Chapter 380: The Person You Can
The handsome, upright Li Ye transformed in an instant into a rampaging demon god—punching, kicking, dodging, leaping—and in barely ten seconds, every tenant, regardless of gender or age, lay sprawled on the ground, unable to move, groaning helplessly.
Everyone around stood frozen in shock.
Fuck, this kid actually beat up women—how brutal!
Damn, he's tall, handsome, and strong—almost like Gao Cangjian.
After a while, a few officers finally clicked their tongues and said to Li Ye: "Comrade, you've put us in a tough spot. You were in the right, but now…"
"Whether you think I'm right or wrong doesn't matter—just follow the rules."
During Li Ye's indiscriminate clearing of the courtyard, Tan Qin had rushed over to support Wen Leyu, and now she held her sister tightly, her eyes filled with ferocity and sharpness.
The officer frowned: "Comrade Tan, following the rules won't be easy here…"
The tenants on the ground were no longer just groaning—some were screaming for Li Ye to pay with his life. Taking down so many at once was truly problematic.
But Tan Qin coldly waved her hand: "No need to explain—you'll know what to do when the time comes."
The officer paused, finally realizing something.
Sure enough, as soon as Li Ye arrived at the police station, Wen Guohua stormed in, face twisted with rage.
Seeing Li Ye, he launched into a tirade: "You think you're so capable? Then why couldn't you protect my sister? You've been bragging like Huo Yuanjia—where are those bastards who beat her?"
Li Ye pointed inside without retorting. Seeing the blood mark on Wen Leyu's neck, he felt he had no right to speak back.
Wen Guohua immediately strode toward the direction Li Ye indicated, rolling his wrists as he walked.
Li Ye quickly got up and followed—this was exactly what he feared: if Wen Guohua got involved, things would spiral out of control.
But once Wen Guohua reached the scene, he remained eerily calm—nothing uncontrollable happened.
Li Ye wondered: was it because they were already so broken that further beating was pointless?
Or was it that at Wen Guohua's level, one had to restrain one's emotions?
Wen Guohua clapped Li Ye on the shoulder and whispered: "You've passed my test. Go talk to my father tonight. Don't say I didn't warn you—Leyu is his precious jewel. Good luck to you, kid."
Li Ye nodded: "Alright. I'll go see Uncle Wen after I finish here."
Wen Guohua glanced at Li Ye: "After you finish? When will you ever finish? Come with me now!"
Li Ye signed a few documents and followed Wen Guohua away.
Before they'd gone far, they heard Zhang Bazi and the others shouting their grievances behind them.
"How are we rioting? We're the victims!"
"Are you all blind? It wasn't eight of us beating one—it was one of him beating eight of us! It was one against eight!"
When Li Ye arrived at Wen Leyu's home, he was indeed scolded by Wen Qingsheng—but this scolding… it felt off.
"What madness have you two fallen into? Why on earth did you buy a courtyard? Won't your wedding home be provided by the family? If you really need space, just move in—you've lived here before."
"Look how dangerous this was today! What if someone had grabbed a pair of scissors? Would you regret it for the rest of your life?"
Even if it wasn't scissors, what if someone scratched Leyu's face? What would you do? Is a shabby house worth this?"
"Slap!"
Wen Qingsheng slammed the table, still unsatisfied: "And since you did hit someone, why wait until Leyu was beaten? Are you eating yesterday's leftovers? Don't you know the rule: strike first, gain the advantage?"
Li Ye kept his head down, silent, occasionally fighting back a smile.
If Wen Qingsheng had greeted him with indifference today—or even barred him from entering—Li Ye would have been truly terrified.
But listen to what Wen Qingsheng just said—what kind of attitude is this?
This is how you scold your own son!
After Ke Laoshi called Wen Leyu into the room and questioned her, the atmosphere in the house became even funnier.
"Stop scolding Li Ye—ask your daughter what really happened."
"Huh?"
Wen Qingsheng turned to Wen Leyu: "Leyu, is there more to this story?"
"Actually… I tripped myself."
Wen Leyu stuck out her tongue, excitedly saying: "I saw Li Ye dodging those people, weaving around, and I got furious—why are you putting up with this? Why dodge at all?"
"So I went to help—I tripped one guy with a leg sweep, then went for the second."
"But that old woman was too fat—after I tripped her, she grabbed my clothes, I lost my balance, and fell over on the courtyard furniture."
Li Ye was genuinely stunned—he'd been surrounded by so many people he hadn't noticed how Wen Leyu had operated.
Now that she explained it, she was clearly a hidden mastermind!
"Slap!"
Wen Qingsheng slammed the table again, scolding Li Ye: "Look at you—you're worse than Leyu! You're usually so sharp, but why were you so stupid today? Running like a chased dog?"
Li Ye bowed his head again, barely holding back his laughter.
At that moment, Ke Laoshi waved a hand and asked: "Little Ye, you and Leyu chose the house behind the Forbidden City—is that because of your future job assignments?"
"Job assignments?" Li Ye slowly shook his head: "I haven't thought about that yet—it's too early."
"You're about to enter your third year—it's not too early," Ke Laoshi said, studying Li Ye's eyes. "Did you buy that courtyard because you want to work near Chang'an Street?"
"I have no such intention."
Li Ye replied calmly: "Teacher Ke, I have no demands about job assignments. If I must have one, it's this: wherever Leyu is assigned, I'll find any job nearby. Wherever she goes, I go."
Ke Laoshi smiled: "You two have already planned this, haven't you? Just now, Leyu told me it's the opposite—that she'll follow you wherever you're assigned."
Li Ye looked at Wen Leyu—her cheeks instantly flushed crimson, and she shot him a reproachful glare, as if scolding him for saying such things in public.
But Li Ye felt today was the day to say it all clearly.
"If you're asking why we bought that courtyard—"
Li Ye smiled: "Teacher Ke and Uncle Wen are both in Beijing, so we need our own little home here too. This courtyard is close to you, in a prime location, and has huge appreciation potential."
"Appreciation potential?" Wen Qingsheng scoffed: "All you economics students care about is money? You spent forty thousand today—do you really think you'll sell it for two million?"
Li Ye could only smile awkwardly, playing it conservative: "Uncle Wen, based on housing trends in capitals and major cities worldwide, and after scientific calculation, I believe this courtyard will likely exceed eight digits."
"Eight digits?"
Wen Qingsheng froze.
Beside him, Wen Guohua also stared blankly, instinctively spreading his fingers and counting: "One, ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand…"
Even Wen Leyu's eyes widened, spinning rapidly in disbelief.
Mind blown.
But Wen Qingsheng quickly snapped out of it and glanced at Ke Laoshi: "Flipping houses is just a game—don't treat it like real business."
Li Ye nodded: "I understand, Uncle Wen. My future plans still center on manufacturing—manufacturing is the future of our nation."
"Manufacturing?"
Wen Qingsheng and Ke Laoshi both fell into thoughtful silence.
After dinner, Wen Leyu walked Li Ye out.
Once they were alone, she asked him: "You said that house will appreciate hundreds of times—is that true?"
"It's just my guess," Li Ye smiled. "What? You're tempted? Didn't your dad just say it's just a game—not real business? Too low-class."
"I never thought of it as business."
Wen Leyu mumbled, then added: "I was thinking… maybe we should transfer the title to you? Having such a huge sum under my name feels… wrong."
This girl had solid values.
Ever since Pei Wenhui figured out the relationship between Li Ye and Wen Leyu, Wen Leyu had been receiving monthly "financial reports" from Ice and Fire.
Though stunned by how much money she now had, she'd always treated her one-third share as Li Ye's—she saw herself as merely a steward.
This was clear from her habits.
The hundreds of thousands of dollars in her account had indeed shaken her "frugal and simple" habits.
But it only moved her from "giving leftover soy milk to Li Ye" to buying two bowls—drinking one on the spot, taking one home.
If Li Ye ever told her to pour one out, she'd flip out.
When he bought her gifts, she never accepted anything without a clear need. When they went out, she never let him spend money unnecessarily.
So now, with a house potentially worth eight digits under her name, she felt the money was too much—and it unsettled her.
Li Ye stared at Wen Leyu for ten full seconds before bluntly asking: "So what if it's in your name? Isn't yours mine? You're mine—body and soul—so why care about a house? Besides, today you saw it yourself: without you, I couldn't have held onto it."
Wen Leyu, pinned under his gaze, stared back for a long moment, then slowly smiled.
"Yes, yours is mine, ours together."
"If you can't protect something, I'll protect it."
"If you can't handle something, I'll handle it."
"You'll help me beat people up? You'll help me beat people up? My parents will beat me!"
"No, my mom will help me!"
