Chapter 3: Oath Knight

~10 min read 1,869 words

“This is not a peaceful world.”

No manual was needed—the corpses along the road and the mass graves on either side were enough to tell you everything.

When entering the city and being extorted for bribes, Li En smiled along, but it felt deeply unnatural.

While being mocked as a “degenerated mongrel,” the guard casually grabbed a handful of goods from the front cart, his greedy grin unhidden. What made him even more uneasy was how the onlookers around him wore expressions of utter normalcy—as if this were only right.

“Is it truly right just because it’s always been this way?”

But he knew that an arm could not twist against a giant mouth.

He once again became a “chameleon,” trying to blend into the rules of this new world.

It was easy—just pretend to be blind, use your keen sense of smell to avoid trouble, and protect yourself well enough.

Thus, he witnessed the city’s tragic, cheap prostitutes, children with severed legs, and a killer dragging a blood-dripping tail behind him.

He lied—he had seen the serial killer the officer spoke of, yet he had only cowered in the shadows.

“No, this is not right.”

Only when alone, facing Li Ensu in the mirror, would he speak the truth.

“Yes, this is wrong—black is black, white is white. To allow evil is itself evil!”

At that moment, the same voice echoed within his body, and his mutterings were answered by an unknown presence.

“Sincleave!”

Silver blade-light tore through the sky, and the blade of judgment unfolded space.

The roar that burst forth came not only from ancient spirits, but from the young man forced to smile endlessly.

“Justice admits no compromise!”

The blade of the ancient Oath Knight shattered the cramped space; the original Hero’s Sword, now in his hands, blazed with dazzling silver light—even surpassing its original owner.

“Aaaah!”

Outside, a scream rang out.

Beyond the shattered door stood a hotel attendant, his face twisted in terror, as if utterly innocent.

“So, it was you who led them here?”

Above “Li En’s” eyes appeared the emblem of a scale—but he merely raised his right hand.

“Before the Scales of Law, sin cannot hide within the Domain of Guilt.”

Brilliant red light flared over the attendant; the power of the Law Goddess passed judgment, staining the sinner within the domain.

This shade of guilt-light had already claimed at least three lives within the two weeks of its effect.

“Click.”

A head flew through the air, blood splattering onto “Li En’s” face—but he remained utterly unmoved.

Left hand holding the sword, right hand still maintaining the Domain of Judgment, within the Holy Eye of the Scale, every corner of the inn glowed purple-red.

This was clearly a den of vice, so—

“Sincleave!”

The criminal engaged in drug trade was suddenly split in two.

Those stained crimson by the Light of Punishment were all criminals deserving death.

“Sincleave!”

The owner waiting for his cut was cleanly bisected.

“Shoecleave!”

A silver arc swept through, turning every bewildered thug into headless corpses.

At that moment, hurried footsteps echoed outside the hall—someone powerful was rushing over.

“Judgment—”

But this time, the silver blade halted.

It stopped just before the nose of the terrified leopard-woman officer.

What stopped it was not her badge, but the pure silver glow she still carried within the Domain of Guilt.

“Put… put down your weapon.” Even as she trembled all over, she held firm.

“A law enforcer of this era? Slow, but passable.”

“Li En” glanced around—the eleven sinners in the den were now all split in two; no more sinners remained in the domain. He casually dropped the silver Hero’s Sword.

Then he was tackled by a swarm of officers.

And so, he was arrested.

But an hour later, he was released.

“I never expected someone from this era would still be an Ancient Oath Knight—let alone one this strong.”

Inside the police station, Talia, the female officer, watched the young man’s departing back with deep awe. She marveled at her own shallowness—for she had mistaken this devout soul for a helpless lamb.

A commoner slaughtering an entire inn and killing eleven people on the crime scene was clearly a grave crime—but if the executioner was a Classical Oath Knight targeting a den of vice in the docks, it was simply lawful enforcement.

Oath Knights were a rare advancement of Holy Knights, a combat class nearly extinct in modern times—devout individuals who swore to protect all virtues. Before their Holy Power faded, they became embodiments of absolute justice.

Humility, honesty, compassion, courage, sacrifice, honor—merely the lowest tier of oath protections required inhuman asceticism.

And this oath-keeper was absurdly extreme.

“Never let evil before my eyes go unpunished!”

“Never abandon protection of the innocent and weak!”

“Justice admits no compromise.”

These absurdly extreme oaths made one wonder how he had even survived to this day.

Heavy shackles brought even greater supernatural power; this devout man judged with his own Domain of Guilt—when he said someone was guilty, they were guilty, unless you could first prove he had broken his oath and lost his Holy Power.

“.Lizard-blood Li En Sudar, degenerate.”

Talia suddenly felt the name sounded familiar—as if she had heard it just days ago.

She sifted through her memories—and indeed found the name.

“A distant relative of the Sudar Baron of this city? The fiancé of that brilliant Pearl of Radiance? Wait—wasn’t he rumored to be a useless coward? Obviously, rumors can’t be trusted at all.” Recalling the earlier evaluations, Talia felt a strange unease.

This man was clearly a master of disguise—she hadn’t seen through him at all upon first meeting, mistaking him for another stuffy nobleman.

For her, it was merely a minor incident—the real priority remained the suspected cultist tail-hunter.

At least thirty victims were known within half a year, mostly young children.

The case itself wasn’t the most troublesome—it was the investigation, which seemed interfered with by an invisible hand.

“Troublesome. Another report to write.”

She thought it was just a chance encounter—but on her way home from work, she met the Oath Knight again.

He stood right in the middle of the road.

Behind him were a wounded commoner mother and daughter.

And on the luxurious carriage he had stopped was the spider crest of the noble Labol family!

“Stop!”

The roar echoed through the entire street, shocking everyone.

This was a powerful noble—how dare you do this?!

But this was only the beginning. He raised his right hand and summoned the Judgment Domain right on the street.

“No way!”

The female officer froze—then instantly realized.

Given this man’s oaths—what would he do? What could he do?!

“Stop! Don’t! That’s a powerful noble!”

But it was too late. The moment the blood-red Baron’s son appeared, lethal silver light swallowed the entire street.

“Aaaahhh!”

Screams of murder on the street spread chaos.

But this, too, was only the beginning.

The blade cleaved the carriage open; the Oath Knight dragged a sack from beneath the seat.

The sack, thrown onto the street, burst open—revealing row upon row of bloody tails!

“Done. Completely done.”

And so, “Li En” returned to the police station—this time, he spent the night inside.

“Done. Completely done.”

The next morning, staring at the unfamiliar ceiling of the police station, Li En was dazed.

He stared at the “page” in his hand, utterly lost.

It wasn’t because he had committed a great crime—he had been perfectly clear then—but—

“Never abandon any weak soul in need… so that’s why you spent three hours at that intersection helping dozens of old people cross the road? The grandmothers all know you now!!”

“When others swear eternal vows to propose, you use your Dragon Eye to shatter their lies—what’s it to you that their hometown has another wife and three kids?! That woman cheated ten ships and jumped ship—what’s it to you?! They’re a perfect match: turtle meets whore! Why do you care?!”

“And the worst—when you talked to fallen women and told them to start over, fine. But you chased after those selling illicit videos? They think you’re insane! Is this really the business of a great knight?!”

The unbearable shame made him roll on the jail bed, clutching his head.

But as he felt the shame, he began to laugh.

A smile, then a laugh, then wild laughter—until two tears rolled down his cheeks. At least this was far more comfortable than clamping his tail and groveling like a dog.

“Foolish justice, the power of ancestral spirits”

A card appeared in Li En’s hand, depicting a two-handed sword knight clad in century-old armor, his gaze sharp as lightning, behind him a silver scale symbolizing justice and judgment.

Perhaps due to the fusion, beneath the steel helmet was Li En’s own face, only slightly more mature.

“This is the feeling of spirit possession.”

Li En knew the spirit possessing him was still himself, merely wearing a different mode of thought and logic of action.

Evil must be punished; justice requires no delay and must never be compromised.

And the book before him reflected his transformation.

【Li En (Spirit Possession: Constant)】

【Synchronization Rate: 14% (Warning: Synchronization Rate Below 10%, Spirit Possession Will End Prematurely)】

【Satisfaction: 7% (Warning: If Satisfaction Below 10% Upon Spirit Possession Ending, No Reward Will Remain; Higher Satisfaction Yields Greater Rewards)】

At this moment, he remained under spirit possession, though his synchronization rate had dropped far below the initial 30% upon summoning.

Previously, he would have wanted to cut down petty thieves on the spot; now, he would report them to the authorities.

That deep, soul-deep resonance still existed, but could now be slightly suppressed.

But correspondingly, the power granted by the spirit also declined noticeably as synchronization dropped.

【Species Rank: Inferior Stone; Temporary Class Levels: Second-Rank Classical Oath Knight, First-Rank Holy Knight, First-Rank Warrior (These Temporary Classes Will Disappear in 14 Days and 2 Hours)】

【Temporary Class Abilities: Evil-Slaying Slash (Degraded), Sin-Domain Judgment (Degraded), Holy Healing (Unavailable), Holy Flame (Unavailable)】

Of what had once been a long list of class abilities, only the first two remained usable—and both were degraded.

“How do I raise synchronization and satisfaction?” Li En realized that in this extraordinary world, the spirit power tied to this ancient book would be the foundation of his survival.

The initial peak may have been merely a burst phase or trial period; now it had stabilized, and the book seemed to hint that further improvement was possible.

He looked at the others in the cell. The largest bed had been taken by him; the Holy Oath Knight showed no mercy to other prisoners—once a guilt verdict was issued, he “educated” his fellow inmates along the way.

“Isn’t the answer right here? Sin-Domain Judgment.”

A faint red glow emerged; Li En smiled broadly.

“Evil-Slaying… Punch!!”

Thus, Li En began his morning training with punches to talk sense into others.

“It went up! Really went up! Synchronization increased by 0.5%, Satisfaction increased by 1%!”

Uh, this new book is being written steadily—daily updates of one large chapter (three to four thousand characters); after subscription, minimum four thousand daily (chapters split as needed). Currently aiming for morning updates.
