Chapter 27: Ghost Whisperer!
The three of them paced over to the Liar-Slayers.
Ma Wenjie remained silent for a moment before asking, "How did you confirm my identity?"
This was his confusion, and it would also serve as his evidence for the upcoming Judgment. After speaking, he stared intently at the two of them, attempting to glean some clues.
Chen Ran and Li Annan exchanged a glance before Chen Ran finally provided the answer. "First, both Chen Ran and the Masked Man smoke, but Cheng Si does not."
"Second, every time a Card is drawn, Cheng Si always thinks for a long time."
"Finally, Li Annan and I both just declared that the police would win, while you stated that the Wolf would win."
Ma Wenjie understood.
'I don't smoke, which indicates that I am Cheng Si.'
'I think for a long time, which indicates that I am Cheng Si.'
'I said the Wolf wins, which indicates that I am Cheng Si.'
'If only one condition was met, they might not have dared to be certain of my identity. However, meeting all three is enough to prove that Ma Wenjie is Cheng Si.'
"I don't understand. Even if you confirmed my identity, why would the Sheep help the Wolf?"
Chen Ran's expression turned peculiar. "Since we have already confirmed your identity, do you think we can confirm who the Sheep is?"
"..." Ma Wenjie was rendered speechless.
'That's right. With only three people present, if Chen Ran's soul confirmed that Ma Wenjie is Cheng Si, then he can naturally figure out who the Masked Man is.'
'In other words, Chen Ran's soul has the qualifications to clear the Instance at any time.'
'But I am different. I cannot confirm who the Sheep is. A rash Judgment would only have a fifty percent chance of success.'
'Simply put, if the Sheep helps me, Chen Ran will immediately execute the Sheep through Judgment. If the Sheep helps Chen Ran, I only have a fifty percent chance to execute the Sheep.'
'Therefore, the Sheep can only help the Wolf!'
"Actually, if you die from failing to Judge the Sheep, and the Sheep continues to gamble with the Wolf, the Wolf won't execute the Sheep," Chen Ran laughed aloud.
"Why?" Ma Wenjie found himself increasingly unable to see through these two.
Chen Ran wiped the smile from his face and stated seriously, "The Sheep is supposed to be killed by the Wolf. It shouldn't be the Masked Man getting shot dead by the Player Chen Ran!"
"This entire Instance serves as a buildup for the Husband to kill the Masked Man. Only when the Husband kills the Masked Man can it be considered a perfect clear!"
The difference between the two lay in the method of execution—one would be killed by the Liar-Slayer, while the other would be shot by the Pistol on the Scales of Judgment. Their meanings, however, were worlds apart.
Ma Wenjie chuckled. While he was still striving to figure out how to clear the Instance solo, Chen Ran had already plotted out a perfect clear.
Perhaps this was the gap between them.
The three exchanged a glance and simultaneously bent down to pick up the Liar-Slayers from the ground. Chen Ran and Li Annan aimed their muzzles directly at Ma Wenjie.
Ma Wenjie looked at the two of them before finally aiming his gun at Chen Ran. "Although my deductions suggest that you should be the real Chen Ran, given how full of tricks you are, I will do the exact opposite."
"You lied."
Upon speaking the command, Ma Wenjie immediately pulled the trigger, but the Bullet... jammed.
"You lied."
Chen Ran immediately spoke the command. Without giving Li Annan the time to use his Liar Hunter Skill, he pulled the trigger straight away. All three of them could clearly see the sparks flying as the Bullet shot out of the chamber.
Bang! Ma Wenjie was dead.
Chen Ran then turned his muzzle. Logically speaking, as long as he spoke the command to Li Annan and fired, this Novice Instance would be cleared.
However, he did not do so. Chen Ran lowered his arm and casually tossed the Liar-Slayer onto the ground.
Seeing this, Li Annan also dropped his Liar-Slayer to the ground and asked, "Why? I don't think you actually believe that 'perfect clear' bullshit."
"Clumsy probing." Having said that, Chen Ran ignored him and walked over to the gambling table.
"I have a few questions."
Chen Ran leaned back in his chair, arrogantly propping his legs on the gambling table and resting his head on his hands.
"First question: I noticed that Players won't commit murder with their own hands even without the protection of a Liar-Slayer. Why is that?"
Li Annan could sense that if he told a lie, Chen Ran would kill him without hesitation.
"Before I answer your question, resolve my confusion first. In truth, I've been watching you since the first Secret Room. You don't seem to feel the slightest bit of fear regarding murder or these Secret Rooms?"
"In life, I was a novel author. Every day, I conceptualized bizarre and treacherous plots. For me, no matter what happens in this world, it is what it is. It's nothing more than fighting against the heavens, the earth, and other people. The form may be different, but there's nothing to make a fuss about."
Chen Ran spoke with ease, but to Li Annan's ears, it hit like a magnitude ten earthquake.
'This kind of Mental State...'
'Could he have already achieved the True Self State of Mind while he was still alive?'
'Someone in this Mental State can freely control their own emotions, and more importantly, they can manipulate the emotions of others!'
'Of the three Mental States, emotions are the easiest to manipulate. You like candy, so if I give you candy, you'll be happy; if I snatch your candy away, you'll cry. It's that simple. Through emotional guidance, one can manipulate the actions and thoughts of others, thereby achieving whatever predetermined goals they want those people to accomplish.'
'It's easy to say, but hard to do.'
'Chen Ran hasn't systematically studied the Mind Cultivation Methods of Hell. He must have only just touched the threshold of this level...'
...
"The Instance prohibits fighting, lying, cursing, bragging, and making empty promises that are impossible to fulfill. Unless, of course, you are a liar, unless..."
"Unless what else?" Chen Ran frowned.
"Unless you are a Ghost Whisperer!"
"Unless what else?" Chen Ran frowned.
"Unless you are a Ghost Whisperer!"
Seeing Chen Ran's confusion, Li Annan slowly lit a Cigarette and explained, "If everyone believes a lie, and even the person telling the lie believes it without a shadow of a doubt, then no matter how absurd their words are, they become the truth. In the 18th Level, such people are known as Ghost Whisperers!"
"Unknown Common Sense?" Chen Ran asked with a hint of uncertainty, as if something had just occurred to him.
"Exactly!" Li Annan cast an approving look at Chen Ran. "In life, we all lived on a Blue Star. Everyone told us that the Blue Star was round, the books wrote it like that, and we naturally assumed it to be true."
"But that was only what others said, what books wrote, and what we saw in videos. In reality, we hadn't witnessed it with our own eyes. Is there a possibility that the Blue Star is actually square?"
"When a lie is treated as the truth by everyone, the lie becomes the truth."
"Ghost Whisperers often spread lies in the form of text, making the Players in the Instance firmly believe that the content of the text is true. Then, when the creator speaks the content written in the text, it will not be judged as a lie by the Liar-Slayer."
Hearing this, Chen Ran recalled the scenario in the Novice Tutorial Room. There was clearly no Ghost Gate Pass in that Secret Room, yet everyone saw the words "Ghost Gate Pass" written on the table's Shielding Plate.
And thus, the Ghost Gate Pass came to exist!
Because of this, it created the truth that beyond the Ghost Gate Pass was the Yellow Springs Road. Consequently, after the Youth crossed the Ghost Gate Pass, he said to the second person in line: "This is the Yellow Springs Road."
And it was judged as the truth by the Liar-Slayer!
'Is this the Ghost Whisperer that Li Annan was talking about? By turning lies into truths, they can ignore certain specific rules within the Instance?'
"How do you break a Deceiver's Tongue?" This was the issue Chen Ran cared about most.
