Chapter 62: Not Eating Dinner
After saying that, he warned and stared at Lin Zhi Jing: "We have no right to decide for Ye Xi'an. As for Doctor Lin, you're an outsider and have no authority to give orders—best not interfere in our family matters."
"Don't meddle?" Lin Zhi Jing sneered, his phoenix eyes narrowing dangerously behind the cold lenses: "Not meddle, and just let you lazy beastmen laze around at home, eating and waiting to die?"
"You can be lazy, but don't let Ye Xi'an suffer because of it."
"Doctor Lin, watch your words—how could we possibly be lazy and just eat and wait to die?" Ji Jiangci hadn't wanted to join the feud between Bao Jing and Lin Zhi Jing, and he actually hoped Lin Zhi Jing would join the family; after all, their family is too weak, and with Lin Zhi Jing, their missions would be twice as effective.
But if Lin Zhi Jing says they're lazy and just eating and waiting to die, he won't accept that.
He, Ji Jiangci, was the model virtuous and talented top scholar of his cohort at the Male Training Center, a paragon of a virtuous husband and good beast; even after being tricked by Ye Xi'an, he still diligently cleaned and tidied himself as much as possible.
The word "lazy" is practically an insult to him, even worse than saying he's incapable.
"There's no point in saying more." Lin Zhi Jing had no interest in wasting words with a group of males; since they wanted Ye Xi'an to decide, he'd just listen to what she said: "Ye Xi'an, what do you say?"
Ye Xi'an had originally planned to follow Lin Zhi Jing's suggestion and go on a mission tomorrow. But after glancing at Ji Jiangci and Bao Jing, she saw Ji Jiangci's face was still handsome but showed fatigue; it seemed the past few days hadn't been good for them—after all, without her, they couldn't even afford to pay, likely not even able to get a meal.
"Let's rest today and take the mission the day after tomorrow."
After saying that, Ye Xi'an took out some fruit from her space to fill her stomach; thinking that since coming to this world she had almost always been eating fruit, she felt a bit sad.
"Let's everyone eat something first."
Although Lin Zhi Jing was a bit unhappy that Ye Xi'an hadn't said they'd do a mission tomorrow, at least he hadn't indulged those lazy males; his expression improved considerably, and looking at the table full of fruit, he casually asked: "How big is your space?"
Before Ye Xi'an could even open her mouth, Bao Jing covered most of her face with one hand, his face guarded as he warned Lin Zhi Jing: "Family secrets, I won't tell."
Lin Zhi Jing's hand paused mid-reach for the fruit—was he guarding against him?
He narrowed his eyes dangerously at Bao Jing, said nothing more, but silently vowed that once he joined the family, he would make that damned Bao Jing regret it!
"Bao Jing, what are you doing?" Ye Xi'an pulled Bao Jing's hand off her face, her cute round eyes flashing with anger—she had almost been suffocated.
"Don't cover my mouth if it's nothing." She knows what should and shouldn't be said; she's not a three-year-old, for goodness' sake.
"Got it." Bao Jing smiled at the corners of his mouth, squeezing in between Ye Xi'an and Lin Zhi Jing whenever he could.
After finishing the fruit, Lin Zhi Jing stepped aside to wait for the meal.
But after Ye Xi'an and the others finished eating, those lying on the floor stayed on the floor, those on the bed stayed on the bed—no one started preparing dinner.
"You're not eating dinner and just going to sleep?"
Ye Xi'an lay on the bed, her eyes already glazed; she could feel midnight approaching, her words slurring: "Ah~ didn't we just eat? Has Yi Yang come back? If not, remember to leave the door open for him."
After saying that, she slowly lay back down on the bed, waiting for midnight's lullaby.
Lin Zhi Jing was confused—when had they just eaten? And why would they need to leave the door open in this house? There's no door at all.
He had wanted to ask more, but seeing Ye Xi'an sleepy, he decided to look for Bao Jing instead.
He walked to Ye Xi'an's bedside and kicked Bao Jing, who was sleeping on the floor nearby: "You're not making dinner for Ye Xi'an?"
Bao Jing didn't open his eyes, feigning sleep: "The fruit we just ate was dinner."
Before Lin Zhi Jing could scold him, Bao Jing added: "An'an isn't home, so Ji Jiangci and the others can't buy anything; it's too late now, so we can only make do with fruit for now."
"Don't worry, this is the last time tonight; tomorrow I'll go buy vegetables and cook."
Even though Bao Jing said that, Lin Zhi Jing remained dissatisfied: "Why wait until tomorrow? Ye Xi'an has just come of age, exactly when she needs to grow; doing this will starve her."
Moreover, they're not out of money—he remembered Ye Xi'an's account had tens of millions.
"But it's dark now; going to Huan Li and back to cook would take until dawn." Bao Jing didn't know why, but he was inexplicably tired—he had never been this tired before, his whole brain felt glued together with paste.
Watching Bao Jing about to fall asleep, Lin Zhi Jing's pent-up anger had nowhere to go: "I knew you lot were unreliable."
He opened his smartbrain, found the yellow icon on the screen, and inside were all kinds of food and fruit.
Not knowing what Ye Xi'an liked, he ordered a bit of everything; to get faster delivery, he chose shops from San Huan, which would arrive in about an hour.
Lin Zhi Jing stood alone at the doorway, waiting in the pitch-black cold wind for the delivery person to arrive.
The delivery person didn't show up, but Yi Yang came back first.
He was drenched in sweat, his clothes torn and hanging off him; it was obvious he hadn't taken them off when he shifted, causing them to rip.
Yi Yang panted: "Doctor Lin? Why are you standing here?"
As he drew near, a stink of evaporating sweat hit him; Lin Zhi Jing pinched his nose, his expression disgusted, and kept fanning his hand at Yi Yang: "Go take a shower."
"No water."
"Then stay away from me." Lin Zhi Jing was practically being smoked out: "Stay away from Ye Xi'an too."
Yi Yang, feeling a bit hurt, entered the house and searched everywhere for a rag to wipe himself down.
Even with Yi Yang far away, Lin Zhi Jing could still smell a faint, irritating odor, and he wondered how Ye Xi'an could tolerate living in such an environment.
Suddenly, a point of light appeared in the distance; in the blink of an eye it was right before his eyes.
A male in a cute rabbit costume sat on a rabbit-shaped flying device, picked up the box in front of him, and glanced at the order information.
"Last four digits 2587?"
"Yes."
"Your delivery has arrived."
"Mm."
Lin Zhi Jing took the delivery from the delivery person's hand, turned and went inside, placing it on the table.
He opened each delivery box, and also took out disposable chopsticks for Ye Xi'an, placing them on the steaming rice.
Everything ready, Lin Zhi Jing called for Ye Xi'an to wake up: "Ye Xi'an? Ye Xi'an!"
But after calling for a long time, she didn't wake up—not even a frown—if it weren't for Ye Xi'an's soft, warm body, he would have thought she was dead.
"Are you calling a soul?"
