Chapter 13: This Town Is a Formation
After a long while, Mei Ruoxue finally spoke: "He's gone!"
Shi Ran let out a long breath, turned her gaze to Mei Ruoxue sitting calmly at the bedside, brows slightly furrowed, white robes fluttering, candlelight flickering, dreamlike—she couldn't help but stare, and at this moment she especially wanted to recite a poem.
Mei Ruoxue glanced sideways at Shi Ran: "What are you looking at! Want to steal something of mine again?" She looked at Shi Ran's wrinkled pink dress, brows slightly furrowed: "First, clothes are off-limits! Don't get them dirty again!"
Shi Ran chuckled, waving her hand: "No no no, I couldn't possibly carry the otherworldly aura of Senior Sister, you're beautiful like a painting! It makes people feel happier the more they look! If I were Junior Brother, I'd also like Senior Sister!" Because Mei Ruoxue was too beautiful, the original host grew jealous and hateful, feeling no camaraderie with fellow sect members at all.
Mei Ruoxue hadn't expected Shi Ran to say that, she didn't even have time to feel shy, looking at her in surprise: "I think......"
But before she could finish, Ling Xiao's voice came: "This town is off, more like a huge formation. I'll go check it out later; you two be careful!"
Shi Ran was bewildered: What does "the town is off" mean, more like a huge town? Is Fine Rain Town too small? Or is it hiding other land?
Only Mei Ruoxue and Ling Xiao's voices could be heard continuing from the other side.
"... Master, strangely, this formation seems to affect only Shi Ran; for me, it feels..." Mei Ruoxue chose her words: "Completely comfortable!"
"I've seen this formation before in an ancient book," Ling Xiao mused, "but just in case, I'll go out for a while. During this time, you... and Shi Ran, try not to be alone!"
Although Mei Ruoxue knew Ling Xiao was considering the big picture, she couldn't help rolling her eyes: "I know, Master!"
Shi Ran watched master and disciple exchange Secret Sound Sigils back and forth, she began flipping through books in her mind, but even after recalling the whole original story, none of this appeared; could it be the butterfly effect from her accidental intrusion as a transmigrator?
In the original book, after Ling Xiao went to the Underworld to chase souls, he directly returned to the Floating Dream Sect, with no extra like her, so he never stopped in Fine Rain Town; it seems this place is indeed outside the book, foresight is useless here.
The other side continued: "Such a great formation either needs a great demon to preside, or a formation eye where spiritual energy gathers; if you can't find the great demon, you need to find the formation eye!" Ling Xiao stared at the endless fine rain outside the window, furrowing his brows: "I wonder what kind of formation eye could set such a vast formation in motion!"
"Maybe it's the Snow Orchid Lake the shop assistant just mentioned?" Shi Ran interjected, "It sounds like there's a lot of spiritual energy!"
Mei Ruoxue: "How could that be? If it's the formation eye, how could that lowly shop assistant so easily tip us off?"
"Maybe he did it on purpose! After all, someone as smart as Senior Sister would instinctively deny it!" Shi Ran lightly clapped: "How does that saying go? 'The false becomes real, the real becomes false!'"
"Junior Sister! You're clearly arguing nonsense!" Mei Ruoxue was about to say more when she heard a soft laugh, quiet but she heard it; she glanced in surprise at Shi Ran, then turned toward Ling Xiao's room. Although separated by a wall, she was certain it was the voice of their stern Master.
"Alright!" Ling Xiao's voice rang out again: "Shi Ran is right; anyway, I'll go take a look first, then decide!"
"But Master..." Mei Ruoxue wanted to object, but saw Shi Ran wave her hand, footsteps slowly approaching; Mei Ruoxue snapped her fingers, her soul already vanished into the jade bottle.
Just as she vanished, the shop assistant knocked on the door: "Guest, guest, your noodles are ready!"
Noodles! Shi Ran's eyes lit up; before Mei Ruoxue could stop her, she already opened the door.
The fragrant, spicy noodles scattered a tempting aroma in the rainy night; Shi Ran really wanted to refuse, but what she said was: "Put the noodles on the table!"
Inside the bottle, Mei Ruoxue: …Glutton really delays things!
The shop assistant placed the noodles on the table, his eyes darting around; seeing no one, he bowed and retreated.
Starving, Shi Ran hastily grabbed her chopsticks, but before they reached her lips, Mei Ruoxue stopped her, her cold eyes full of disapproval: "Junior Sister, you can't eat these noodles!"
Why not?
Shi Ran dissatisfied! It's just a bowl of noodles; it won't eat people; it only gets eaten!
Shi Ran didn't speak, but careful observation would reveal her gaze beginning to scatter, as if she were about to fall asleep.
Mei Ruoxue frowned, gave Shi Ran a hard knock on the head: "Snap out of it!"
"Ouch!" Shi Ran cried out in pain: "Senior Sister, what are you doing?!"
"Look at this!" Mei Ruoxue moved aside, a bowl of maggots appeared before Shi Ran: "You'll put anything in your mouth; have your years of cultivation gone to your dog's stomach?"
"Ugh..." Shi Ran couldn't even speak, turning aside to vomit a few mouthfuls of water; what karma has she created? She hasn't been able to eat a proper meal for days straight; although the original host was at Foundation Establishment and could fast, she just can't resist wanting to eat!
"Senior Sister..." Shi Ran wailed, collapsing into Mei Ruoxue's embrace, regardless of how much she resisted, heartbroken: "I really want to eat hot pot, mala skewers, duck neck, rice noodles, and also drink... Hegemon Farewell Princess, Honey Snow Ice City, Lucky Star..."
Mei Ruoxue scrambled to catch Shi Ran: "... You... you wanting to eat and drink like this... are you a rice barrel?"
She couldn't withstand Shi Ran like this, so she went to seek help: "Get up, get up, I'm going to check on Master!"
"Senior Sister... sniff... I want to eat rice... my stomach is so hungry!"
"Master has food!" she shouted; Shi Ran finally sat up straight, Mei Ruoxue's cold gaze losing its shine, resigned: "Master has food, it's inside the Moment's Treasure Ring!"
Mei Ruoxue breezed through the wall; Shi Ran had just blinked once when Mei Ruoxue stood before her again: "Junior Sister, the Moment's Treasure Ring isn't here, and Master isn't either!"
Presumably he went to look for the formation eye; Shi Ran unwillingly pushed open the window, the rain's moisture rushed in; indeed, in the quiet rainy night, Master's tall figure was crystal clear.
Shi Ran wanted to wave, but inexplicably stopped; though she hadn't noticed while inside, now outside the game she suddenly realized the people of this town…
"What are you staring at for so long!" Mei Ruoxue said as she moved closer to look; this glance gave her a fright!
In the rainy night, the crowd still flowed ceaselessly; they held umbrellas, all identical, white base with only three drops of red, like three red camellias suddenly blooming on white paper.
"These umbrellas..." Shi Ran wondered, "Could they all have been made by the same person?"
?? Mini Theater
? Mei Ruoxue took a sip of the legendary Honey Snow Ice City milk tea; it was sweet, also carrying the fresh aroma of tea and the richness of milk.
? Not bad, delicious!
? Shi Ran smiled, handing the milk tea to Ling Xiao.
? Ling Xiao took a sip, closed his eyes and gave it to Luo Changfeng; Luo Changfeng dared not drink, is the poison really poison?
? Mei Ruoxue won't drink, give it to me!
? Yawning, the indirect kiss causing the male lead's misunderstanding—just forget it!
