Chapter 170: Going to Train
"Aren't we taking missions just to earn Contribution Points? Why would we do missions when we have money; that's just looking for trouble."
Ji Jiangci was about to speak when Yi Yang interrupted: "Let me speak, let me speak."
Yi Yang shoved Ji Jiangci aside, and with a thump knelt before Ye Xi'an; the sound of his knees hitting the floor made Ye Xi'an wince just hearing it, yet Yi Yang, as if nothing, began to babble: "Ordinary beastfolk take missions to earn Contribution Points; only with Contribution Points can they survive."
"But we, who have a clan, are different," he said proudly. "We no longer worry about survival, so we must worry about the insect race's invasion."
"The insect race is extremely powerful; only by continuously taking missions to improve abilities can one survive the insect tide."
"Therefore, rich or poor, we must take these missions."
Ye Xi'an: "But I've lived this long and never seen any insect race. Have you?"
"Um…," Yi Yang hadn't seen them either; it's said Zhu Shen Xing hasn't been harassed by the insect race for over twenty years, but his parents taught him otherwise, and the males always take their parents' words as truth: "I haven't seen them, but they really exist!"
"I've seen them." When the insect race was mentioned, Lin Zhi Jing's expression grew solemn: "They are terrifying creatures, not just in appearance but also by nature they frighten beastfolk."
"The insect race raids beastfolk's supplies and even abducts them back to their planet."
Lin Zhi Jing paused, his voice grim: "Do you know why they abduct beastfolk?"
Ye Xi'an was frightened by Lin Zhi Jing's expression and stared blankly, shaking her head.
"If it's a male, the insect race implants eggs into the male's body; large eggs are forced in through the mouth, nostrils, or anus, while small ones seep through the pores."
"If they capture a female…" Lin Zhi Jing looked at Ye Xi'an, who swallowed nervously: "What about females?"
"They will mate with the female, fertilizing the small eggs, and then a swarm of insects will crawl over you, their hard mouthparts calling you 'mother' and demanding to drink your milk~"
"Ah~~ ah—, so scary! Stop talking!"
Ye Xi'an flopped into Ji Jiangci's arms; just the thought of that scene made her scalp itch and her whole body shiver with horror.
"I haven't finished; the most terrifying thing isn't the little insects, it's the insect race's genitalia…"
"Enough, stop." Ji Jiangci frowned and cut Lin Zhi Jing off: "Can't you see my wife is already terrified?"
"You can't indulge her like that." Though Lin Zhi Jing tends to serve Ye Xi'an in every way, regarding the insect race he must make Ye Xi'an understand the seriousness.
"I'm not being indulged!" Ye Xi'an leapt from Ji Jiangci's arms: "Don't worry, I'll lead you on missions, and then we'll become the strongest clan on Zhu Shen Xing!"
Lin Zhi Jing raised an eyebrow, arms crossed: "Then are we still fighting the Death Star police?"
"That's a recreational activity, of course we fight."
"Tch~"
After the meal, Ye Xi'an, on a whim, wanted to check out the training hall they often mentioned.
She was also haunted by Lin Zhi Jing's words, thinking of training herself so that if anything happened she'd have some self‑defense.
As soon as Ye Xi'an entered the training hall, a sharp smell mixing sweat and various abilities hit her.
Looking up, the vast space was filled with animals sprinting across the arena, and multicolored abilities lit the area brilliantly.
Each clan occupied its own territory, training independently.
Ye Xi'an scanned around but didn't see Qiu Yi; he must not have come.
"Let's train over there," Ji Jiangci said, pointing to an empty area suitable for them.
"Show me your abilities first."
"Alright."
Ji Jiangci raised his hand, green light rose from the ground, and the next second thick vines shot up, reaching half the height of the hall, and he slammed them hard onto the sandbag before him.
"Watch me."
Bao Jing darted like lightning, weaving through the obstacle course.
Wind‑type ability enveloped his body, generating a whistling gust.
Each turn he made was accompanied by a sharp whoosh.
Lin Zhi Jing manipulated metallic threads, weaving a complex net in the air; the metallic‑type ability's sheen was cold and sharp.
Yi Yang stood awkwardly beside Ye Xi'an: "I only have level one, I'm pretty weak."
"What's the problem? Train a bit and you'll be fine. Quick, show me."
Yi Yang nodded; earth blocks enveloped his muscles, the earth‑type ability making his body sturdier.
He let out a low roar, muscles tensed, grabbed a one‑ton barbell from the ground, and gritted his teeth to lift it up and down.
They all trained hard, yet their eyes kept drifting unintentionally toward a corner of the arena.
Ye Xi'an stood there, wearing loose training clothes, her purple shoulder‑length hair tied in a simple ponytail.
Ji Jiangci inhaled deeply, the vines' strikes grew fiercer, and the sandbag emitted a deep moan.
Bao Jing's speed suddenly surged, almost becoming an after‑image; he even performed several high‑difficulty moves in the air, each looking especially cool.
The metallic net in Lin Zhi Jing's hands grew denser, leaving virtually no gaps.
Yi Yang grabbed a stone and ran around the arena; his steps were heavy but steady.
They all strived to showcase their strength and skill, trying to catch Ye Xi'an's attention.
But unfortunately, they were like embroidery for a blind man; Ye Xi'an didn't notice any of their specialties, assuming all beastfolk training was like this.
"Alright, I'm starting training too!"
She closed her eyes, her spirit power spreading outward like a tide, and the faint sounds in the hall instantly amplified.
The hum of equipment, the drip of sweat, even the sound of their blood flowing, and the myriad colored glimmers emitted from the beastfolk's bodies.
She now fully understood: those lights represented the beastfolk's ability attributes.
Yellow denotes metal type, white is mental, red fire, blue water, black Space System, brown earth; other colors Ye Xi'an hasn't seen yet, most are these.
The white light she previously saw inside a mutant was actually the mutant's weak point; that white light shrinks as her ability level rises, making the weak spot more precise.
She activated her Space System ability again, training precise teleportation, otherwise she'd never know where the ability sent her.
Her body vanished instantly, reappearing a few meters away the next second; the spot was slightly off, Ye Xi'an clicked her tongue and tried several more times until a dull resistance was felt inside.
