Chapter 9: Demon God Scripture
“Huh—”
The ambient magical energy continued to surge into the wind blade, as if a hundred meters were not its limit.
Lin Yu snapped back to his senses, quickly closed his mouth, halted the incantation, and reached out toward the terrifying wind blade.
In an instant, the hundred-meter-long wind blade collapsed downward, transforming into a torrent of magical energy that rushed furiously into Lin Yu’s body.
Once all the magical energy forming the wind blade had been absorbed, Lin Yu finally exhaled in relief.
“Even after being downgraded, it’s still this extreme...”
“On the bright side, at least you can now cast magic.”
Vlamé dismissed the barrier and smiled: “Now, as long as you learn to suppress your magical affinity, you’ll be able to use magic like any ordinary mage.”
“That’s true!” Lin Yu regained his enthusiasm.
Just as he was about to ask about other spells, he suddenly noticed Vlamé’s gaze had grown unnaturally eager.
After a moment’s thought, Lin Yu understood her intent and shook his head with a smile: “I know what you’re thinking—no chance.”
“My entry into this world was the result of a compromise with the world itself. As the price of successfully entering here, I cannot leave this forest, let alone kill the Demon King for you.”
The eagerness in Vlamé’s eyes faded slightly, replaced by disappointment.
So that’s why—he never leaves here. She had thought Lin Yu stayed out of fear that his overwhelming power might trigger catastrophic natural disasters with every movement...
Lin Yu smiled: “Of course, if you can lure the Demon King here, I wouldn’t mind taking care of him for you.”
Vlamé’s eyes lit up briefly, then she sighed: “To be honest, I’d love to do that—but this forest lies on the eastern border of the Unified Empire’s central region. If I lure the Demon King here, I’d be abandoning all life in the entire north.”
Lin Yu shrugged: “Then there’s nothing to be done~”
Vlamé shook her head and smiled: “It’s fine. At least now I know even the Demon King can’t cross this forest. That’s good news, isn’t it?”
Four months later, the quiet two-story pavilion in the forest had become a stone fortress spanning over a thousand square meters.
The massive pit, over a hundred meters in diameter in front of the fortress, had been filled with clear water and turned into a lake.
By the lakeshore, a solitary horned beast, over thirty-five meters long and covered in earth-toned scales, lay sprawled, dozing while savoring the sensation of magical energy flooding into its body.
On top of the beast’s head, a black-robed boy sat cross-legged on the smooth, warm scales, his right hand gripping the Sacred Scripture as he continuously communicated with the ambient magical energy.
As the surrounding magical particles surged joyfully, lines of text gradually appeared on the blank pages of the Sacred Scripture.
Unlike the magical runes of this world, these characters were square, fully formed, dignified and steady—simple Chinese characters Lin Yu had brought from another world.
After discovering how extraordinarily exaggerated magic manifested in Lin Yu, Vlamé shifted her teaching approach, abandoning practice and instead starting from theory, first helping Lin Yu understand the fundamental principles of magic.
Thanks to Vlamé, Lin Yu was exposed from the very beginning to the deepest, most essential knowledge of magic.
This unique teaching method made his initial learning difficult.
But after passing through that period, Lin Yu’s magical proficiency began to surge forward rapidly.
Today, he had not only learned how to restrain his spiritual energy and magical energy, but also, using the magical knowledge in his mind as a medium, reverse-engineered his own Sacred Scripture spells based on the Scripture’s runes.
Soon, Lin Yu opened his eyes and smiled at the Sacred Scripture before him, now filled with Chinese characters.
“Another page inscribed!”
Now his Sacred Scripture had exactly thirteen pages—closer than ever to his grand goal of filling it entirely!
“Another new spell?”
A curious voice came from below.
Lin Yu turned to see a figure leap up and settle beside him, eagerly peering at the pages.
“Let me see... hmm, it’s a reference to Zhuangzi and Liezi. What’s the incantation and effect?”
“Liezi rides the wind, molts without trace, floats on emptiness, borrows shadows.”
“Amazing!”
Vlamé uttered an earnest compliment.
Lin Yu smiled and shook his head: “It’s not me who’s amazing—it’s the goddess who gave me this Scripture.”
“These Sacred Scripture spells are nominally mine, but in truth, I merely transplanted stories from my past life and roughly outlined their magical direction. I didn’t even know exactly what spells would emerge.”
“Take this spell, for example. All other effects are my doing—but this elemental transformation into a wind blade? Even I, its creator, don’t understand its mechanism.”
Vlamé said: “That’s the power inherent in the Sacred Scripture itself.”
Lin Yu nodded, though internally he grumbled.
The Scripture was indeed convenient for creating spells, but this requirement to hide magic within stories was utterly unnecessary.
If he hadn’t remembered myths from his past life, it would’ve taken him ten times longer to inscribe just one page.
“This Destruction Scripture now has thirteen pages—barely a half-finished product.”
Vlamé smiled: “How about it? Should I help you spread the word?”
Lin Yu rolled his eyes: “Destruction Scripture? I don’t recall ever naming it that.”
Vlamé said nothing, simply flipped open the first few pages of the Scripture.
“The [Gonggong Strikes the Pillar], which can tear the earth and shake mountains; the [Haban Descends], which raises air temperature over vast areas, turning the land into scorched wastelands; the [Nine Heavenly Gale Winds], which summons dozens of hundred-meter hurricanes capable of obliterating a small nation...”
“Look at these spells yourself. A Scripture containing such magic—isn’t it clearly a Destruction Scripture?”
Lin Yu coughed twice and explained: “Don’t blame me—it’s the Scripture’s fault. I’m just a carrier of myths. These large-scale spells came from the Scripture itself.”
And “Destruction Scripture” sounds terrible!
Even if a name must be chosen, shouldn’t it at least be the Demon God Scripture?
Hmm, the Demon God of Dimensions!
Lin Yu thought this to himself, then smiled outwardly: “As for spreading the word—no need. I don’t need worship, and this Scripture isn’t written in the Common Tongue. The entire world probably has only you who can read it...”
“That’s true.”
Vlamé nodded with a smile on her face, but her eyes held no warmth.
After staying here four months, she had finally decided to leave this forest for good.
The only problem: how to tell Lin Yu.
As Vlamé hesitated, Lin Yu glanced at her, suddenly tossed the Scripture toward her, stretched lazily, and grinned: “Before you leave, do me one last favor.”
“Go find me another Scripture. I’ll give you this one for protection!”
Vlamé instinctively caught the Scripture, staring at Lin Yu in surprise.
Lin Yu sighed: “Pity we didn’t have more time—if we had, there’d be even more pages.”
Vlamé lowered her head, gazing at the Scripture in her hands:
“...When did you figure it out?”
“Since you started traveling frequently last month.”
Looking at the silent Vlamé, Lin Yu smiled faintly: “Don’t worry—I’ve long expected this day.”
“Human life is finite. You have grand ideals to change the world—you can’t stay in this forest forever.”
“Though I’d love to force you to stay, that would mean losing a friend I’ve worked so hard to gain...”
Vlamé’s fingers gently traced the relief on the cover, then her lips curved upward. She lifted her head, eyes sparkling as she looked at him: “I knew I couldn’t fool you.”
“Of course not!”
Lin Yu smiled: “How long do you think we’ve been together?”
Hearing this, Vlamé froze again, then softly laughed: “Lin, as an immortal being like me, you’re nothing like my stubborn, prickly elf teacher!”
