Chapter 38: See You Off Tomorrow Morning
Ye Xi'an put on the shirt, but the other person's shirt was too big, hanging loosely on her.
Even with all buttons fastened, her chest remained exposed; she could only pull the shirt back to look presentable, but fortunately the hem was long enough, reaching mid-thigh, like her previous skirt.
When Lin Zhi Jing returned, this was what he saw.
The snow-white-skinned female wore his shirt, bare feet on the cold ceramic tiles, the loose silk shirt's hem hanging to mid-thigh.
The shirt's semi-transparent fabric clung to her shoulder blades, faintly revealing what lay beneath; the collar exposed half her collarbones, and the cuffs were rolled three times, still bunched at her elbows.
As she jumped down from the experimental table, her purple curls slipped from her shoulders, revealing her snow-white nape, which under the lab's harsh lights formed a faintly glowing arc.
Lin Zhi Jing's gaze darkened, his throat moved, and at that moment a cry came from behind him.
"What a beautiful female!"
He was a soldier experimental subject randomly grabbed from the training base; Lin Zhi Jing glanced back at the male, his look a warning.
Seeing Lin Zhi Jing's gaze, the soldier immediately shut his mouth, retreated a step in fear, and his expression showed he was no stranger to Lin Zhi Jing's mistreatment.
"Go out first and wait for me at the door."
The soldier immediately stood straight, right hand flat on his brow: "Yes!"
Having said that, he ran off like a fly.
Ye Xi'an saw the soldier quickly leave, didn't think much of it, walked up to Lin Zhi Jing and said, "I've finished testing your medicine; can I go now?"
Lin Zhi Jing frowned: "Who said the testing is done? I saved your husband's life—do you really think those few doses were enough?"
"Then how long will you keep testing? You can't just keep testing me without saying when it ends."
Ye Xi'an was really helpless; why did this Doctor Lin insist on her testing drugs? Her constitution rendered any medicine useless.
Lin Zhi Jing circled his left hand around his waist, rested his right elbow on his left arm, fingers idly rubbing his pointed chin, thought a moment, then said: "Then today, you'll test my medicine; tomorrow morning I'll have the soldiers send you away."
Ye Xi'an agreed without hesitation, turned and was about to lie back on the experimental table.
Watching the female's long legs sway beneath the shirt's hem, thinking he'd soon need to let the outside soldiers in, Lin Zhi Jing went to fetch a pair of pants: "Wait, put on the pants first, so later you won't say I didn't give the female clothing."
Ye Xi'an picked it up and saw it was a soft white cotton pair of long pants, but the length seemed too long.
Ye Xi'an stood straight, lifted the pants and held them against herself—they reached up to her chest.
"Do you have shorts?"
"No, do you want underwear?"
Lin Zhi Jing sized up Ye Xi'an's small buttocks; they were less than half his size, so he guessed his underwear could be worn as shorts by her.
Ye Xi'an: …… You're quite humorous.
"I suddenly think these pants are quite good."
Ye Xi'an struggled to pull the pants on; they were too long, like wrapping two fishing nets around her legs, causing her to stumble with each step, like a clumsy little duck.
Lin Zhi Jing laughed at his own imagination, then grew curious about Ye Xi'an: "What is your beast form?"
"Surely it's not really a duck, right?"
Ye Xi'an was still wrestling with the pant legs; to walk better she could only roll them up: "My beast form is a Ragdoll cat."
"A Ragdoll cat?" Lin Zhi Jing looked at Ye Xi'an's round eyes, fluffy hair, slender limbs and soft bones—she indeed resembled a soft Ragdoll cat.
After Ye Xi'an got the pants on, Lin Zhi Jing then called the outside soldiers in.
The soldier, well-practiced, walked straight to the experimental table and lay rigidly upon it; though his heart was panicked, he forced a calm expression.
After Ye Xi'an rolled up her pants and stood, she found the experimental table occupied by the soldier; she looked at Lin Zhi Jing: "He's lying there—where am I to lie?"
Lin Zhi Jing pointed to a distant chair: "Sit there, sit far away, so you won't get hurt later."
Hearing Lin Zhi Jing's words, the soldier, already nervous, broke into a cold sweat; he looked at Lin Zhi Jing with hopeful eyes: "Doctor Lin, what effect does today's reagent have? It shouldn't be too bad, right?"
Lin Zhi Jing smiled slightly, tore the soldier's uniform with a raised hand, quickly attached the instrument's sensor to him, swiftly drew the Energy Enhancer, and ruthlessly jabbed it into his arm: "Don't worry, it won't kill you."
The needle injected into the vein emitted an eerie yellow glow; Lin Zhi Jing's prominent-knuckled wrist twitched, and he pushed the entire reagent in.
As the needle was withdrawn, the experimental table shot out ten or so chains as thick as a grown man's arm, binding the soldier airtight to the table, nearly fusing with the iron-cast table.
The reagent entered his body and began to take effect; the soldier's neck veins bulged, his originally thick wild brows twisted into knots, and his scarlet eyes filled with dark red bloodshot lines.
With a roar, the soldier erupted in flames, fire spreading across his eye sockets, even the iron chains binding him turning red-hot.
Lin Jingzhi looked at the burning figure on the table, felt no fear, and instead asked the fire-person: "How do you feel?"
The soldier glared with his burning eyes, his mouth spewing a one-meter-high column of flame, his voice thick with unavoidable pain: "What do you think! Ah——"
Lin Zhi Jing nodded approvingly; he could still speak—not bad.
As the drug's effect fully took hold, the surrounding instruments emitted a low hum.
The screen flickered with dense data, lines and numbers constantly shifting, as if telling of the uncontrollable power within him.
Ye Xi'an looked at the fiery scene over there, somewhat curious about how this Doctor Lin managed to produce such a commotion.
But she valued her life and dared not approach.
On the instruments, the soldier's heart rate surged past 300, his blood pressure also spiking, exceeding three times the normal range.
The soldier's body began to spasm uncontrollably, the detection table emitting a faint tremor; the brainwave chart on the instruments fluctuated wildly, the once steady line turning chaotic, as if some force had utterly disrupted it.
Red cracks appeared on his skin, glowing beneath like molten lava.
Lin Zhi Jing looked at the screen with a half-smile; his bone density also increased fivefold.
Suddenly, an energy fluctuation monitor emitted a sharp alarm; the screen's energy reading had surpassed the limit, jumping straight to "ERROR".
The soldier's breathing grew ever more rapid, his chest heaving violently; suddenly he flung his eyes open, a flicker of eerie red light flashing in his pupils.
