Chapter 3501: Emotional Shift
"It's over?"
Tawana's father wore a look of utter surprise and blurted out: "You two were doing fine—how did you suddenly break up?"
Tawana stammered: "Maybe we just aren't that compatible. I feel that if we keep going like this, there won't be any real outcome, and since we're both not young anymore, there's no need to keep wasting each other's time."
"Not that compatible?"
Tawana's mother said doubtfully: "You two have been together for such a long time—this is your longest relationship yet. You're already in your thirties this year; it's time to think about your marriage. If you break up with Trevor now and then start dating again only to marry, it'll take several more years—you'll likely be forty by then!"
Saying this, Tawana's mother sighed with low spirits: "A woman's youth is just a fleeting dozen years or so—you can't keep wasting it like this..."
Tawana's father chimed in: "Yeah, sweetheart, with your talent in music, your career can last a long time, but your youth is fixed. It's more important to seize the time and settle your life's major affairs."
Tawana's mother immediately followed her husband's lead: "Daughter, I think Trevor is actually quite a decent young man—his appearance and temperament are up to par. Though his income doesn't match yours, he's already considered part of the elite. If you marry, you could be financially independent, so you wouldn't have to worry about him dragging you down."
Tawana firmly shook her head: "Don't say another word—I no longer have feelings for him. Continuing like this would be bad for both of us."
The couple exchanged a glance, both unable to help feeling a bit wistful.
They had a good impression of Trevor; their daughter's love life was complicated, and after finally finding someone stable and long-term, they both hoped the two would soon enter the hall of marriage.
Seeing that this was almost certainly going to happen—eight or nine out of ten—they never expected it would still end in a parting of ways.
Tawana's mother's mood visibly drooped; her daughter's love life had reset to zero, and she didn't know when it would bear fruit. Meanwhile, their family had already earned enough money to last several lifetimes, and all they hoped for was their daughter entering the next stage of life—but now it seemed hopelessly distant.
Tawana's father couldn't help but ask: "Did Trevor change his heart? Has this boy been fooling around outside lately?"
"No." Tawana felt a bit guilty and hurriedly said: "This has nothing to do with changing hearts."
Tawana's mother suddenly thought of something and blurted out: "Daughter, could it be that you've changed your heart?!"
Tawana dared not answer her mother's question, stammering: "I already said it has nothing to do with changing hearts—just stop asking."
Tawana's mother blurted: "During those few days when you held concerts in Huaxia, the whole internet was full of news about you kissing that dance actor through masks. Was it that the stage performance was a bit too over the top, making Trevor unhappy?"
"Possibly!" Tawana's father immediately agreed: "That coverage was indeed quite intense, and the stage scale was indeed larger than in past performances. If I were Trevor, I might also hold a grudge in my heart."
After saying that, Tawana's father quickly advised: "Daughter, if your misunderstanding stems from this, Dad suggests you find a chance to clarify things with him—work is work, life is life; just keep them separate."
Tawana said somewhat irritably: "You two don't need to keep discussing this back and forth here. No matter how you discuss it, I and Trevor have already reached the end. I can't go back to how things were before, let alone marry him. In fact, I'd rather stay single for life than marry him just because of age."
Tawana's mother couldn't help but say: "But you really need to think about your own life! Your career is so successful, you've earned so much money, and your future music royalties will keep generating wealth for you—but you still need to move your life forward. Otherwise, what will happen to all this money and these royalties later? Who will inherit them?"
Tawana blurted: "If I'm destined to have descendants, they'll naturally inherit from me. If not, then after I die, I might as well donate everything outright!"
Tawana's mother grew upset, her eyes reddening: "How can that be? Those celebrities who end up lonely and old are pitiful—some, in their later years, are surrounded by all kinds of scammers eyeing their estates. Institutions swarm like flies to get their money, treating them like prime steak on a banquet table. I can't accept you suffering that kind of torment in old age."
Tawana said earnestly: "Mom, I'm only in my thirties—I don't want to think about the problems you mentioned. Besides, I believe in my own abilities. Since I could build my own career in my twenties, by the time I'm seventy or eighty, I definitely won't be played like a pawn by those people. You don't need to worry about this for me."
Saying this, Tawana stood up, preparing to go outside to the balcony to blow some sea breeze and calm herself alone.
But just then, her phone suddenly received a WeChat message.
Seeing the WeChat notification, she was suddenly overjoyed—her earlier irritation vanished instantly, because she knew this message must be from Ye Chen.
Tawana's main social circle is in Europe and America; for Westerners, they have their own social and instant messaging apps, and few use WeChat daily.
The reason Tawana downloaded WeChat and registered an account was mainly to stay in touch with Ye Chen.
She also added some Huaxia friends on WeChat, but those people are basically just work contacts she's interacted with. After her twenty concerts in Huaxia ended, she set all those collaborators to message-free mode—except for one person, whose message notifications remain on: that person is Ye Chen.
So, whenever WeChat pushes a message, it must be from Ye Chen.
Tawana's visible, huge transformation and her overjoyed expression let her parents instantly sense something was off.
At that moment, Tawana quickly picked up her phone, opened WeChat with focus, and saw Ye Chen's message: "Miss Svet, which villa are you staying in? I'm leaving the island today and want to meet you."
Tawana was overjoyed and quickly replied: "I'm staying in Villa No. 1, but I'm currently at my parents' Villa No. 2."
Ye Chen replied: "I'm opposite you. If it's convenient, I'll come over later."
Tawana immediately replied: "Then let's meet at Villa No. 2—I'm heading back now."
Ye Chen replied: "Okay, see you soon."
Tawana put away her phone and immediately told her parents: "I'm going back to my room—later, a friend is coming to visit."
Without waiting for her parents' reply, she hurried out and returned to her own room.
Tawana's mother couldn't help but say to her husband: "Tawana's behavior just now was just like someone in the throes of youthful love—who is this friend she mentioned?"
Tawana's father shook his head: "I don't know either, but she's indeed been acting oddly lately—could she have found someone new she likes?"
