Chapter 87: Suppressing Chu Yin

~7 min read 1,316 words

Chu Yin is an ancient giant beast, with a human face and snake body, entirely scarlet, stretching a thousand li in length; legend says it dwells on Bell Mountain, neither eating nor drinking, never sleeping nor resting, and in the war of gods and demons it crashed into Xuwei Shan, its body and soul both destroyed.

I never expected it to actually be in deep slumber beneath the deep snow of this secret realm; the snow and ice covered its fiery blaze, the seven-colored fire lotus can still nourish its soul; if they hadn't happened to fall down, it could still remain here for another thousand years.

"What should we do?" Wei Yuzhu lowered her voice and asked Xiao Muyu beside her, "Let's join forces and kill it!"

Xiao Muyu shook his head: "With just the four of us, we probably aren't enough to even fill a tooth gap of Chu Yin!"

"What should we do then?" Wei Yuzhu frowned, "Do we have to keep waiting?! If it wakes up, none of us can escape!"

Mei Ruoxue's brows knitted tightly as she scanned the surroundings; beneath the abyss, the ice and snow hung suspended, and the surrounding stone walls faintly revealed ancient runes, dim and lightless yet exuding a mysterious aura.

She felt a surge of joy, tugged at Gu Yusheng's sleeve to signal him to look; Gu Yusheng cautiously took a few steps forward, then reached out to touch the runes, which were covered with tiny lightning strikes; as soon as he extended his hand, he received a small warning shock from the lightning.

"Is this a seal?" Wei Yuzhu exclaimed delightedly, "Then we don't have to fear it, right?" She gazed at the seven-colored fire lotus hovering in midair and lunged to grab it, but Xiao Muyu pulled her back again.

"You..." Wei Yuzhu grabbed the corner of her clothes, pouted, "How come the disciples of the Floating Dream Sect are so timid?"

Xiao Muyu didn't mind; instead he said, "Although this seal still has power, it has existed for a long time, and I fear its effect may be insufficient—caution is warranted."

Wei Yuzhu said nothing, quickly stepped forward to touch the ancient characters, but felt no response; this piece of seal—had failed.

Xiao Muyu continued to explain, "This is an ancient demon‑suppressing seal from antiquity; its age is great, its power insufficient, so we should still be careful."

The four stared at each other, shocked; if this is truly the case, they still cannot get out.

Xiao Muyu pondered for a moment, then said, "Perhaps we don't need to clash head‑on; since there is a seal, it shows someone once suppressed it. If we can find the way to activate the seal, perhaps we can reseal it again."

"But the seal is incomplete—what should we do?" Mei Ruoxue pointed to several broken lines on the rock wall, worried.

"Not necessarily!" Gu Yusheng, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke. He crouched down, his fingertips lightly touching the ground, and a faint spiritual light flowed from his palm, spreading along the cracks in the floor.

"There are remnants of spiritual veins underground; the core of the seal may still be operating, only its strength is weak."

Xiao Muyu's eyes lit up: "Yusheng, can you sense the direction of the spiritual veins?"

Gu Yusheng nodded, closed his eyes to concentrate for a moment, then pointed toward the depths of the abyss: "Over there, the spiritual energy is the strongest!"

The three followed the direction he indicated and looked; deep within the ice‑covered abyss, a faint scarlet glow could be seen, as if something were slowly throbbing.

"Is that Chu Yin's heart?!" Wei Yuzhu gasped in shock.

"No, that is the core of the seal!" Xiao Muyu gripped his sword tightly, his voice low: "We must go there and reactivate the seal."

Wei Yuzhu clenched her fists: "But what if we wake it—"

"There's no retreat left!" Xiao Muyu cut her off, eyes firm: "While it is still asleep, this is our only chance."

The four held their breath, focused, and cautiously advanced toward the red light; with each step, the ice and snow beneath their feet emitted a faint cracking sound, as if the slumbering giant beast might awaken at any moment.

In the depths of the cold pool stood an ancient stone platform embedded in the ice layer; its surface was covered with intricate runes, and at its center hovered a crimson crystal, its light flickering on and off like breathing.

"That's it!"

Gu Yusheng hurried forward, placed his hand on the platform, and poured spiritual power into it continuously; the runes on the platform gradually lit up, but the light remained weak.

These spiritual powers are clearly insufficient to fully activate the demon‑suppressing seal; Gu Yusheng gritted his teeth: "We still need more spiritual power!"

Xiao Muyu unhesitatingly placed his palm on the platform; Mei Ruoxue and Wei Yuzhu followed closely, each occupying one side of the platform. Their spiritual powers converged, the runes' glow grew stronger, and the throbbing of the crimson crystal quickened.

However, at that very moment, the entire abyss suddenly began to tremble!

"Oh no!" Gu Yusheng's face changed drastically: "It's about to wake up!"

The ice beneath their feet cracked inch by inch; a low, deep roar came from not far away, as if emanating from the land itself, shaking their eardrums painfully; Chu Yin's massive body slowly twisted, its scarlet scales scraping against the ice walls, emitting a piercing sound.

Gu Yusheng felt Chu Yin drawing nearer and nearer; he did not turn back, but continued to channel spiritual power, while Mei Ruoxue opposite him noticed that Chu Yin's scarlet eyes were fixed dead‑on on Gu Yusheng.

Seeing Chu Yin's scarlet eyes gathering fire, Mei Ruoxue's heart was torn; she abandoned half of her spiritual power output from the platform, leapt a few times to Gu Yusheng's side, her palm wind filled with cold ice, and shot toward Chu Yin.

At the same time, Chu Yin launched an attack, spewing flames from its eyes; Gu Yusheng grabbed Mei Ruoxue, the flames struck him directly, his breath stalled, and a mouthful of blood spurted onto the platform.

"Junior brother!"

"Gu junior brother!"

"Ah Sheng!!!"

The other three were grief‑stricken; Xiao Muyu intensified his spiritual input, his voice steady: "Everyone, don't stop; Xue, come back first!"

Mei Ruoxue gritted her teeth, lightly kissed Gu Yusheng's cheek, "Hold on, I'm coming!"

Gu Yusheng endured the pain and smiled: "Don't worry, I'm fine!"

Mei Ruoxue returned to her position; Xiao Muyu shouted sternly: "Quick, pour in all spiritual power!"

The four exerted themselves to the utmost; spiritual power surged in like a flood, the runes' light burst forth, turning into a golden chain that shot toward Chu Yin and wrapped around it.

Chu Yin kept twisting its body, trying to seize the moment to attack someone, but the golden chain, as if equipped with a tracker, could not be evaded no matter how it dodged.

The instant the golden chain wrapped around Chu Yin, it let out an angry roar; its huge serpentine body thrashed wildly, the chain pulled straight, actually emitting a creaking sound as if it could not bear the weight.

"Hold... on!" Xiao Muyu's mouth corner trickled with blood as he struggled to encourage everyone; he pressed down firmly on the platform, and because Gu Yusheng was injured, he effectively had to supply spiritual power for two people, which was extremely taxing.

Fortunately, just as the chain was about to snap, the crimson crystal suddenly burst into dazzling light, and an ancient, solemn voice echoed in the abyss.

"Zhen—!"

In that instant, countless runes flew out from the stone platform, like stars covering the sky, enveloping Chu Yin; its movements gradually slowed, the reluctance flickered in its scarlet eyes, and finally it slowly closed its eyes.
