Chapter 179: Gu Feng Saves the Scene
But Bao Jing and the others are badly wounded!
Lin Zhi Jing reinforced the eggshell with his metal ability while urging Ye Xi'an: 'If you don't let them out, the only result will be death.'
"Ye Xi'an, do you really want us all to become breeding beds for the Zerg?"
Ye Xi'an pressed her lips, finding it hard to decide; reason told her she should let Bao Jing and the others out to fight the Zerg, but thinking of their blood-soaked state, she wondered: wouldn't letting them out now just be sending them to their deaths?
"An'an, I know what you're thinking."
Lin Zhi Jing lowered his brows: 'We males exist by struggling to survive; you can't, out of pity, deprive them of their only means of survival.'
"Rather than protect them while they slowly wait to die, it's better to let them come out and give it their all—if they live, it's luck; if they die, they'll have no regrets, at least they'd die protecting the females; don't hesitate any longer, An'an!"
Ye Xi'an felt her heart clench, tears welling in her violet eyes; for the first time she truly sensed the cruelty of this world.
"Alright, I'll let them out."
Bao Jing and the two others suddenly appeared in Xiao Shijie, immediately realized what had happened, and loudly called for Ye Xi'an inside Xiao Shijie, panicking to the point of running in circles.
Fortunately, not long after they were released again, with no time to scold them, each first used their abilities to reinforce the eggshell once more, then immediately resumed fighting.
Although Ye Xi'an had let Bao Jing and the others fight, she herself wasn't idle; her gaze hardened, light swirling in her violet pupils as her mental power took on substance.
After her psychic ability rank rose to four, her psychic threads could already launch substantive attacks like vines, and since the enemy could see those threads, they were practically the perfect weapon for ambush.
Seeing some insects suddenly drop from midair, Bao Jing knew Ye Xi'an had acted; his gaze softened for less than a second before turning even more ruthless as he frantically harvested the Zerg lives inside the house.
As time passed, they all felt their abilities nearing exhaustion; their limbs grew weak and their vision darkened intermittently.
Ye Xi'an opened her eyes and ordered Lin Zhi Jing: 'I don't need you protecting me here—go out and fight alongside Bao Jing and the others!'
Lin Zhi Jing's eyes flickered: 'But...'
"No buts—I told you to go, so go!"
This time she didn't put on the previous pretended fierce airs of a household head; instead she truly made Lin Zhi Jing feel the dominance of a female, like an emperor in name only who, upon seeing his people suffer, suddenly gains the decisiveness and aura of a sovereign.
The beastfolk of Zhu Shen Xing were right: when a female truly matures, she is fully capable of bearing a leader's responsibility.
"Okay."
Lin Zhi Jing quickly opened the eggshell, leapt out, and immediately sealed it again—though a few might slip in, he believed Ye Xi'an could handle them.
As soon as Lin Zhi Jing acted, millions of silver needles rained down like rain, piercing the insects and then automatically retracting for repeated use.
"How did you get out? Get back in quickly." Ji Jiangci's face turned deathly pale, frightening; the qi and blood he had painstakingly built up seemed to have been drained all at once.
"It's not like you're useless—just hold on." Lin Zhi Jing's long lashes twitched: "Ideally you'll hold out until the Federation sends troops to rescue us."
As soon as those words were spoken, everyone's hearts sank.
The Federation's troops will surely support the First Ring families first; they in the Second Ring don't even know how long they'll have to wait. They all know this is a brutal battle, and it's very possible that someone among them will never see Ye Xi'an again.
Flying insects piled up on the ground in layer after layer, their height already surpassing Bao Jing and the others' knees; Lin Zhi Jing's silver needles were down to a pitiful few, struggling to block the surrounding flying insects.
Meanwhile, Bao Jing, Ji Jiangci, and Yi Yang had long since lost their abilities, wielding ordinary kitchen knives to chop wildly at the air.
All four were drenched in blood, while Ye Xi'an inside the eggshell had tears streaming down her face.
She didn't want to just watch them step by step walk toward death at a moment like this.
"Lin Zhi Jing... Bao Jing.... Ji Jiangci, Yi Yang."
Ye Xi'an called out their names with a red nose.
The muffled call came faintly from the thick eggshell, yet the four males heard it loud and clear.
"Don't be afraid, An'an, I'll protect you." Bao Jing's voice was weak, but he still strove to make it clearer.
"That's right, wife; even if we die, we'll definitely not let those damned insects touch you."
Yi Yang was so weak he started sticking out his tongue, yet he still imitated Bao Jing in comforting Ye Xi'an.
Until the four were exhausted, Lin Zhi Jing knelt on one knee, straining to prop himself up with both hands, and lifted his bloodshot eyes toward the window.
"Damn it, is the Federation eating shit? Why so slow?"
Bao Jing gave a bitter laugh: 'Lin Zhi Jing, I didn't expect you to swear too.'
They looked at the endless stream of flying insects, knowing they couldn't hold out, so they finally reinforced the eggshell, then collapsed when they could no longer endure.
In an instant, the swarming insects clung to them like strong glue, beginning to frenziedly suck their blood.
The next second, the four on the ground vanished again.
Indeed, Ye Xi'an saw they truly couldn't hold on and sent them back into Xiao Shijie.
Ye Xi'an hugged herself, feeling the eggshell hum from impacts by the outside flying insects, and in the end it still broke.
Once the sturdy eggshell had a breach, its collapse was instantaneous; Ye Xi'an ran into Bao Jing's room the moment the shell fully cracked and locked the door behind her.
She ran to the window, intending to jump out, but seeing the scene outside, she thought she might as well stay inside and wait to die.
Just as she thought she was doomed, the surrounding temperature surged rapidly.
"Boom!!"
An explosion blasted outside the door, blasting open Bao Jing's room door as well; flames like blazing flowers bloomed before the doorway, lighting Ye Xi'an's whole face a fiery red.
The flames were crimson with a faint blue edge, their temperature astonishingly high; the Zerg's hard carapace rapidly melted and carbonized in the fire, not even having time to scream before only a scorched smell drifted out.
A scorching heat wave hit her face, and Ye Xi'an instinctively narrowed her eyes.
In the firelight, a tall, straight figure stepped before her, shielding her from danger.
He turned his head; his familiar handsome face was smudged with soot, the bruises and swelling not yet faded—it was Gu Feng.
He panted, his eyes anxious as they swept over Ye Xi'an.
"Are you alright?"
His voice was a little hoarse, carrying the breathlessness after intense exertion.
And the pair of horns on his head, which he had always regarded as a disability and a disgrace, now emitted a faint, lava-like dark red glow that resonated subtly with the fire aura surrounding him.
