Chapter 89: Sai Fulola 05
Hearing Ye Xi'an's shout, everyone instantly went on alert, each protecting his wife and jumping far away.
But after reaching the safe zone, when everyone looked over they found nothing strange—just a relatively dense thicket of shrubs; when the wind blew, the leaves rubbed together, making a soft rustling sound.
Song Bai, still shaken, turned his head to look at Ye Xi'an, his eyes filled with reproach; even as a female, she shouldn't scare people like that.
During this time they had been mentally weakened by the mutant vines, and could no longer tolerate any further mishaps.
Originally they were following Qiu Yi to come to Sai Fulola for a vacation, after all Sai Fulola is renowned as the most dreamlike planet.
But they never expected that shortly after arriving here they would encounter this damned mutant vine.
No one knows what material the mutant vine's outer skin is made of; no matter how they attacked, they could not harm it in the slightest, and one member of their clan was even seized.
They watched helplessly as the vine's tendrils coiled around their companion's waist and neck, suspending him in midair; from that tendril sprouted countless hair-thin tendrils that pierced his flesh, wriggling as if alive, seemingly sucking his blood.
They also tried flying up to chop off the vine's tendrils, but to no avail; they could only watch their companion grow increasingly emaciated.
"What are you yelling about for nothing?" Song Bai couldn't help but say to Ye Xi'an.
Lin Zhi Jing's eyes turned icy in an instant, and he raised his hand to pinch Song Bai.
Song Bai also didn't expect Lin Zhi Jing to suddenly attack; he panicked, leaning back to dodge the move, then tried to strike back with his waist, but found his body unable to move; he blankly looked at Qiu Yi and stammered, "Wife."
Qiu Yi merely glanced at him lightly and said, "Song Bai, Ye Xi'an is my friend."
Her friend is more noble than any male, even her husband.
Qiu Yi pulled Ye Xi'an over, brought her before Song Bai, and said in an overbearing tone, "Little Xi, slap his mouth."
But Ye Xi'an had no mind to retaliate against this male who wasn't very courteous to her, because she saw the white light in that thicket violently twisting, constantly shifting its form and colors in a chaotic way, seeming off, as if struggling to break some seal.
Ye Xi'an trembled as she raised her hand, pointing at the thicket: "Isn't it? Can't you see? The white light in the thicket is changing!"
However, the others just stared blankly, their eyes filled with doubt.
They did not see the changing white light that Ye Xi'an spoke of.
Bao Jing and the others did believe Ye Xi'an's words, but they couldn't see it.
"Let me go see what this thing actually is."
Lin Zhi Jing narrowed his eyes, raised his hand, and extended a finger-thick metal chain from his palm, slowly approaching the quiet thicket.
Until the metal chain touched the thicket, the thicket remained still, everyone showed disappointment, but Ye Xi'an clearly saw that as the chain approached, some particle-like thing surged toward the white light, after which the white light took on a metallic sheen.
Song Bai snorted through his nose: "I just said she was overreacting."
I really can't understand why his wife treats Ye Xi'an so specially—is it just because she's pretty? Or because she's female?
Hearing Song Bai courting death again, a male in a Zhongshan suit immediately jabbed his elbow into the immobile Song Bai: "Calm down."
"What gives! Just because she's female, are we supposed to let her run wild?"
Just as Song Bai's words fell, the thicket seemed to be infused with demonic power, and the nearby ground suddenly began to tremble violently.
The branches and leaves withered and turned yellow at visible speed, as if their life force had been sucked away; the next second, thick roots burst from the ground like steel rods piercing the foliage, shooting violently upward.
It grew until it reached fifty meters in height, then stopped; this inconspicuous thicket had actually become another mutant vine.
Before the crowd could recover from their shock, the mutant vine extended a thin, long branch that entwined with Lin Zhi Jing's metal chain.
Lin Zhi Jing frowned; the metal chain he himself produced is linked to his senses, and he could clearly feel the slick, binding sensation on the vine's surface, which felt disgusting.
The vine, not satisfied with merely wrapping the metal chain, followed it to drill into Lin Zhi Jing's palm; if Lin Zhi Jing hadn't retracted his metal chain in time, his hand would likely have been pierced by the vine.
The vine lost direction, became agitated, and began stabbing wildly without aim; everyone retreated, and Ye Xi'an was lifted into the air by Bao Jing.
Only Song Bai remained in place.
Song Bai's pupils contracted as he saw the vine, close at hand, relentlessly approaching him; chills ran down his back, adrenaline surged, his eyelids twitched involuntarily—he had never felt death so near.
"Wife! Save me!"
Ye Xi'an also saw the pleading Song Bai, somewhat anxious: "Qiu Yi! Your husband is still down there!"
Qiu Yi gave Ye Xi'an a reassuring smile: "Then are you still angry at him?"
"I wasn't angry to begin with; hurry and free him." Ye Xi'an watched the vine rush toward Song Bai, a bead of sweat forming on her forehead—would something happen?
Upon hearing Ye Xi'an say she wasn't angry, Qiu Yi then leisurely undid the mental restraint on Song Bai.
Just as Song Bai spread his wings to flee, a vine tendril pierced from his back through to his chest, flesh and blood spattering the ground, blood slowly seeping from the corner of his mouth.
He widened his eyes, unwillingly gazing at Qiu Yi's cold face, raising his hand as if to grab Qiu Yi into his palm.
As the vine withdrew from his chest, his vision blurred, and all that remained in his ears was the faint sound of the vine writhing, like some eerie whisper.
Song Bai collapsed to the ground, blood from his chest staining the surrounding soil; his fingers feebly scraped the earth, fingertips covered in dirt and blood.
He never imagined that merely uttering a sentence to a strange female would cause his own female master to abandon him.
Smelling the blood, the mutant vine became even more agitated, to the point that even another mutant vine noticed this side.
Near the vine's main body, branches sprouted thick and fast, enveloping Song Bai entirely, greedily drawing nutrients from his body; in a moment the green bulge shrank, vanished, and even the blood on the ground was sucked dry, as if nothing had happened at all.
Ye Xi'an looked at the gruesome scene below, opened her mouth, but could not utter a word.
Song Bai was the second person to die after she arrived on this planet.
If it were Ye Ling's death, she could still convince herself that he had betrayed first and deserved it.
But Song Bai—he only complained a sentence, and yet he died.
