Chapter 4: Chapter Four: Li Yan
"Oh? Sending money? Where is it? How come I don't see anything?"
Ye Yun still has a cluelessly cute expression.
Li Yan stared in shock at the man in front of her who called himself "old man," quickly dismissed her earlier thoughts, and wondered whether live streams could receive gifts.
How could this crazy Taoist possibly have any great skill? Whatever the earlier ones said, never mind, I won't think about it too much.
Li Yan waved the phone in her hand at Ye Yun.
"It's right here; many people are sending you gifts, saying they're topping me up for you."
"Huh? Do I look stupid? This little metal box is money? Selling this thing wouldn't even fetch a few coins, right?"
Li Yan at this point was almost a stone statue, her gaze at Ye Yun also a bit dazed, thinking.
"If you're not stupid, does that make me stupid? From the moment we met I thought you were a goof, talking to a cat, and now you don't even recognize a phone."
"That's not right; what do you mean selling my phone is worth only a few coins? This is a brand of fruit that just launched this year, really a goof."
Although she thought that inside, Li Yan still patiently explained the whole sequence, recounting everything from going up the mountain to now, finally making the crazy Taoist understand a bit.
In Ye Yun's understanding, money entered the little metal box in some form, and could be taken out when needed; during this, he even asked whether only money could be placed inside, or if other things were prohibited.
Li Yan snapped back, firmly rejecting his notion.
"Tch, I thought it was a storage tool, turns out it can only hold money, so it's of no use to old man."
The atmosphere in the live room became livelier: "All that talk and it turns out there's no money."
"This Taoist is so interesting, give us your WeChat, give us your address."
"Can the folks upstairs restrain him? He's just a bit handsome, I think I'm not bad either, why don't you look at me!"
"Um… am I the only one still following Yun Changshan?"
"And me, me—at first I didn't believe it, never expected Yun Changshan to show up, my god."
"Who said before that all the hosts hired actors? Step forward—can Yun Changshan be hired among actors?"
The chat in the live room was blazing, while on the other side Yun Changshan was still tidying his room; his eyes seemed to shine like a hundred‑watt bulb, and he was overjoyed, for the value of those items was indeed quite high.
For Yun Changshan, that was a priceless treasure; no amount of money could replace it.
Oblivious, Ye Yun kept staring at the "metal box," after all it was a novelty to him.
"Old man won't believe it—if I can't figure out this metal box today, wouldn't my millennia be wasted?"
Li Yan saw the crazy Taoist stare seriously at her phone, a hint of helplessness on her face.
"Does this guy have a problem with his head? Why keep staring at my phone? Could it be… I'm too pretty? He's embarrassed to look at me directly, so he keeps staring at my phone."
"Oh ho ho ho! It must be like that—my beauty has nowhere to be placed, but looking closely at this Taoist, he looks pretty good, white and clean, though I'm not sure about his figure…"
Li Yan stared at Ye Yun with a dazed gaze, as if to devour him; luckily Ye Yun was busy studying the phone and didn't have time to look at this silly woman.
The two walked and talked; through Li Yan, Ye Yun learned a bit about the outside world, and discovered that the "metal box" he called was actually a phone, an everyday item in modern society, capable of conversing with people far across the globe and even seeing them.
These things were somewhat hard for Ye Yun to digest at once; after all, it had been ages since he last descended the mountain, and Li Yan's explanations were not only numerous but intricate—just the phone's usage made Ye Yun dizzy, let alone other things.
But Li Yan didn't have as many troubles as Ye Yun; along the way, Ye Yun kept talking to her about phone usage and the current state of society, with question after question, completely shedding the aloof Taoist image earlier, and now Li Yan was even more convinced that the man in front of her was a goof.
Yet within that goofiness there was a hint of handsomeness, making Li Yan's heart flutter like a startled deer, the more she thought, the faster the little deer ran, and by the end her face was flushed.
The viewers in the live room quickly noticed Li Yan's change: "No way, boss, you're blushing already? We're old fans, what do we do if you get excited! *whimper*"
"Is it really that extreme, folks upstairs? Maybe the host just has… altitude sickness? Who says blushing always means a crush!"
"Damn, it's over—every silly woman gets a crush, and I didn't even… it's over, over."
"No, host, let go of that Taoist, let me have him, Taoist brother, I can!"
"I said can you all restrain yourselves, be rational, okay? I'm laying it out—Taoist brother is mine, we both have proof!"
"Bullshit, our Taoist brother—just by looking, you can tell he's the kind who doesn't partake in worldly affairs."
Man, it's only been a short time and Ye Yun's already gone viral online, a huge blaze, all because of Sun Liwen's big push.
It exposed Ye Yun to the public eye, causing an instant explosion, and his delicate looks gave him a massive fan effect.
"I still like that bragging little Taoist from earlier; I have to say he looked insanely handsome, I'm in love."
The crowd in the live room gradually echoed that sentiment; although many things had been verified, they still preferred the Taoist they first saw.
After all, the current Ye Yun, with his big eyes glued to the phone screen, makes the viewers think this Taoist is a bit simple, far from the earlier unruly demeanor.
The two soon reached the foot of the mountain; Ye Yun looked at the scenery, genuinely bewildered, since it differed greatly from what he saw last time he descended, and he bombarded Li Yan with questions like a barrage of artillery.
"What are those things that run so fast on the road? Why do they emit smoke? Why are the houses all clustered together? How do people get out like this? And why are there signs in the sky with people on them? Are they sealed inside?... No, are you even listening to me?"
Man, at this point Li Yan wanted to seal that goof's mouth—was his mouth rented? He suddenly asked so many questions. How long has he been off the mountain? Hasn't he seen cars, buildings, billboards? Those things should have existed when he was born, yet his questions sound like someone who hasn't left home in centuries.
Oh god, save this pretty girl! If I hadn't promised to bring him down the mountain, I wouldn't have come down with him—this guy must've been a monk in a past life!
