Chapter 557: You Two Siblings Are Something Else
Ko Teacher's arrival still came as a surprise to Wu Wu Juying.
She had thought that if Ko Teacher were to come, it would be at night, when things were quiet and fewer people were around—she never expected the mother and daughter to arrive so early in the morning.
After all the other patients in the room had left, Ko Teacher opened her lunch box.
"I only just heard from Xiao Yu that Xiao Xia Yue gave birth. We didn't have any fresh carp at home, so I only had time to simmer a pot of pig's trotter soup—I'll cook fish soup tonight and have Xiao Yu bring it over."
Wu Wu Juying hurriedly said: "You really shouldn't go to so much trouble—you're so busy, don't let this interfere with your work."
"Auntie, don't be so formal with me," Ko Teacher shook her head with a smile, pointing at Wen Wen Leyu: "Three years ago, my daughter was as skinny as a bean sprout."
"But after eating three years of special meals cooked by Xiao Xia Yue and Li Ye, look—our family now owes Xiao Xia Yue three years' worth of meals!"
Wen Wen Leyu had indeed been consistently "fed" by Li Ye these past three years, and the results were outstanding—her slight frame had completely shed its "thin" appearance.
Especially her long legs, now perfectly long and rounded in the way Li Ye liked best, and her chest had also developed quite nicely.
Decades from now, when some immortal woman's thick legs became the new beauty standard, it wouldn't be without reason.
A little flesh on a slender frame is still far better than a bony skeleton.
"You can't say that," Wu Wu Juying shook her head repeatedly: "It's no trouble for the kids to cook one meal. Your time is so precious. Besides, didn't I hear it was Xiao Yu cooking for Li Ye?"
"Hahahaha!"
Ko Teacher laughed heartily: "True, Xiao Yu has learned to cook now—but the first meals she made? Only Li Ye could swallow them."
"Don't say that, don't say that—Xiao Yu is such a smart girl."
Wu Wu Juying smiled warmly, feeling deeply comforted—Ko Teacher's current attitude clearly treated the Li family as kin.
Only Wen Wen Leyu, off to one side, pouted unhappily.
Her cooking was top-notch, for goodness' sake—otherwise, how else would Li Ye keep praising her with all those variations: "Xiao Yu, you're amazing!" "Xiao Yu, make another dish! I'm still hungry!"
You're all old-fashioned—cooking just means dumping more oil, hmph.
Li Ye noticed his little wife was upset, so he led her over to his big nephew.
Wen Wen Leyu immediately brightened and began playing with the baby—poking his arms, poking his cheeks, feeding him formula, changing his diaper—she was thoroughly delighted.
Eventually, even Ko Teacher couldn't watch anymore; she frowned and said: "Enough already! Are you treating a child like a toy? His skin is so delicate—how can you roughhouse like this?"
But Wu Wu Juying glanced at Ko Teacher and said: "Oh, let them learn to handle him! Otherwise, when they have their own kids, they'll be flustered and clueless."
Ko Teacher looked at Wu Wu Juying and smiled: "Auntie, Xiao Yu's older brother will be getting married soon. Once I finish dealing with this one, shall we start discussing the weddings of the two younger ones?"
"What else can we do? We're old now—our only wish is for our children and grandchildren to have good fortune. Li Ye is a man of fortune."
Wu Wu Juying's face beamed with joy—how had such an unattainable match in others' eyes become so naturally inevitable in her own?
She didn't notice Ko Teacher's concerned gaze fixed on her daughter.
Only Ko Teacher knew: if she blocked Wen Wen Leyu's union with Li Ye, she couldn't say what would happen to Li Ye—but her own daughter would lose at least half her life.
By afternoon, the grandmother, exhausted from a full day and night of labor, could barely hold on, dozing off even while seated on the bed.
"Grandma, let me take you home to sleep tonight. You can come back tomorrow to keep my sister company, alright?"
"Tomorrow? Won't your father be here tomorrow? Why do you need me?"
Wu Wu Juying smiled and said it, but still followed Li Ye and Yang Yang Yumin's advice and returned to Zaojunmiao.
At eight p. m., Yang Yang Yumin took Yang Huaiahua home as well—she hadn't rested well these past days, and now that the heavy burden was lifted, she was utterly worn out.
Li Juan and Zhao Zhao Meiwen were both first-year university students; Li Ye forbade them from staying overnight outside, so after eight, the room held only Li Ye, Wen Wen Leyu, and Fu Fu Yiruo.
Fu Fu Yiruo gave Li Ye a look, nodding toward the door.
Li Ye nodded and pulled Wen Wen Leyu out with him.
Moments later, Fu Fu Guiru entered the room from outside and sat at the head of Li Xia Yue's bed.
"Mom, how did you get here?"
"Shh, I just came to check on you two. Don't make a sound."
Li Xia Yue bit her lip, wanting to smile—but instead, tears fell.
She had just dreamed of Fu Fu Guiru while asleep—and now, upon opening her eyes, the dream had come true.
Fu Fu Guiru wiped Li Xia Yue's tears and smiled: "Don't cry. No crying now. Have you named the baby yet?"
"My grandma gave him a nickname—Xiao Dun. Everyone says it's perfect, so I didn't dare object."
"Your grandma's a country bumpkin."
Fu Fu Guiru scoffed, picked up her grandson, studied him for a long while, then smiled contentedly: "Good. He looks like you."
"See? Li Ye says he looks like me too—but I think his eyes look more like yours, Mom!"
Li Xia Yue was quite proud, completely missing Fu Fu Guiru's implication—that at least he didn't look like Yang Yang Yumin.
Fu Fu Guiru pressed her cheek against the baby's, then asked Li Xia Yue: "After your confinement, would you like to come stay at my place for a couple days?"
Li Xia Yue blinked, pouted: "What do you mean 'after confinement'? I'm going to your place to do my confinement—Mom, you promised me that."
Fu Fu Guiru glanced at Li Xia Yue and said: "Don't talk like that. If you come to my place for confinement, how would your father arrange it? If you refuse to let your stepmother care for you, won't your father be unhappy? Since things are how they are now, you have to learn to tolerate each other."
"I'm a mother now—why should I care what my father wants? Besides, I have a real mother—why should I—"
Li Xia Yue stiffened her neck defiantly, as if she had already overturned the mountain above her head.
But before she finished speaking, Li Ye's voice came from the hallway: "Dad, why are you here so early? Your train isn't until tomorrow."
"I rode my motorcycle. I got a flat tire and lost some time—otherwise I'd have arrived during the day."
"Sister's asleep. Come back to Zaojunmiao with me first—Grandma has something to say to you."
"Oh, okay. I'll just put my things down and leave. These are the diapers your sister-in-law cut out."
Fu Fu Guiru looked at Li Xia Yue in surprise and whispered: "What's going on? Did you arrange this?"
Li Xia Yue shook her head frantically—her shocked expression couldn't be faked.
Fu Fu Guiru didn't dare delay. She stood up, walked to the window, opened it, and climbed out—her movements swift and agile, nothing like a woman in her forties or fifties.
"Mom, you—"
Li Xia Yue couldn't help crying out in alarm—her room was on the second floor; one misstep and she could be seriously injured.
Just then, her father Li Kaibian entered the room and heard Li Xia Yue's cry.
"What were you just shouting about?"
"I—I didn't shout anything!"
Li Xia Yue denied it quickly, but her darting eyes couldn't fool a scout.
Li Kaibian looked at his panicked daughter, bewildered and puzzled.
Then suddenly, he noticed the open window—and a flash of insight struck him.
Li Kaibian lunged to the window and caught sight of the figure rapidly retreating below.
In an instant, the sharp, alert company commander froze like a statue.
"You two siblings are something else."
Moments later, Li Kaibian roared in fury, abandoning the bag in his hands, and with both hands on the windowsill, flipped out after her.
