Chapter 40: Capture Him, and Everything Will Be Easy
Hearing the sound, Yun Tingliao was obviously more excited than they were; he and his wheelchair trembled. His wish was simple: he hoped to create a disturbance so the demon soldiers would notice.
Wei Yuzhu turned and slapped Yun Tingliao across the face; a bright red fingerprint appeared abruptly on his handsome visage. Yun Tingliao glared angrily, but Wei Yuzhu ignored him, saying, "Didn't you say this road had no soldiers?"
But dwelling on this now is too late; heavy footsteps draw ever closer, and it sounds like there are still many demon soldiers.
Just a little more! Just a little more and they could have drawn spiritual energy into the sword, but now they can only fight desperately; that's their only chance!
Wei Yuzhu drew the Elixir-Containing Sword and said, "Shi Ran, I'll hold off the demon soldiers for a moment; you just keep running east, got it?"
Wei Yuzhu gripped the hilt nervously; the Elixir-Containing Sword had no spiritual aura swirling around it, looking dull and ordinary, but it's better than nothing!
Wei Yuzhu stood sword in hand, but saw no response from Shi Ran; she turned her head and said, "I'm not that great either—once you leave the demon realm, you'll have to..."
"Save me!" Wei Yuzhu swallowed the last two words, then shouted, "What are you doing? You're crazy!"
Only Shi Ran stood before Yun Tingliao, reaching out to touch his forehead; faint fire markings flickered there. As the night wind blew, her disheveled hair flew about—she looked less like a bewitching fairy and more like a death‑summoning female ghost!
Wei Yuzhu swallowed nervously, unable for the moment to mind the demon soldiers behind her: "You... how vast can your sea of consciousness be? Don't overreach—he's the Third Prince of the Demon Clan..."
Shi Ran certainly knew who he was, but she had already captured the Dragon Capital; could she still subdue this lone wolf?
Even though her mind buzzed now, she would never give up! This is the only bloodless way! Shi Ran wiped a trace of blood from the corner of her mouth and smiled: "No way—my lifelong wish is to gather the great demon clans for an exhibition, so forgive me!"
Shi Ran hardened her heart; her finger's blood surged more fiercely. Though Yun Tingliao struggled desperately, he could not stop the fire markings from forming. In less than half a moment he slumped his shoulders—this life, over! Wolf life, finished!
Wei Yuzhu watched helplessly as Yun Tingliao became Shi Ran's... wolf, a chill of terror rising in her heart. To dare put anything into one's sea of consciousness—this woman is truly insane!
Mission accomplished, Shi Ran swayed, caught in Wei Yuzhu's embrace. She paid it no mind, leaning against Wei Yuzhu and laughing wildly: "Now the Third Prince knows what to say, right?"
Yun Tingliao instantly gripped his wheelchair, fire markings flashing on his brow, yet he had to lower his noble head.
At the same time, Fantian gradually slowed his steps, feeling uneasy, as if some great event had occurred.
Lingxiao landed on Fantian's nose, moonlight flooding the sky, his translucent wings refracting seven‑colored light: "This is Wandering Mountain?!"
"Yes!" Fantian said, gazing at the towering peak before him, which seemed to press the entire sky tight against its rugged ridgeline.
A mosquito and a wolf bowed their heads deeply, straining to look up; under the moonlight this massive loomed like a great barrier, supporting the demon realm's heavens while severing the sole link between demons and humans.
Lingxiao remained silent, staring at the nearby Wandering Mountain, never expecting that by mistake he had stumbled upon the demon clan's holy land—Wandering Mountain!
Legends say Wandering Mountain holds the demon clan's supreme treasure, guarded by wandering demons and the four great demon‑clan elders; he very much wanted to see it! Lingxiao rubbed his antennae.
"You… really aren't preparing to become something else?" Fantian stared at the tiny mosquito perched on his nose, wolf eyes struggling to focus: "You like this, I'm easy on the eyes!"
"Do you think he doesn't want to change form? Rather, his spiritual energy can only sustain this tiny state," Lingxiao sighed, beating his wings into Fantian's ear: "Is this okay?"
"Still a bit uncomfortable, but better than before," Fantian twitched his ears: "You'd better hide well—I'm about to charge!"
Fantian's mission this time is to lure away the demon realm's White Wolf Clan, drawing them as far as possible, then transform into a dragon and soar the skies to escape the demon realm; meanwhile Shi Ran and Wei Yuzhu will abduct Yun Tingliao via another small path, with the agreed rendezvous at Jiao Lake Village.
But Fantian now feels extremely uneasy, as if his home had been burgled.
Yet since they've come to Wandering Mountain, should they leave a mark? Fantian approached the boundary stone, lifted his leg to leave his scent, then inwardly scolded himself: a noble dragon clan yet he must follow a wolf's nature—he's really getting ahead of himself.
Hardly had he lowered his wolf leg when a delighted voice rang out: "Third brother!"
Fantian shuddered, slowly turning; a white wolf stood behind him, night deep, the crescent moon like a hook above the demon realm—no stars, only that single cold moon pouring silver light silently.
That white wolf stood still, as if condensed from ancient glacial ice into a soul, or as if moonlight itself had coalesced into a living spirit.
Its silken fur absorbed the clear glow, flowing like molten silver, each hair refracting the moon's cold brilliance. Most striking were its eyes—under the moonlight they burned like twin sapphire flames, sharp, icy, yet deep down smoldering with an indescribable joy.
"Third brother!" the white wolf stepped forward: "You… you're actually healed! Drunken Spring Wind has been lifted?! Wonderful!"
Fantian's fur bristled instantly—could this white wolf be the demon clan's little princess?! His scent is off; he'll give himself away!
"Third brother?" Yun Tinghan approached suspiciously a step, his azure eyes like the Jade Lake of Heavenly Palace: "Why aren't you speaking? Are you happy‑stupid?"
Fantian had a moment of daze—why did he feel déjà vu? Had he once, a thousand years ago, felt his heart stir for a wolf…
No, no! Fantian shook his head firmly; his thousands of years have been for one person only, never a wolf.
The mosquito Lingxiao, perched in Fantian's ear, nearly got shaken loose: "What are you doing! Not running, waiting for her to catch you?"
Seeing Yun Tingliao's strange behavior, Yun Tinghan drew close, concerned: "Third brother, what's wrong? Is your head hurting?"
But as they drew nearer, the scent at his nose was utterly off; Yun Tinghan's gaze shifted, and he said coldly, "You're not my third brother! Who are you?!"
Fantian had wanted to hold out a bit longer, but since Yun Tinghan had seen through him, he could only transform, becoming a black dragon floating above the clouds.
"Ah! Ah!" Yun Tinghan kicked in rage: "You damned loach, daring to impersonate my handsome, elegant third brother—get down, get down! I'll strip your skin and pull your tendons!"
Too terrifying—just too terrifying!! Fantian's dragon head poked out from the clouds; the last one who dared say that was Nezha! "You're far too domineering!"
