Chapter 184: Truly impressive, my wife!
The large python that had inhaled Tibetan incense felt no pain at all; it only began to get angry when it saw its own eyes detach from its eye sockets.
The enraged large python lunged and bit toward Gu Rongjin's head; at this point, Gu Rongjin, who had already expended considerable internal energy, reacted half a beat slower, and he could see the python's tongue already reaching in front of his head!
At the critical moment, the huge snake's mouth suddenly froze, as if its acupoints had been struck, and the entire giant snake could not move a muscle.
What's going on?!
Gu Rongjin wiped away the python's saliva dripping on his face with disdain, while incredulously leaning forward to look.
He saw the python's elongated tail had, at some point, coiled around a large tree, loop after loop, and moreover, it had tightly knotted itself!
Gu Rongjin fixed his gaze and saw that beneath the python's tail were Mu Yuanzhi and the National Teacher waving at him.
He understood: they had taken advantage of the python's attention being on him to go tamper with it.
The python, whose senses were sealed by the Tibetan incense, had no idea its tail was being moved and bound, because it felt nothing—its body was essentially in an anesthetized state.
However, moving such a huge snake's tail to wrap around the trunk and tie a knot is no easy task; Mu Yuanzhi and the National Teacher could accomplish the task only thanks to the Tibetan incense's effect, which kept them from feeling fatigue.
By now the Tibetan incense had burned out completely, and Mu Yuanzhi soon sat weakly at the base of the trunk, not caring whether the python's tail above her head was secure or might fall on her.
Fortunately she arrived in time; heaven knows how worried she was when she saw him almost bitten by the giant python—her heart felt like it would stop—and without the Tibetan incense's effect, she would likely have been so frightened her limbs went limp.
At first she had been holding the Worry-Relieving Herb given by the National Teacher in her mouth, so she wasn't affected by the Tibetan incense; later, to bind the giant python, they both spat out the herb, and now she doesn't even want to move a muscle.
"Little Gu, come over quickly—the Tibetan incense has burned out, and this giant python is about to go mad!" the National Teacher shouted to Gu Rongjin in the distance.
Gu Rongjin glanced at the python whose tail was tightly bound, rendering it unable to move forward at all, and thought it was stupid and clumsy, not worth his attention.
The python seemed to sense the mockery coming from the humans and from what it presumed to be its prey; it instantly flew into a rage of shame and anger, gaping its mouth wide and desperately trying to bite people, but no matter how it struggled, it couldn't advance even an inch!
It could only rage helplessly.
Furious, it twisted its upper half wildly and let out a long howl to the heavens.
"It reeks!"
Gu Rongjin found it disgusting, jumped down, and moved away from the foul-mouthed giant python.
He ran to Mu Yuanzhi's side, sat down beside her, and praised his wife: "You're amazing, my lady!"
The National Teacher, who hid his talent and fame, silently retreated a bit.
"It's all thanks to the National Teacher's Tibetan incense," Mu Yuanzhi said, not taking credit, "I'm just a laborer."
"My wife working as a laborer is already hard enough," Gu Rongjin said, pulling Mu Yuanzhi's delicate hand over, "How could these little hands move such a giant python? Did you unleash hidden potential to save your husband?"
"You're so corny..." Mu Yuanzhi pushed him with her shoulder, "The National Teacher is still here."
"It's fine, Xiao Yang doesn't mind these things."
National Teacher: ……
"We need to go to Qilin and the others; I'm worried they might encounter these monsters and be unable to handle them," Mu Yuanzhi said, inevitably feeling concerned for her junior fellow disciple.
Gu Rongjin repeated his usual line: "What are you worried about? He has a vastly powerful demon monk by his side!"
"Amitabha, Patron Gu, why are you speaking ill of me behind my back?"
A familiar teasing voice sounded from behind.
Mu Yuanzhi turned her head abruptly and, as expected, saw the monk and her own junior fellow disciple together!
"Qilin, are you alright?" Mu Yuanzhi said, not knowing where the strength came from, she actually managed to stand up in an instant, but when she tried to walk, her legs went numb and she couldn't move…
"Let me help you," Gu Rongjin said, grabbing Mu Yuanzhi's waist and pulling her into his embrace.
"I'm fine, senior sister," Qilin said, pointing at the super-giant python before him and swallowing hard with difficulty, "How did you manage to take down such a monster?"
Gu Rongjin waved his hand: "It's a long story, but none of us three got injured."
"We were just being chased by a big tiger," the National Teacher added.
Still shaken, Qilin circled Mu Yuanzhi: "Are you really okay, senior sister? Why do you keep needing Gu Rongjin to support you?"
"I'm really fine; I just overexerted my strength and now have no energy left," Mu Yuanzhi said with a helpless smile.
Only then did Qilin relax: "We haven't encountered any monsters along the way; it turns out they all ran to you guys."
He glanced again at the madly thrashing giant python that was smashing into trees.
Just looking at it like that made him feel terrified.
"Now that we've all regrouped, we can set out to continue searching for Reed Wood and Fish Scale Wood," the National Teacher said.
"It's so dangerous; I think we should just run. Actually, the Symbiotic Gu isn't a big deal, senior sister, and Pei Shangling won't just die easily," Qilin said worriedly.
What if this place were filled with such colossal creatures? They'd eventually exhaust themselves!
Gu Rongjin disagreed: "Then the dangers we previously encountered would have been for nothing!"
That would be too uneconomical!
"Gu Rongjin is right; since we've come this far, we must find the remaining two pieces of wood," Mu Yuanzhi said firmly.
The monk curled his lips in a smile: "You've got real spirit; exploration should have this kind of attitude, and it's natural for a young patron like Qilin to be fearful."
"You really can't go a day without being shameless!" Qilin rolled his eyes.
"I'm actually your lifesaver," the monk said.
"Give me a break."
The monk said nothing, stopped arguing with Qilin, and instead walked up to the giant python.
"What are you doing?" Qilin asked, bewildered: "Don't get that close!"
"It's nothing." The monk flicked his Buddhist prayer beads at the python's head; the snake immediately calmed, its head lolled back, and it crashed heavily to the ground, shaking the earth and mountains.
Everyone stared, dumbfounded.
"My Tibetan incense couldn't even make it faint..." the National Teacher said, eyeing the monk anew as if seeing him for the first time.
Gu Rongjin couldn't help but applaud: "Impressive!"
"If he had come earlier, we wouldn't have had to struggle so hard," Mu Yuanzhi said, still utterly exhausted.
Qilin blinked: "Yan Yan, do you really know demonic arts?"
Otherwise, how could it have instantly dazed this giant snake?
The monk said helplessly, "Why isn't it an Immortal Art?"
"You don't look like a good person."
The Qilin voiced everyone's thoughts, and everyone nodded in their hearts.
"Amitabha, the Buddhist Dharma is boundless." The monk took back his Buddhist Prayer Beads, and right before everyone's eyes, he reached bare-handed into the snake's vital point and pulled something out.
"Rong Jin, his move is the same as yours."
