Chapter 374 - 373: When Rivals in Love Meet, Their Eyes Burn with Jealousy
Xue Yue had also heard that Liu Hongxing wasn’t sick. She couldn’t quite put a finger on how she felt about it, so she just smiled.
But when her father said they were going back tomorrow, Xue Yue still thought the two families should get together that evening for a farewell dinner.
However, Zheng Guofeng’s sudden appearance shattered the atmosphere.
"Oh, you’re all here. I came over to see Tun Tun."
Zheng Guofeng walked in, holding a new puzzle he had bought for Tun Tun.
Zhang Qian quickly stood up. "Dad, have you eaten? We haven’t started yet. Why don’t you join us?"
Zheng Guofeng smiled. "Not yet. Looks like I came at the perfect time."
Then he looked at Xue Yue and her husband. "You two came over as well?"
Xue Yue and He Lang stood up. "Uncle Zheng."
From the moment Zheng Guofeng walked in, Xue Changlin had been staring at him, radiating a cold aura. Beside him, a confused Liu Hongxing glanced at her husband.
Zheng Guofeng looked over, and the moment he saw Xue Changlin, his eyes narrowed.
Xue Yue, tensing up, clenched her fists and made the introduction. "Uncle Zheng, this is my father."
"Zhou Lin?"
Zheng Guofeng called out the name in astonishment.
Everyone turned at the sound. Those who were in the dark, like Liu Hongxing and Xue Xingjun, looked completely baffled, not knowing who this "Zhou Lin" was. Those who knew the truth, like Xue Yue and her brother, remained silent.
Xue Changlin sat motionless, his expression indifferent. "It is I, Young Master Zheng. It’s been a long time. I’m surprised you still remember my name."
Liu Hongxing whipped her head around to look at Xue Changlin, whose eyes were fixed on Zheng Guofeng.
Zheng Guofeng looked at them. Xue Yue had just said Zhou Lin was her father, which meant Wanyi—
"So it was you?" Zheng Guofeng’s voice was filled with disbelief.
Zheng Guofeng had never dared to ask about Li Wan Yi’s life after she married. He felt the more he knew, the more it would hurt. Things were already set in stone, and besides, she was no longer alive. He knew the man was Xue Yue’s father, but he never, ever imagined it would be Zhou Lin, a servant of the Li Family.
In an instant, many things clicked into place in Zheng Guofeng’s mind. But with understanding came a surge of fury.
He strode toward Xue Changlin, grabbed him by the collar, and hauled him to his feet.
Seeing this, Liu Hongxing shouted at Zheng Guofeng, "Who are you? Do we know you? What do you think you’re doing?"
Zheng Guofeng ignored Liu Hongxing. His fist tightened as he stared daggers at Xue Changlin. "It was you. Was what happened back then all your scheme? Otherwise, how could Wanyi have married someone like you? Are you even worthy of her?"
Xue Changlin looked at Zheng Guofeng, his face expressionless. Then, a slow smile crept onto his lips as he spoke. "Worthy or not, Li Wan Yi was my wife. You, on the other hand, were her social equal. Didn’t you abandon her all the same?"
Zheng Guofeng roared, "That was between Wanyi and me! A servant like you has no right to interfere!"
Xue Changlin laughed again. "Are you sure I have no right? I was Li Wan Yi’s husband. We shared a bed. We had children together. Who, exactly, is the one with no right?"
THUD! Zheng Guofeng’s punch sent Xue Changlin sprawling to the floor.
"You shameless bastard."
"Dad," Xue Yue said, looking worriedly at Xue Changlin.
Liu Hongxing was completely stunned, just staring blankly at them.
Knocked to the ground, Xue Changlin didn’t get angry. He was still smiling.
"Young Master Zheng, your skills aren’t what they used to be. It seems you’ve gotten old, too."
Zheng Guofeng lunged to hit him again but was pulled back by Xue Xingzhou.
"Dad, the children are here."
Zheng Guofeng glanced at Tun Tun and saw the boy staring at him with wide, round eyes. Zheng Guofeng’s gaze froze, and he finally lowered his hands.
"Zhou Lin, I truly never thought it would be you. What on earth did you do to her back then? How can you face Wanyi? How can you face the Li Family?"
Xue Changlin sneered. "That’s right, it was me. Li Wan Yi married me of her own free will. What do I have to be sorry for? Besides, it’s not like you’re some saint. Young Master Zheng, we’re two of a kind, but you’re even worse than me. At least I was her legal husband. You’re just an ex."
If she hadn’t heard it with her own ears, Xue Yue would never have imagined such harsh words could come from her father’s mouth. The image she’d always had of him as an honest, down-to-earth man suddenly shattered.
"You son of a bitch." Zheng Guofeng charged forward again.
"If you’re going to fight, take it outside. Not here," Xue Xingzhou said coldly.
Zheng Guofeng froze. He shot a sidelong glance at Xue Changlin and said in a cold voice, "If you’re a man, you’ll have the guts to follow me outside." With that, he strode out.
Sure enough, Xue Changlin got to his feet.
Liu Hongxing finally snapped out of it and grabbed Xue Changlin’s arm. "Honey!"
Xue Changlin patted the back of her hand. "It’s fine."
And with that, Xue Changlin followed him out.
"Big Brother, will they be okay?" Xue Yue was genuinely worried. Neither of them seemed to be in their right mind.
Xue Xingzhou sat back down. "Don’t worry about it. Dad knows what he’s doing."
’I really didn’t expect Zheng Guofeng to show up,’ Xue Yue thought. ’When these two meet, it’s a classic case of sparks flying between old love rivals. And for some reason, Dad is acting like a completely different person. After hearing the things he said, it’s no wonder Uncle Zheng wanted to hit him. But I’m still so worried. They’re both getting on in years. What if one of them gets seriously hurt?’
"Let’s eat. Don’t mind them." Xue Xingzhou picked up his chopsticks.
Xue Xingjun’s mood was now very complicated, and he had lost his appetite.
Liu Hongxing didn’t pick up her chopsticks either. She couldn’t make sense of it. ’Why would these two men have a grudge against each other? And from the sound of it, it was about Xue Yue’s mother.’
When the two men returned, Xue Changlin had a dark bruise by the corner of his eye and was walking a little strangely. Zheng Guofeng’s lip was swollen and red.
Xue Yue frowned at the sight.
Zheng Guofeng picked up the puzzle from the floor and handed it to Tun Tun. "This is from Grandpa. Grandpa’s leaving now. I’ll come see you again in a few days."
Tun Tun grabbed Zheng Guofeng’s hand. "Grandpa, is your face okay?"
Zheng Guofeng patted his head. "Grandpa’s fine."
Although Xue Changlin looked more seriously injured than Zheng Guofeng, his mood was clearly much better.
Xue Yue looked at him, finding the situation very strange.
Everyone looked at each other, not quite understanding what was going on.
Xue Changlin sat down and picked up his chopsticks. "Let’s eat."
The rest of the meal was a muddled affair. After they finished, Xue Yue pulled Xue Changlin along on the walk home.
The whole way, she chided him nonstop. "What is wrong with you? Why did you provoke Uncle Zheng? You even got hit. Are you satisfied now?"
"At your age, still getting into fights. You two are really something else."
Xue Changlin didn’t say anything, just listened to Xue Yue’s nagging lecture, feeling quite happy inside.
"I was prepared for this before I came."
"What?" Xue Yue looked at her father in surprise.
Xue Changlin smiled. "I said I was prepared to see him before I came to Beijing City."
"You wanted to see Uncle Zheng?"
Xue Changlin nodded. "I wanted to see the look of surprise on his face. And sure enough, he didn’t disappoint me."
Xue Yue’s brows knitted together. She really couldn’t understand his mindset.
