Chapter 319: The Transformed
"These heroic souls are truly hard to wipe out completely; each has a means to interfere with the present world. Lex, look at yourself. You're hailed as the Continent's Hero, yet you're the only one who strictly follows the rules. Isn't that shameful?"
Li En had asked Lex what state a heroic soul was in when possessing someone.
It was roughly a state between sleep and wakefulness, where thought was halted, leaving only a thin sense of self and instinct, similar to a server in a state of divine slumber, possessing only basic response instincts.
Li En estimated this was the result of "computing power (soul)" being drawn over to his side, or rather, the complete personality of the heroic soul within the dream was the result of his own main body having part of its computing power drawn away.
But obviously, not all heroic souls were in this state.
Some things were hard to wipe out completely; after awakening, making them "shut down" required their own willingness.
Others had their own means, capable of breaking free from the constraints of this mechanism.
Of course, this was also the reason this mechanism was suitable from the start, having never fully closed the door.
"Fistrelion and Kuk both had their own means (class abilities) to directly interfere with the outside world, and the Snake could jump straight out of the pool, yet only Su Er and Lex remained bound within it from start to finish. Is this class discrimination?"
Li En thought for a moment; this truly wasn't because those two "regular heroic souls" were weaker. They should be able to beat (one-shot) Kuk without any pressure.
The main reason was that one was a Paladin and the other a Warrior; they were straightforwardly strong, also straightforwardly pure melee units.
Actually, Li En estimated Su Er might also have extra means; a Paladin could manipulate Light power just the same, not being as "simple" as a Warrior. But considering Su Er's personality, even if he had extra means, unless it was an emergency, he would still abide by the "rules."
Of course, Li En would never look down on any class path because of this again; every class was a path to the heavens, each with its strengths and weaknesses, and how far and how strong one went in the end depended on the individual.
Before awakening "Heart Sound," Fistrelion could be said to have no combat power whatsoever; a Bard sang various epic stories and fairy tales, but within these stories, once a Bard appeared, they were basically a clown, a villain's minion, or a recorder; their combat power, to say it was tragic, was basically non-existent.
After all, "casting spells through singing" not only had extremely subtle effects and many functions but was rarely specialized, and also suffered from serious efficiency and stability issues.
By the time a Minotaur had cut down your front-line Warriors, grabbed your Cleric, and torn apart your Mage, you, a Bard, were still playing the lute and singing?! Were you there to entertain the enemy?
Because of this, there were indeed strong ones among Bards, but the places where they were strong didn't really seem like a Bard's; Bards wielding swords to chop people or throwing spells made one suspect their class tradition, giving the feeling that the Bard archetype was just along for the ride, and reality matched this stereotype; in many cases, they even had an extra "causing trouble" function.
Fistrelion counted as the most traditional Bard, with an ability configuration basically unrelated to combat, but once he truly comprehended the power of "Sound" and used it to interfere with the world, he immediately became an outrageous super-threat.
After communicating with him, Li En came to know the terrifying extent of his upper limit.
If he really wanted to, he could continuously set up "Lurking Melodies," let them spread to every corner of the world, then detonate them all at once, directly giving the world a GG.
"Matter, whether living or dead, is actually constantly singing. I just listened to them, understood them, and echoed them. After we became friends, I simply sang along with them."
This thing sounded sinister, and using it was even more sinister.
It seemed that as long as one "sang," one could rewrite everything.
But Li En tried to understand it using another train of thought and seemed to have found an answer.
"Dimensional Chord Theory. If the world's matter is composed of waves and strings vibrating at fixed frequencies, then as long as one can read these frequencies and make corrections, one can naturally interfere with all things."
If the Bard's "Echo" referred to this thing, then that power likely touched the very root of the world, with an upper limit not just high, but extraordinarily so.
Of course, this interference did not come without a cost.
Just as one wave crashing into another wave uses its own annihilation to exchange for the other's annihilation, if you interfere with the "fluctuation" of other existences, your own fluctuation will likewise collide and be consumed.
"So, I merely 'persuaded' them to convert themselves."
