Chapter 16: Ancient Beast World 10

~7 min read 1,271 words

Bao Jing, upon hearing Ye Xi'an still wanted to build houses in the Free Zone and the Slum, suddenly widened his eyes, even dropping the stick in his hand, flung it behind him, grabbed Ye Xi'an's shoulders and shook her violently back and forth.

While shaking her, he muttered, trying to make her wake up a bit: "Do you even know what you're saying? Building houses there, do you want to smell garbage every day? Or do you want to be blown to ashes while sleeping? Do you know how it feels for me to hear males urinating outside my house every night when I sleep? Do you know!"

Ye Xi'an felt her brain being shaken to a mush; she was just speaking casually, why get so excited?

Big brother, stop shaking, I just...

Just as Ye Xi'an was about to explain, Bao Jing suddenly furrowed his brows, the hand on her shoulder instantly wrapped around her waist and pulled her into his embrace, his other hand covered her mouth, using his gaze to signal that there was movement above.

After they fell silent, the cave was quiet, only the rustling of vines blown by the wind could be heard.

Occasionally, a rhythmic slapping sound came through.

That sound came from above, though it was unclear.

Ye Xi'an felt the sound was somewhat familiar; she patted Bao Jing to signal him to let go, then pressed her ear against the stone wall, knowing that sound travels much more clearly through solids than through air.

Ah~, hmm.

Ye Xi'an jerked back, finally realizing what was happening above.

Her face flushed, she sat back on the ground, embarrassedly covering her ears; that man had told her such things must not be seen or heard by others.

Seeing Ye Xi'an like that, Bao Jing grew ever more curious about the strange matter, yet he had no idea what the sound was.

He crouched beside Ye Xi'an and asked what she had heard; Ye Xi'an felt too embarrassed to speak, not only saying nothing but burying her head even deeper.

Bao Jing pushed the turtle‑curled Ye Xi'an twice, getting no response; although falcons are naturally ruthless, he was still a newly adult, and his curiosity had peaked.

He grabbed and pulled away her hands covering her ears, saw she still wanted to bury her head in his chest, and swiftly reached to grab her—only to grab the wrong spot.

The smooth, round feel of her hands was something Bao Jing had never touched; he instinctively squeezed twice and blurted, "So soft."

After saying that, he realized what he had done, and both stared at each other in disbelief.

Ye Xi'an, completely flushed, shoved away the hand gripping her, and the next second a slap landed on Bao Jing's face.

Smack!

You bastard!

Ye Xi'an, clutching her chest, was about to run out, but when she lifted the vine she pulled her leg back—why should she flee when it wasn't her who was being lecherous?

She turned her head, her snow‑white cheek flushed, biting her lower lip as she ordered Bao Jing: "You! Get out!"

Bao Jing still held the pose of grabbing something, his head dazed; hearing Ye Xi'an tell him to leave, he went out without thinking.

At midnight, Ye Xi'an had forced herself to sleep, while Bao Jing sat foolishly cross‑legged on the stone at the cave entrance, arms resting on his knees, palms up, loosely curled into a half‑circle.

Moonlight washed over his face, highlighting his scarlet cheeks, his gaze vacant as he stared into the dark forest ahead.

Upon hearing that strange sound again, he suddenly realized.

Shame washed over him like moonlight enveloping his whole body; he covered his face with both hands, trying to escape the world.

But why was there a faint milky fragrance?

The male's spine stiffened, he slowly lifted his face from his hands, looked at his right hand, brought it to his nose again and smelled—indeed it was the scent of that hand, which could only be Ye Xi'an's.

For no reason, his throat grew dry and itchy; by the time he reacted, his tongue had already licked the taste from his hand into his mouth.

Heavens, what have I done.

Could he have been controlled by Ye Xi'an's mental power?

At dawn, Bao Jing appeared before Ye Xi'an with dark circles under his eyes.

But Ye Xi'an still resented last night's incident and temporarily didn't want to speak to that lecher.

Let's go back.

Ye Xi'an feigned aloofness: "Oh."

She opened her address book and notified the gathering at Tu Mi Village entrance.

The two parties met; Ye Xi'an noticed Tu Mi had brought only three males, though she remembered that day there had been at least ten males behind Tu Mi.

Where are your other males?

Tu Mi defiantly crossed her arms, her beast‑skin replaced by a stylish strapless high‑slit red dress.

"Those few are the ones I gathered in this world; I don't want to bring them back—it's stupid to waste food."

Bao Jing frowned: "If you don't want to take responsibility, you shouldn't have provoked them; by leaving, you're sending them to their doom."

Tu Mi, impatient, retorted: "So what? I can handle my males however I like."

After saying that, she gave a glance to the flamboyantly dressed male behind her; he instantly sprouted blue‑green wings, lifted Tu Mi into the sky, while the other two grabbed his ankles.

Bao Jing looked at Ye Xi'an with a resentful expression, leaving her bewildered.

Don't ever learn from her! You shameless female!

Ye Xi'an's mouth twitched, "What the heck?"

When Ye Xi'an arrived at the spatial gate, Tu Mi was already waiting there for them.

"Hurry up, I'm freezing."

"Pay the rest of the money, then I'll open the door."

Although Ye Xi'an is socially anxious, she absolutely cannot suffer a loss; her experience with Tu Mi has given her the impression of a major villain—if they go out relying on her power and influence to dodge repayment, she'd lose big.

Tu Mi practically laughed, thinking Ye Xi'an wouldn't assume she'd welsh on ten thousand yuan, would she?

If it were a million, she might really welsh, but ten thousand? That's outright an insult to her!

"Hah, truly a petty poor person. Here you go—is that enough?"

Seeing the account balance turn into twenty thousand, Ye Xi'an finally felt satisfied, pulled a key from her space, and opened the spatial gate.

Tu Mi led the way with her males; Ye Xi'an followed, taking a deep breath before stepping through.

Bao Jing followed Ye Xi'an, just in case danger suddenly appeared.

As soon as they emerged from the spatial gate, the entrance was crowded with a throng of people, nearly making Ye Xi'an faint.

She instinctively stepped back, and that retreat landed her straight into Bao Jing's arms.

Bao Jing still thought Ye Xi'an had encountered something: "What's wrong?"

Ye Xi'an trembled, speaking incoherently: "So many people."

"It's Monday today, so there are indeed more people. Take out the things, let's first go submit the task."

The surrounding chaotic smells made Ye Xi'an unable to move, only the faint fresh scent on Bao Jing made her feel a bit better.

"Then hold me."

The straightforward words made Bao Jing stagger slightly, but fortunately his quick reflexes allowed him to steady his stance in time.

He glanced around, his gaze wandering: "With so many people, that's not good."
