling off the corpse mountain.

Then his chest, like a bellows, heaves violently; the Long Sword planted in the ground, he gasps heavily.

The Rebels ahead surge back to the nest; even the newly emerged Rebels, seeing their commander cut down by a HumanoidDemon on the corpse mountain, retreat in terror.

Only Bunoke, eyes bloodshot, holding a machine gun with an empty magazine, crazily pulls the trigger at the fleeing Rebels.

Each time, without a barrage, only the crisp trigger click, still scares the Rebels into frantic trembling.

Xisi glances, confirms the Rebels won't emerge for now, finally discards the SawtoothSword and plops his whole body onto the corpse pile.

A pair of weary eyes scan the ground, the number of his men now far fewer than before the gate opened.

The survivors, after confirming temporary safety, lie heedlessly on the ground; their chests still heaving, blood‑soaked bodies indistinguishable from the surrounding corpses.

No one speaks; under the increasingly dark sky, only intermittent breathing sounds.

Until night fully fell, black clouds covering the world in darkness, the icy night wind whistling, a rumbling stomach growl abruptly broke the silence.

Xisi suddenly rises from the corpse pile, looks at his sole foul‑mouthed adjutant Bunoke, but the hoped‑for answer doesn't come, only his brows furrow tighter.

Because the hunger sound came from Bunoke.

"We've been without rations for over a day."

Bunoke knows Xisi wants to ask about supplies, so he answers directly.

Xisi, hearing this, looks toward the distant ground behind him and the empty black night sky, instantly dashing any hope of Command Center airdrops.

The surviving veterans all look at Xisi; even the strongest combatants need food.

Some even begin focusing on the Rebel corpses.

But Xisi, seeing this, hardens his gaze:

"No one may eat people!"

The soldiers' hearts thud, quickly averting their gaze.

It's not that Xisi wants to preach humanity in this messed‑up world; after all, Corpse Starch is an Imperial specialty, and many who want to eat must queue.

But who the hell knows if these Rebels have any Chicken Thieves or the small blessings of the Filthy Father?

Xisi certainly doesn't want a meal that would inexplicably make him join the HorosUprising! Or suddenly think the Emperor should have four arms!

After this slaughter, the crowd no longer dared to show the slightest disrespect to Xisi; faced with the pile of corpses heaped at his feet, even Bunoke instantly regained the decency he had lost for years.

So, since Xisi wouldn't let them eat, the crowd completely gave up the idea.

But the crowd's hunger wouldn't disappear just because Xisi forbade eating; as they recovered, more and more people began to convey their hunger with a "gurgle-gurgle".

Xisi, helpless, after a brief pondering, had to turn his gaze toward the deep, pitch-black Nest City before him.

"According to the map, the supply station won't require us to go very deep."

Xisi looked at the passage opening, Bunoke also glanced, then raised his machine gun that had long been emptied.

Seeing Bunoke indicate he had no ammunition, Xisi exhaled a puff of white vapor, picked up his sidearm that likewise had no energy, glanced at it, thought, then tossed the sidearm aside.

"Nest City is narrow; use the Rebel Forces' swords and axes."

Xisi spoke; the surrounding soldiers merely hesitated for a moment, then directly threw away their long-broken rifles, lowered their heads, and picked up various handy weapons from the Rebel Forces' corpses.

Only a moment later, after the crowd finished arming and stood at the GreatGate, Xisi looked at their appearance and immediately froze.

Already lacking armor, their clothes from continuous combat were already in tatters.

At this moment, a group of burly men with bare torsos, their bodies drenched in blood, held in their hands exaggerated melee weapons such as sawtooth swords and great axes.

Especially Bunoke, having lost his machine gun, directly transformed into a double-axe berserker, standing before them with a fierce aura.

If Xisi himself didn't know, outsiders would think this was some fanatic of Terror that had suddenly appeared.

He didn't even know whether it was because they had just slaughtered too many, but when the soldiers switched to melee weapons, the scene Xisi next witnessed left him completely stunned.

He slightly lowered his head, looking at his own hands gripping the sawtooth sword and at the veteran before him who began to glow, Xisi wore a look of bewilderment:

"How...?"

"Emitting red light?!"
