Chapter 241: The Big One Is Coming

~12 min read 2,348 words

Feiguang and Qianye stared at the massive computer before them, their eyes filled with excitement.

What Saint Song Corporation was doing was clearly beyond the capability of the Wasteland Realm—something special must be involved.

The thing those big figures were searching for was indeed in this dimension.

They didn't know exactly what those big figures were seeking, but they knew the immense cost those big figures had paid to find what was inside Saint Song Corporation.

Leaving aside other arrangements, the resources poured into the Iron Armor Corps alone were astronomical.

In the Abyss Game, once you reach A-grade items of high quality, they're already rare and priceless; A-grade consumables and growth-type items can be sold as intelligence just by their existence, and S-grade items are utterly irreplaceable—objects worth full-scale competition among the four major organizations.

Yet even so, Feiguang was certain that if any S-grade item ever entered the market for auction, the final price would still not surpass the resources those big figures had invested in the Iron Armor Corps.

Recalling the rewards promised to them by those people, what the two now saw before them was no longer the massive computer, but a bright future.

As the two were lost in gazing, a new location flashed onto the screen of Feiguang's computer.

Feiguang tapped open the location and saw the computer had already mapped out their route: first descend to the underground garage, then use a Level Nine access card to open a hidden door, sneak into a special transport vehicle, and after the vehicle stopped at its destination, swipe open another hidden door—that would be the final position specified by the computer.

Wu Chang stared at the route on the computer and was reminded of the scene from the Zou brothers' resentment: the laboratory where they were transformed into Prime Armaments had also begun from the underground garage.

The location pointed to by the computer should be that very laboratory.

Feiguang and Qianye left the laboratory, pressed the elevator's downward button, and Wu Chang assumed they'd head straight for the underground garage—only to find they chose the first-floor lobby instead.

The moment they entered the elevator, their contract ignited and burned away, and the divinity within their computers rapidly dissipated.

The time for the contract's descent had arrived.

They stopped gathering intelligence, first visiting Youwu at the nearby Saint Song Hospital, then sat in a corner of a café.

While waiting for their coffee, Qianye asked first: "What's next? Wait for the contract to cool down, or find another way?"

Feiguang gazed at the street scene, his eyes thoughtful. "The dungeon's difficulty has exceeded our expectations—we can't rely too heavily on them."

Qianye took the coffee from the server and turned to ask: "You saw it too—reaching the next target requires a Level Nine access card and evading security systems. We two alone can't pull this off."

Feiguang narrowed his eyes and said: "I have an idea. It's risky, but worth trying."

Qianye asked curiously: "Go on."

Feiguang lowered his voice and whispered: "Did you notice the information displayed in the hidden room? In the Sin Repository, I saw a Gold-Ranked Employee with the sin of Sloth—he deliberately sabotaged his team, dragging down colleagues and slowing multiple projects because he saw no path upward. I also saw a Supervisor with the sin of Greed—he forced subordinates into endless overtime and stole at least half their performance."

"Doesn't that sound familiar?"

Qianye seemed to recall something and said: "The Lazyfish and Gluttony Ant who blocked us before?"

Feiguang nodded: "I suspect Saint Song Corporation's Prime Armaments and the Degraded Monsters are all created by transforming humans—and the targets are selected by that computer."

"After we saw that room, we received the next target location. Clearly, the next location concerns either Prime Armaments or Degraded Monsters."

Feiguang pulled out his phone, opened his photo album, and placed it before Qianye.

"I just took pictures of the two people with the highest Virtue and Sin scores. If I'm right, they're the company's next targets. We just need to monitor their movements—when they're taken to the target location, you use your Veil Leaf to hide and follow them, and we'll slip in naturally."

"If everything goes smoothly, we save one request for help. If danger arises, we still have time to call for aid and let them rescue us."

Qianye thought for a moment, found it feasible, and said: "Fine, do it your way. But there's one problem—your two targets are a Gold-Ranked Employee and a Level Seven Supervisor. We can't access their floors with our current clearance."

Feiguang said: "First, try to get support from Mr. Xiao En. If that fails, I'll find another way."

"No problem!" Wu Chang, watching Feiguang and Qianye before him, immediately agreed to their request.

"I can grant you Level Seven clearance and monitoring access to your targets, but there's a condition: until you obtain solid evidence proving a supervisor and Gold-Ranked Employee are under hypnotic control, you must take no action whatsoever—even if you decide to act, you must get my approval first."

Feiguang immediately said: "We can guarantee that."

Wu Chang and Feiguang locked eyes for several seconds, then nodded: "I trust you. Go ahead. This is a critical moment for Saint Song Corporation—no mistakes allowed."

Watching the two leave satisfied, Wu Chang sat back in his office chair and shook his head.

If nothing unexpected happens, these two will definitely encounter something unexpected.

When the two received their new target location and left Saint Song Tower, Wu Chang manipulated his shadow to scout the underground route.

Entering the first hidden door went smoothly. He followed the transport vehicle's passage all the way to the end—but when he tried to pass through the second hidden door, he hit trouble.

The second hidden door carried divinity. His intuition told him: unless entered via the access card, any intrusion or stealth attempt would trigger the divinity's immediate detection.

Feiguang and Qianye, unprepared, would likely be discovered the moment they entered.

Wu Chang stood up and walked to the office's floor-to-ceiling window, looking down. About two kilometers below stood a vast square; beneath it lay the place where the Zou brothers were transformed into Prime Armaments—the same location Feiguang and Qianye were targeting.

From here, the view was perfect—everything happening on the square was fully visible.

I wonder if I'll be able to see anything when Feiguang and Qianye clash with Saint Song Corporation.

Night fell quickly. Lei Mengde, after simple disguise, arrived beside the small river outside Duonaojie, as agreed.

He arrived an hour early—but when he got there, he found the target already seated on the designated bench.

The person coming to meet him had made no disguise. That face, Lei Mengde had studied over a hundred times in the past two days: Mo Ke, Director of the Anquan Force, former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

To prevent vagrants from using the bench as a bed, a steel pipe had been welded down its center, splitting it evenly in half.

Lei Mengde sat on the other side, gazed at the water, and asked calmly:

"What's wrong? Why move up the meeting time?"

Mo Ke said: "Schulz suddenly decided to hold a press conference. It's urgent—I have too much to prepare. If I wait any longer, I won't have time."

Lei Mengde frowned: "Was Schulz's decision to hold the press conference on Prime Armaments sudden?"

Mo Ke did not answer Lei Mengde's question. "I didn't come here to help you steal company secrets. Tell me—what have you seen?"

Lei Mengde's expression darkened. His hand on his knee tightened slightly, crumpling his pant leg.

"Everything I needed to say is in the report. A few days ago, following leads from the Bureau, I was preparing to infiltrate the Finance Director's home when I saw two mysterious groups clash—one released a Degraded Monster." "I suspect they're capturing Degraded Monsters to use as weapons. Since then, I've kept watch. I guessed they'd strike again, so I've been stationed on high points across the city. Last night, I finally caught them in action."

Upon hearing Lei Mengde mention capturing Degraded Monsters as weapons, Mo Ke gave him an extra glance. Seeing no additional expression on Lei Mengde's face, his gaze returned to the water.

Mo Ke asked: "Any other missing intelligence?"

Lei Mengde said: "If I must add something—it's that the group capturing Degraded Monsters is large. One of them is a woman. Pay special attention to powerful women."

Mo Ke said calmly: "I'm already watching them. Any other information?"

Lei Mengde shook his head. "That's all for now. If you need anything, I can help. No matter what they plan to do with the Degraded Monsters, I must stop them!"

Mo Ke fell silent for a moment, then suddenly asked: "You're from Sid Town, aren't you?"

Lei Mengde: "Yes, that's why I came to investigate Sheng Ge."

Mo Ke: "What did you find?"

Lei Mengde shook his head. "Nothing yet. But if you really did something, it will be uncovered one day."

!

Mo Ke smiled, looked at Lei Mengde, and said: "You remind me of myself when I was young. If you help me catch the Sheng Ge Hunters, I'll tell you who was behind what happened in Sid Town back then."

Lei Mengde's eyes widened. He sprang to his feet, voice urgent: "You know who it was?!"

Mo Ke did not answer. He spoke slowly: "Maybe I know, maybe I don't. That's my business—you don't need to worry. We all have our own work. First, finish your own, then concern yourself with others'."

Lei Mengde stared hard at Mo Ke. After a moment, he let out a cold snort. "You'll see the result."

Lei Mengde finished speaking and turned to leave.

After Lei Mengde left, Mo Ke sat by the shore for another ten minutes until a black sedan arrived; only then did he rise and enter the car.

The car drove toward Sheng Ge Tower, moving smoothly, and pulled into Sheng Ge Tower's garage.

Mo Ke stepped out and took the elevator straight back to his office.

Five minutes later, a sports car pulled into the garage. A stylish young man stepped out and entered the elevator.

As the elevator ascended, he tore off the simulated skin covering his face, poured out specialized makeup remover, rubbed off the cosmetics, removed the wig, and took off his coat.

By the time he stepped out of the elevator, the young man had returned to Mo Ke's original appearance.

As he walked toward his office, the secretary instinctively greeted him: "Mr. Mo Ke."

Only after greeting him did the secretary realize something was wrong. She quickly blocked Mo Ke's path, one hand hovering over the alarm button, and asked:

"Didn't you just enter the office?"

A button on Mo Ke's chest flickered. He said: "You're mistaken."

The secretary nodded dazedly, lowered her hand from the alarm. "Sorry."

Mo Ke entered the office and stared at the other version of himself, his expression thoughtful.

That Lei Mengde seems reliable.

Meanwhile, Lei Mengde circled Duonaojie several times, confirmed no one was following him, then returned to Mao Xiong Gang.

The first gang of Duonaojie had now been usurped. The former boss of Mao Xiong Gang had become Veronica's subordinate, and the boss's office had become the group's operational base.

Lei Mengde pushed open the door and asked Wu Chang and the others: "How was my performance?"

Wu Chang said: "The last part was a bit overacted, but the emotional shifts flowed smoothly. I'd give you 95."

Bu Ke, doing dumbbell curls, didn't look up. "I'd give you a hundred."

Veronica said: "I just confirmed it—the Mo Ke you met has no abnormalities. His energy is balanced, his life force abundant, not a trace of illness."

Colton followed up: "But it's precisely this normalcy that makes him suspicious. According to the FBI's archived files, even if Sheng Ge Corporation used black tech to cure his heart disease, it couldn't have healed him this completely."

"So it's a fake."

Wu Chang smiled faintly at Colton's conclusion.

This was his plan. Colton had hacking skills—enough to crack Sheng Ge Corporation's network? Not quite. But breaching the FBI's firewall? Child's play.

Through the FBI's archives, they quickly discovered Mo Ke's rare heart condition.

Wu Chang only needed to suggest one possibility: Could Mo Ke have sent a decoy to test Lei Mengde? Instantly, everyone realized: use the heart condition as the breakthrough to determine if the man who showed up was real.

If he was real, they'd strike immediately. If not, they'd put on a show to gain Mo Ke's trust.

Lei Mengde exhaled sharply and cursed: "Old fox. I have no idea where he found that decoy. Even his forehead scar and the slight chip on his front tooth were perfectly replicated. If you hadn't stopped me, I'd have moved on him just now."

Wu Chang said: "Regardless, after tonight's meeting, you've gained Mo Ke's preliminary trust. Next time, he won't be able to avoid you."

Lei Mengde nodded and said:

"Sheng Ge Corporation's press conference is the day after tomorrow. We proceed as planned. When the press conference starts, we'll give Sheng Ge Corporation a big gift!"

Bu Ke dropped his dumbbells and stretched his body. "Finally, I can move around again."

Colton typed on his keyboard and sent the selected profiles of several Sheng Ge Corporation executives to the group.

Everyone eagerly began preparing—except Wu Chang, who sensed something off.

Mo Ke mentioned during the meeting that the press conference was a last-minute decision by Schultz. For Sheng Ge Corporation, a press conference by Yuan Zhi Arms was a major event; if they were holding one, planning would have begun at least six months in advance.

What could have caused Schultz to change his mind so suddenly?

Added to that, Schultz's words suggested he'd already locked onto the mysterious group Lei Mengde mentioned—the players.

Wu Chang had a feeling: something big was coming.
