Chapter 86: The Great Pet System

"Scared?" Lin Bai grabbed the little fox, amusing himself, "If you fart again, the lightning that zaps you will be this big and this thick. If one bolt lands on your head, not even a scrap of you will be left."

The little fox stole a glance at Lin Bai, trembling.

"So, you'd better manage your little chrysanthemum. If you dare to let out even a bit of foul air, I'll use Palm Thunder for a thousand-year kill and blast your little fox chrysanthemum." Lin Bai reached out to tug at the tail the little fox had tucked between its legs; he couldn't pull it out even after two tries, and he couldn't help but laugh, "Right, that's the way. Your master here is a peerless expert; you won't lose out by being my pet. When I refine pills in the future, I'll let you eat them first."

Hearing the word "pills," the little fox shook even more violently.

Stroking the fox's fluffy head a few times, Lin Bai felt the soft, smooth texture and laughed: "It's only because you little thing are so cute. Otherwise, just for that fart earlier, you would have already become a scarf."

Flicking his finger against its bloated belly, Lin Bai laughed: "Don't be afraid, it'll be fine in a while. This is a lesson for you; remember for the future, don't just eat whatever people give you, no matter how fragrant it is. It's lucky you met a kind-hearted person like me..."

"You guys pet cats, I pet a fox, and such a cute white fox at that. It's a pity I can't post it to my social feed, otherwise I'd make you all green with envy..."

"Legend says that those who see a Nine-tailed Fox can become emperors, but unfortunately, you only have one tail."

"Let me give you a name! My name is Lin Bai, and since you're so white, how about I call you Xiaobai? How's that?!"

"Xiaobai, the fragrance of the Zhangdu Pill can actually be used to lure beasts. I don't know if it works on Demon, but it's said there are Demon in this world. Up until now, I haven't seen a single one! You grew up in the mountains and forests, you must have seen them, right?"

"When my skills are greater in the future, I'll take you to subdue demons and eliminate monsters, and by the way, I'll get you a manual of demon arts to practice. Maybe I can even train you into a Demon..."

"No, wait, I can't turn you into a Demon, I still need to whisper sweet nothings to you! If you really become a Demon, I'll have to finish you off! Because you'd know too much... Hahaha..."

The bored Lin Bai was teasing the little fox he had caught when a system quietly popped up in his mind:

"Pet System: Human affection for pets is innate. Pets can bring people a sense of security, happiness, and even joy; they can regulate your mood and are your true Soul companions. At certain special moments, pets can fight side-by-side with you, and may even sacrifice their lives for you."

【Capture a pet that belongs to you; Reward: Affinity with the pet's species +1】

【Capture a pet that belongs to you (Completed); Reward: Fox Affinity +1 (Already issued)】

【Talk to your pet; Reward: Fox Affinity +1】

【Talk to... (Completed); Reward: Fox Affinity +1 (Already issued)】

Alright!

The system really is as capricious as it wants to be.

Lin Bai didn't expect that the fox he caught on a whim to complete the Great Language System's task would actually open up another system for him.

And, without realizing it, he had already completed several tasks.

In most games, there is indeed a mode for capturing babies and having pets participate in combat.

Usually, in battle, the role played by pets is very significant.

Therefore, players are very willing to capture powerful babies and train them to grow.

But this little fox he caught, besides looking a bit good, seems to have no combat power, and it's also a glutton...

If he had known it would open a Pet System, he should have caught that leopard earlier...

Also.

What the hell is this reward of affinity?

Will foxes automatically surround him and lick him when they see him?

Does a Fox Demon count as the same species as a fox?

If it also works on the Fox Demon Clan, then this Pet System is truly powerful.

In that case, he wouldn't mind raising a few more varieties of pets to help him fight.

Compared to fickle players and unpredictable natives, pets whose favorability has been built up seem more trustworthy.

Moreover, the tasks for the Pet System seem quite easy to grind; it's nothing more than talking to it or petting its fur.

He'll save up the favorability first, and when his strength is greater in the future, he'll go find a Fox Demon to see if the affinity works?

Lin Bai made his decision.

The little white fox had been caught by Lin Bai, threatened and intimidated, and its belly was aching from bloating, leaving it both panicked and desperate, thinking its life was coming to an end.

But once the effect of the Zhangdu Pill wore off and its painfully bloated belly recovered, it returned to calm.

Listening to the chatter of the Lin Bai who had caught it, saying strange things, the little fox's fearful thoughts unexpectedly vanished without it realizing.

When Lin Bai tugged its tail or touched its belly, it would make it feel a bit shy, but it didn't dare to resist.

But when Lin Bai spoke about finishing it off if it turned into a Demon.

The little white fox subconsciously tucked its tail in tight.

It recalled the behavior of those brothers and sisters who hadn't awakened their intelligence, let out a few squeaks, and didn't dare to let a single trace of human-like expression show in its eyes again.

Perhaps.

This powerful human really just covets its good looks and wants to catch a pet to play with; once he gets bored of playing, it will just find a chance to slip away.

But then again, being held in the palm of this powerful man's hand and stroked, it actually feels quite comfortable...

The morning sun rose.

Players arrived one after another.

High-level players like 【Madman】 and 【Jingbuyi】 were the fastest.

When they saw Lin Bai standing on the treetop and the tree in front of him split open by Palm Thunder, they were all stunned.

The Dark Guard often wandered around Jiamu City, so they naturally had seen that tree that had been split by lightning overnight.

But at the time, no one connected that Thunder-struck Wood to Lin Bai.

Now, with a lightning-struck tree appearing in front of Lin Bai as well, how could they not understand that the tree in Jiamu City was also split by Lin Bai.

Haunted House, Wind Riding technique, Palm Thunder, Lin Bai's bizarre behavior...

So that's how it is.

In the dark, signs had long since pointed them in the right direction!

Yet they were blind to the treasure right in front of them, pointlessly wasting so many days of cultivation time!

Truly stupid!

"Alliance Leader Lin, did you split this tree with Palm Thunder?" 【Silver】 looked at the tree still emitting a charred smell, clicking his tongue in wonder.

"Mm." Lin Bai stroked the white fox in his palm, continuing to play the part of an expert, "Your speed is too slow, so I took the time to subdue a Demon Beast. Also, do not call me Alliance Leader; although the Beggar Sect serves me, I do not hold any position within the Beggar Sect."

Hearing the words "Demon Beast," the little white fox in his palm trembled imperceptibly, and a strange feeling inexplicably arose in its heart; it couldn't quite tell which of the things its master—who had delivered himself to its door—said were true, and which were false.

Wasn't the Palm Thunder used to split that tree just to scare it?

Why did it sound as if he had fought a great battle with it?

Had he figured out that it was a Demon or not?

"A Demon Beast?"

The group of players froze, looking in unison at the fox in Lin Bai's palm.

The team voice chat started up again.

"What a beautiful little fox."

"Say, this game should allow us to catch pets, right?"

"I also want a little fox like that."

"Shopkeeper Lin used such a fierce move to catch this little fox; its level must be very high. It probably won't be easy for us to catch one."

"Shopkeeper Lin, are there really Demon Beasts inside Xishan?" 【Madman Nan】 asked.

"Of course." Lin Bai nodded, "These past few days, your hunting of Fierce Beasts in Xishan has long since attracted the attention of the Demon Beasts in the mountain. This little white fox must have come out to scout your situation, but unfortunately, it ran into me and was captured. Otherwise, if you had come to Xishan to hunt today, it might have taken you all down."

Lin Bai casually made up a story to build his image, but he did not notice that the little fox on his arm was already gritting its teeth with all its might to keep from trembling.

He knows, he knows everything; I must find a way to send this intelligence back, otherwise, provoking this man will bring a catastrophe upon my family...

Took the child back to my hometown, caught a cold draft on my neck, and it's quite uncomfortable, so that's all for today! The chapters owed to the Alliance Leader will all be made up one by one. -_-||
