Chapter 48: The Wings Smell of Ye Xi'an
Bao Jing felt both amused and exasperated, but Ye Xi'an insisted on liking his previous appearance, so he had to compromise, deliberately putting on a cold and distant demeanor, speaking concisely: "Ye Xi'an, go take a bath."
"Ah!" Ye Xi'an felt much more comfortable; that's right.
Bao Jing tried to pick up the clothes on the floor, but Ye Xi'an immediately stopped him: "Don't touch!"
Ye Xi'an, while looking at Bao Jing, quickly grabbed the clothes from the floor and, like a mouse that had just stolen something, flew to behind the medical room's barrier and put on the clothes.
Once Ye Xi'an couldn't see him, Bao Jing could no longer hold back and broke into a grin; his wife was just too adorable.
He just didn't dare make a sound, exaggeratingly bending his knees like a mime, twisting his body wildly.
Who understands the joy of just realizing his feelings for his wife and then getting together with her? Did he save the galaxy in his past life?
Ye Xi'an came out dressed, and Bao Jing immediately reverted to his previous cold demeanor, only to frown when he saw what she was wearing.
This size is obviously not hers, and aren't they supposed to be a couple's outfit? Speaking of couple's outfits, Bao Jing then realized his top was gone, leaving only his pants.
Where is his couple's outfit?
Before he could even ask, Ye Xi'an let out a startled cry.
Ye Xi'an seemed to have suddenly discovered something, her eyes wide round, she covered her mouth in surprise and stared at Bao Jing's upper body, walking around him.
Bao Jing, puzzled, lowered his head to examine his body and found nothing wrong: "What's up?"
Ye Xi'an blinked hard, looking at his broad shoulders and narrow waist, his back smooth as before, thinking she was seeing things—she clearly remembered Bao Jing's back yesterday was a mess of scabs big and small, yet now it looked as if he'd never been injured.
To make sure she wasn't hallucinating, Ye Xi'an gently placed her palm on Bao Jing's smooth back, sliding slowly from his shoulder blades along the spine.
The skin beneath her hand was even and firm, not a scar in sight.
Bao Jing hadn't expected Ye Xi'an to suddenly touch him; he stiffened at first, then gradually relaxed.
He asked again: "What are you looking at?"
Ye Xi'an now knew she wasn't mistaken; delighted, she leapt into Bao Jing's arms and clung to him, bouncing up and down excitedly in his embrace.
She looked at Bao Jing, eyes full of joy: "You haven't noticed your wounds are completely healed? Right."
Ye Xi'an released her grip on his arm hanging at his side: "Your wings—let them out and see if they're healed too."
Bao Jing had been secretly pleased that his wife hugged him, but hearing Ye Xi'an's words, he froze for a moment—yeah, he was still injured, even the beastmen's prized beastly form was damaged, yet now he felt no pain at all.
He bent his arm backward and felt only smooth skin.
The next second, Bao Jing's wings unfurled against the light in the medical room with a swish, each feather's edge glowing silver, as if an angel had descended from heaven to bestow radiance upon the world.
Bao Jing touched his own wings in disbelief: "Really... healed?"
He muttered to himself, a flicker of confusion crossing his eyes.
He could even feel that these wings were stronger and more slender than before, and they carried Ye Xi'an's scent.
Huh? Bao Jing blinked, wondering why his wings smelled of Ye Xi'an, and with that thought he turned his gaze to her face.
Ye Xi'an was feeling happy; thinking back to how guilty she'd felt over the time Bao Jing's wings were torn while protecting her, seeing his body restored to normal made her genuinely glad for him, and her constantly aching heart felt much better.
Just seeing Bao Jing's dazed look at her, Ye Xi'an asked, puzzled: "What's up, spacing out? Aren't you happy your wings are healed?"
Bao Jing shook his head, smiling: "No, it's just... why do my wings smell entirely of you?"
His guess was that last night they'd been too intense, possibly accidentally getting something on his wings.
But Ye Xi'an didn't think so; his words made her heart skip a beat.
How could a wing that can retract into the body have her scent, and why did Bao Jing heal completely overnight?
Ye Xi'an had a guess and asked: "Is the males' self-healing ability really this strong?"
Bao Jing stood straight, craning his elongated neck to look at Ye Xi'an at chest level, and gently shook his head: "Even a level-ten superpowered beastman couldn't have such heaven-defying self-healing."
Even the wings reduced to just bone had regrown and become stronger—this isn't something male self-healing can achieve.
Ye Xi'an's face darkened; she had basically confirmed her suspicion.
Since her drug-resistant constitution came with her, she guessed the limitless regenerative ability must be here as well.
As for why this ability healed Bao Jing's wounds, Ye Xi'an thought it was due to last night's intimate contact.
Perhaps her bodily fluids served as the medium.
Ye Xi'an couldn't help but twitch her mouth; how had her constitution suddenly turned into this kind of restricted setting?
"Forget it, let's go—take me out to find somewhere to bathe."
Ye Xi'an pulled open the medical room door and saw Lin Zhi Jing already in casual clothes, regarding her coldly through his silver-rimmed glasses.
"Lin Zhi Jing? What are you doing here?"
Lin Zhi Jing gave Bao Jing a faint glance, and when he saw his healed back, a flash of light passed through his icy lenses.
"This is my medical room; if I'm not here, where else could I be? And you two, you took it over for a whole night without consulting me—couldn't you at least say thank you?"
Upon seeing Lin Zhi Jing, Bao Jing flared up: "If he hadn't woken up in time yesterday, would he have tried to take my place as the third wheel?"
"How dare you speak! What you did to my wife yesterday is enough to be reported to the Empire and get you punished!"
Ye Xi'an had also been a bit angry seeing Lin Zhi Jing, and although she'd agreed to let him test medicine on her, he shouldn't have given her an aphrodisiac.
But hearing Bao Jing call her "my wife" instantly deflated her.
For some reason, when Yi Yang called her she felt used to it, but when Bao Jing did, it inexplicably gave her goosebumps—surely the gap between him and before was too great for her to accept right away.
Ye Xi'an tugged at Bao Jing's sleeve, telling him not to be angry with Lin Zhi Jing: "Bao Jing, don't say that. It was Doctor Lin who saved us; let's thank him first."
After thanking him, they needed to leave quickly; they had no idea how Ji Jiangci and Yi Yang were doing.
Bao Jing never expected that the one who saved him would be the person right in front of him; he couldn't bring himself to repay kindness with enmity, so reluctantly he thanked Ye Xi'an together with her.
"Thank you for saving me; give me some time and I'll pay you appropriate compensation."
Lin Zhi Jing wore a white cotton short-sleeve today with loose gray trousers, arms crossed, smirking at Bao Jing: "No need, Ye Xi'an has already paid me the proper compensation."
After saying that, he deliberately gave Ye Xi'an an ambiguous smile.
