Chapter 362 - 361: If Your Brother and I Fight, Who Do You Help?
Xue Xingzhou looked at Xue Yue. "Coming over at this hour? What’s up?"
Xue Yue smiled. "It’s good news. You’ll never guess. We have an apartment for you."
Zhang Qian gasped, exclaiming in surprise, "An apartment? Where did an apartment come from?"
Xue Xingzhou looked at Xue Yue, just as curious.
Xue Yue explained that He Lang had invested in Wang Hai’s real estate business.
Xue Xingzhou raised an eyebrow. "Wang Hai is in Beijing City?"
"You know Wang Hai too, Brother?"
Xue Xingzhou smiled. "I do. I even bought a bicycle from him."
"The second-hand one?"
Xue Xingzhou nodded. "So he’s out of the black market and into real estate now?"
"Yep. He Lang invested and got a few apartments out of it. He specifically saved one for you—a little over 1,300 square feet. He said he was worried you wouldn’t take it, so he wanted me to be the one to ask."
Xue Xingzhou replied nonchalantly, "Of course we’ll take it. Why wouldn’t we? Why would I turn down such a great offer?"
Xue Yue smiled. "That’s good. Saves me the speech I had prepared to convince you. I told him that given how close we are, you’d definitely accept. You have no idea how much He Lang admires you. He said he’d be happy to give you money, let alone an apartment."
Xue Xingzhou laughed. "HA! Oh, really? Maybe I should go ask him just how much money he’s willing to give me."
Xue Yue nodded. "You should. Go ahead and ask. I’d like to know, too."
Zhang Qian blinked, watching the brother and sister banter.
After Xue Yue left, she finally voiced her question. "An entire apartment... and you just accepted it like that?"
Xue Xingzhou looked at her. "What else would I do? She’s my sister. Since they’re offering, why shouldn’t I accept? Didn’t you hear her? They got several apartments, and they specifically set this one aside for us."
Zhang Qian pursed her lips, looking at Xue Xingzhou thoughtfully.
"What is it? Do you think it’s inappropriate?"
Zhang Qian shook her head. "No, it’s not that. I’m just really envious of the bond you two have as siblings."
Xue Xingzhou smiled. ’In my last life, I didn’t have any siblings. Only after being reborn did I get to experience this feeling. I’ve learned that besides your parents, there are other people in this world willing to give you their all—your siblings. But I also know that not all siblings are like this. I’m just one of the lucky ones.’
Xue Xingzhou put his arm around Zhang Qian’s shoulders to comfort her. "Yue’er is my sister, which makes her your sister, too. Hasn’t she been good to you?"
Zhang Qian said, "She’s wonderful. That’s why I’m so envious. It just makes me think of my own... sibling. Anyway, forget it. I don’t want to talk about it."
"Come on, cheer up. Didn’t you say you’d never lived in an apartment building before? Well, now’s your chance. Once we get the keys, you can decorate it in any style you want. It’ll be all up to you."
Zhang Qian’s face lit up. "Really?"
Xue Xingzhou nodded. "What a question. When do I ever not do what you want?"
Zhang Qian smiled. "That’s true."
When Xue Yue got back, she found He Lang leaning against the headboard, waiting for her. "Are the kids asleep?"
He Lang nodded. "Did your brother accept it?"
Xue Yue chuckled. "I didn’t even have to persuade him; he accepted it right away. You know my brother. He never stands on ceremony."
"As long as he took it, that’s what matters. My brother-in-law is no ordinary man. I need to stay on his good side, or he might lecture me again. To be honest, I’m still a little afraid of him scolding me. I wouldn’t even dare to breathe."
Xue Yue couldn’t help but laugh. "When has my brother ever lectured you? Don’t make things up."
"That time you got injured. But he was right to scold me. Good thing it was just a scolding. If it came to blows, I’d be no match for him. Hey, honey, if your brother and I ever got into a fight, whose side would you be on?"
Xue Yue actually gave it some thought before declaring solemnly to He Lang, "I’d help you."
He Lang was a little touched. "You’d really help me?"
Xue Yue nodded. "My brother can take down a wild boar. You’re no match for him. What if he accidentally killed you? Of course I’d have to help you. Otherwise, who would earn money to support me and the kids?"
He Lang was completely stunned. "So my only purpose is to earn money?"
Xue Yue gave him a sidelong glance. "What else?"
He Lang gritted his teeth, his chest heaving. He hopped off the bed barefoot, strode over to Xue Yue, swept her up into his arms, and carried her toward the bed.
Xue Yue slapped his arm. "Hey, what are you doing? I haven’t even showered yet."
"It’s fine. I don’t mind."
"He Lang—"
He Lang had to prove, with his actions, that he was good for more than just earning money.
The next day, Xue Yue almost overslept and had to rush to work in a panic.
Ding Ruzhi watched as Xue Yue hopped off her motorcycle and hurried inside.
As Xue Yue passed her, she met Ding Ruzhi’s teasing gaze and asked, "What are you staring at?"
Ding Ruzhi looked Xue Yue up and down and clucked her tongue. "TSK TSK TSK. I can tell you’re being well-fed."
Xue Yue shot her a look. "Is that really something a young lady like you should be saying?"
Ding Ruzhi let out a snort of laughter and linked her arm with Xue Yue’s. "Sister Xue."
Hearing Ding Ruzhi’s overly sweet, wheedling tone, Xue Yue couldn’t help but get goosebumps. She pushed her away. "Talk normally. Don’t you see where we are?"
Ding Ruzhi wasn’t the least bit annoyed at being pushed away. Instead, she leaned in close again and whispered, "Sister Xue, does your husband have any younger brothers? Around my age?"
Xue Yue looked at her. "Why do you ask?"
Ding Ruzhi stood up straight and lifted her chin with a haughty air. "Set me up, of course."
Xue Yue rolled her eyes and walked past her into the office.
Ding Ruzhi hurried to catch up. "Hey, Sister Xue, you didn’t answer me! Does he or not?"
Xue Yue tossed over her shoulder, "No younger brothers. He has an older one, want him?"
Ding Ruzhi paused. "An older brother?"
While she was still processing that, Xue Yue had already walked into the office and sat down at her desk.
Ding Ruzhi followed her in, gave Xue Yue a strange look, and went back to her own desk.
At lunchtime, Xue Yue had just stepped out of the office when Ding Ruzhi caught up with her.
"Hey, that older brother you mentioned this morning... how old is he? Is he as handsome as your husband?"
Xue Yue gave Ding Ruzhi a complicated look. "Are you really that desperate? A catch like you shouldn’t have any trouble. Why don’t you try looking for someone here at work?"
Ding Ruzhi pouted. "There’s not a single good-looking guy in our whole department. I’ve already looked."
Xue Yue laughed. "You really are getting desperate. Ready to get married already?"
Ding Ruzhi shook her head. "It’s not me, it’s my mom... Ugh, stop changing the subject. What’s the deal with this older brother?"
Xue Yue chuckled. "I was just teasing you. My husband’s brother is almost fifty. And he doesn’t have any younger brothers, so I can’t help you there."
Ding Ruzhi looked disappointed. "Oh, okay. I guess I’ll just have to be a good girl and go on those blind dates then."
"Blind dates?"
Ding Ruzhi nodded. "My mom is dead set on me finding a boyfriend this year, getting married next year, and having a baby the year after that."
Xue Yue assumed she was just joking and tried to console her. "Well, blind dates are one way to meet people. You never know, you might actually meet someone you like."
Ding Ruzhi sighed, clearly not holding out much hope.
