Chapter 17: Has the Main Quest Been Completed?
Wu Chang silently circled behind Randy and whispered, "This is a biology question—I'll explain after I kill him."
Facing the charging Wolf, Randy had no time to ponder—he swung his greatsword and charged straight at Wolf.
Wolf's attacks were too fast for Wu Chang to see, yet Randy, as an ordinary human, parried them effortlessly.
Moving through the battle, he even had time to raise his musket in one hand and blast several holes into Wolf's skull.
The exorcism array, combined with Randy's unconscious formation and his monstrous, beastman-like physical talent, quickly turned the tide.
If all goes as expected, Randy will soon give Wu Chang a show of tearing apart a boss with his bare hands.
Wu Chang sat at a distance, munching on some roasted beans he'd casually taken from the cafeteria, clapping his hands.
Brilliant, brilliant.
No wonder the Cult of Serenity had planted so many moles but dared not move against Randy—no wonder he's the kind of man whose ancestors could gouge out a god's eyeballs.
As the battle escalated and expanded to the entire first-floor hall, Wu Chang checked his level and wisely retreated into the shadows to avoid collateral damage.
Before leaving, he threw Wolf a "good luck" glance; Wolf gave him a subtle nod, acknowledging his role in luring Randy.
He'd planned to give Randy a glance too, but Randy's bloodshot eyes never noticed him.
He had reason to suspect Randy's body carried some berserker bloodline—once battle began, Randy quickly slipped into a berserk state.
Fast reactions, lethal strikes, utterly fearless.
In berserk mode, Randy switched between weapons with fluid precision—swift sword, musket, golden crossbow bolts—all used in rapid succession.
He seized an opening—Wolf's guard wide open—and pulled out his musket, firing straight down the center, blasting half of Wolf's human body to pieces.
Then he leapt up the stairs, slashed upward with his sword, severing both mutated insect limbs; mid-air, he rolled, slung the musket back onto his back, drew the golden crossbow, and fired two silver bolts into Wolf's eyes, pinning his head to the wall.
Wolf's vitality far exceeded that of common soldiers—even with the anti-magic bolts embedded in his skull, he didn't die instantly.
With brute strength, he yanked the bolts from the wall, arrows still stuck in his eye sockets, and said to Randy in a tone of satisfaction:
"Randy, it's been so long, and you're still this strong—so strong I'm starting to wonder, who's really the monster here, you or me?"
Wolf's words seemed to hold magic, instantly snapping Randy out of his berserk state.
Calm again, Randy sank into a daze, murmuring like a dreamer:
"I hear many voices speaking—I recognize your tones… do we know each other?"
"Of course—you and I are bosom friends," Wolf continued, his tone subtly seductive.
As Randy fell into thought, unseen shadows split open Wolf's bloated worm body, revealing a new, crimson, heart-like form pulsing inside—the peeled-off flesh fibers thick as a blood-woven cocoon.
Shit, boss is entering phase two, and our DPS is still zoning out—what do we do? Online, urgent.
No out-of-bounds aid in the dungeon—no choice, he'd have to act himself.
Wu Chang, transformed into the frantic king, leapt from the second-floor shadows and charged straight at Wolf.
He had no intention of letting Wolf finish his phase-transition CG and emerge unscathed.
Wolf sensed Wu Chang's charge but made no move—first, his insect limbs had just been severed and hadn't regenerated; second, he didn't think a mere insect could threaten him.
More than threat, he felt only outrage at being insulted.
He wore the exact expression of an eco-girl, snarling: "How dare you!"
The mental pressure from a B-rank dungeon boss's rage would kill an ordinary person on the spot—but Wu Chang felt only an unyielding spirit enveloping him, leaving him utterly fearless, even as he roared his skill:
"Man!"
With the Manba Iron Elbow skill's bonus, Wu Chang's elbow automatically snapped onto Wolf's face two meters away, delivering a solid iron elbow strike that drove the two anti-magic bolts deeper into Wolf's skull and twisted his already grotesque face into something even more abstract.
After all, Wolf was a B-rank dungeon boss—the Iron Elbow did little damage, but the myriad debuffs clinging to the elbow were insidious, forcing Wolf to abandon his mind games with Randy.
Seizing Randy's moment of clarity, Wu Chang activated the anti-magic bolt's special skill "Anti-Magic," hurled the glowing golden bolt, and shouted:
"Catch!"
Randy understood instantly, snatched the bolt mid-air, swiftly reloaded, and hurled it toward Wolf.
The final bolt shot out like a golden lightning bolt, accompanied by a deafening detonation, piercing straight into Wolf's third eye.
The three bolts seemed linked—when the final one fired, the other two also activated "Anti-Magic."
Golden light engulfed Wolf; amid piercing screams, his massive, emerging worm body boiled in the radiance, bursting open along its cracks, green blood bubbling and spraying everywhere.
With the worm body gone, Wolf's mangled human form collapsed; with his last strength, he lifted his head and growled:
"The sacrifice is about to begin—the god is destined to descend—this is fate, unstoppable. Today is not the end—it is only the beginning!"
Then he died.
Wu Chang spat at Wolf's corpse—dying still playing cryptic riddles? You deserved to explode.
With the greatest threat resolved, Wu Chang and Randy slumped to the ground, gazing up at the sky through the shattered roof of the sanatorium, watching the storm clouds part to reveal a star-strewn night.
Randy removed the ring bearing the Anderson crest and tossed it to Wu Chang:
"Thanks to you, I've thwarted the Cult of Serenity's plot. As ruler of Bai Shi Town, I still have cleanup to do—take this to town, trade it for a horse, return to Your Majesty and report everything that happened here. I'll follow soon."
The instant Wu Chang caught the ring, a prompt flashed before his eyes.
"Player has completed Main Quest One: Leave Moonlight Sanatorium. Player may choose to end the dungeon and exit the current plane at will, outside of combat."
"Player has completed Main Quest Two: Explore the secrets of Moonlight Sanatorium. All main quests completed. Countdown ended, player will be forcibly exiled from the dungeon plane."
"Maximum remaining time in current dungeon: one hour."
After completing the quest, Wu Chang didn't rush to leave—he pulled out the golden pocket watch he'd found under Jin Dun's bed, checked the time, then asked Randy:
"Director Randy, before I go, I have a few questions I'd like to discuss with you."
Randy: "Go ahead."
"Assuming the mythological records are true—do you think the demon god is a real deity?" Wu Chang asked casually.
"If everything is true, then I believe He is," Randy replied calmly.
Wu Chang glanced at the time and asked: "Then what, in your view, defines a deity?"
Randy smiled and answered: "You'd have to ask the Church's priests. If I had to say? Absolute power to destroy all things—and infinite wisdom, omniscient and omnipotent."
"So you think the evil god possesses these two traits?" Wu Chang's tone grew somewhat provocative.
Randy shrugged. "Who knows? Maybe when you and I meet the evil god, we'll find out if He's truly a deity. By the way, you've been checking your watch since earlier—is something going on?"
With a snap, Wu Chang closed the golden pocket watch and said solemnly, "I don't believe the evil god possesses these traits."
Randy smiled and asked, "Why?"
Wu Chang took the King's Seal in his left hand and the Secret Art Seal in his right, revealing a brilliant smile.
"Because you have no idea what I'm about to do, Lord Lyman."
