Chapter 52: Don't Be Too Kind to Males
The body and hard car glass slammed together with a loud bang; before Bao Jing could react, Lin Zhi Jing jerked open the car door, hauled the slightly concussed Bao Jing off the glass, grabbed his hair and forced him to meet his gaze.
Ye Xi'an sensed something was off, and she also flung open the car door and rushed out.
She saw Bao Jing, his face contorted in pain, eyes still shut, held in Lin Zhi Jing's grip.
"Lin Zhi Jing, what are you doing?"
Ye Xi'an grabbed Lin Zhi Jing's arm, trying to make him let go of Bao Jing.
But Lin Zhi Jing was now furious, his muscles rigid as metal, and she couldn't pry him loose.
Lin Zhi Jing's beautiful phoenix eyes flicked to Ye Xi'an; the stunning female anxiously watched her Beast Husband, even though her Beast Husband made her endure such a life.
Instantly, the furious Lin Zhi Jing grew even more furious, a flicker of jealousy crossing him, yet his face betrayed little emotion—he simply snapped his head back and gave Bao Jing a cold stare.
Ye Xi'an treats Bao Jing so well—she went alone to the Free Zone to find a doctor for him, willingly let herself be used as an Experimental Subject for him, and now she's here to stop herself.
He thought they should be a loving couple, living a happy, fulfilled life.
But he never imagined Bao Jing would bring Ye Xi'an to live in the Slum!
The Slum teems with desperate males; any female—no, anyone with eyes—can't hope to walk out of there unscathed.
A beautiful female like Ye Xi'an living there is nothing short of a lamb walking into a tiger's den—Bao Jing's actions show utter disregard for a female's life.
"How dare you let Ye Xi'an live in a place like that!"
As he spoke, Lin Zhi Jing punched Bao Jing in the face; afraid of hurting Ye Xi'an, who was gripping him, he deliberately struck Bao Jing with his other hand.
Once Bao Jing lay on the ground, his mind slowly cleared.
"Bao Jing, are you okay?"
Ye Xi'an anxiously crouched to check Bao Jing's condition, especially his back, feeling it over carefully; thankfully nothing was broken—it had just been mended, and she didn't want to ruin it again.
Bao Jing shook his head; his head felt like glue, sticky and painful: "I'm fine, don't worry."
Seeing Bao Jing was fine, Ye Xi'an finally relaxed, stood up angrily and shoved Lin Zhi Jing; Lin Zhi Jing had no defense against Ye Xi'an at all—though he could steady a car smashing into him, he staggered from her push.
Ye Xi'an demanded, "Why did you hit someone for no reason?"
Lin Zhi Jing froze, as if suddenly doused with cold water.
A gust blew; his sleek black coat fluttered bleakly in the north wind, and a handsome man who had finally mustered a shred of pity lightly shattered.
Lin Zhi Jing now wanted to show a heartbroken expression, but having been aloof for so long his muscles were stiff; to Ye Xi'an it looked like his facial muscles were twitching abnormally.
"Ye Xi'an, you haven't got it wrong, have you? I'm standing up for you, and you're blaming me?"
"What 'standing up' are you talking about?" Ye Xi'an looked bewildered, completely not understanding what Lin Zhi Jing meant.
"You tell me! He's a male letting a female live in the Slum—is that normal?"
Ye Xi'an blinked, realizing that's what Lin Zhi Jing cared about; she felt a little guilty, but it wasn't Bao Jing's fault—it was the Original Owner's doing.
But she couldn't speak of the Original Owner's deeds, so she said nonchalantly, "I actually like living in the Slum."
"Huh?" Lin Zhi Jing was baffled—how could anyone enjoy living in the Slum? Not even males would want to live there, and most females on Zhu Shen Xing don't even know the Slum exists.
His sharp gaze swept over Bao Jing, and suddenly he understood something.
Surely Ye Xi'an loves Bao Jing so much she wouldn't mind living in the Slum for him.
Thinking this, Lin Zhi Jing looked at Ye Xi'an with an exasperated "hate iron for not becoming steel" stare, making Ye Xi'an jump; it was the first time she'd seen such a rich expression on the Experiment Maniac's face.
She stepped back, arms crossed protectively in front of her chest, and said warily, "What are you doing?"
Only Lin Zhi Jing's earnest voice was heard: "Ye Xi'an, you simply haven't taken my words to heart!"
Ye Xi'an looked puzzled: why should she take Lin Zhi Jing's words to heart?
"I told you before, don't be too good to males, don't be too good to males! Look how you're overindulging this good-for-nothing—what's he like?"
Ye Xi'an was stunned by Lin Zhi Jing's shout, and instinctively followed his line, asking, "How is he?"
"He'll just let you live in the Slum!"
"If he had any savings before marriage, if he could go to the Mission Hall to take tasks, if he were just a bit more diligent, would he let you end up living in a place like that?"
Ye Xi'an was pressed on the shoulder by Lin Zhi Jing, so she could only silently turn her head and meet Bao Jing's gaze—both still sitting on the ground— their eyes saying what words could not.
Should she now let Lin Zhi Jing calm down a bit?
Tell him that Bao Jing actually had savings before marriage—not just him, but Ji Jiangci and the others too; they had savings, but she squandered them, even selling their clothes and jewelry.
It's not that Bao Jing and the others don't want to take missions; she deliberately kept the three of them from going.
Ye Xi'an was about to explain when Bao Jing stopped her.
"It's indeed my problem."
Bao Jing's eyes flickered with guilt: "If I had tried harder, I wouldn't have let you live in the Slum, getting harassed by Xiong Da and the others."
He rose from the ground, placed his hand on Doctor Lin's hand resting on Ye Xi'an's shoulder: "But Doctor Lin, don't you know you shouldn't come on to someone else's wife right in front of them?"
Although he accepts Lin Zhi Jing pursuing Ye Xi'an, he can't tolerate it in his presence—that's his final limit.
Saying that, Bao Jing gave a firm downward swipe, pulling Lin Zhi Jing's hand away.
Ye Xi'an saw the atmosphere between them turning strange again, so she hurriedly pushed Bao Jing into the car: "All right, all right, let's stop this and head back."
Bao Jing and Lin Zhi Jing's gazes locked, tense, until the car's middle seat separated them.
Max's speed was fast, but it still took eight hours to find Ye Xi'an's ramshackle home.
Lin Zhi Jing stepped out of the car, his face grave; here the sunlight was dim, the filthy ground hid countless piles of trash, countless shacks made of wood planks and plastic bags were jammed together, and the air reeked of faint feces and an ominous stench.
He pulled a handkerchief from his pocket, disgustedly covered his nose and mouth, and turned to search for Ye Xi'an's figure.
At this moment his eyes needed Ye Xi'an to purify them a bit.
He turned back and saw Bao Jing first open the door and step out, his hand resting on the car door's edge, reaching into the vehicle.
Immediately, a hand made of white jade rested on Bao Jing's broad palm.
