Chapter 251: Alive, see the person; dead, see the corpse

~7 min read 1,215 words

Mu Yuanzhi didn't turn her head: "Qilin, why don't you go first?"

"I'm not in a hurry, I'll wait for you, what are you looking for?" Qilin approached, "Do you want my help?"

"Found it!" Mu Yuanzhi took it out: "The iron piece that A Zi had placed in her throat before!"

"What are you doing with this? Studying it?" Qilin didn't understand, "Isn't this just an ordinary iron piece? The key principle shouldn't be in the iron piece itself, but in the technique, right?"

Mu Yuanzhi: "Never mind, let's study it first." She said while putting the iron piece back, "Let's go."

She and Qilin left the room together, and upon asking, she learned that originally the people who had gone with Qilin to attend the funeral hadn't returned.

"Could something have happened to them?" Mu Yuanzhi had a bad feeling.

Only Qilin came back after being hypnotized; maybe it's because Qilin himself is strong, while the others might not have been so lucky.

Qilin furrowed his brows, he tried hard to recall again, but aside from his head hurting, he gained nothing!

He simply couldn't remember what happened after they went up the mountain.

Not even a vague impression remained.

Mu Yuanzhi patted Qilin: "Let's hurry over."

"Mm."

That's a mountain not far from here, also a strategically important mountain near the prefecture; it's not exactly a feng shui treasure spot, but many families still choose to bury their relatives on this hill.

Qilin naturally wouldn't deliberately pick a feng shui treasure spot to bury this woman; to him, having ground to bury in was already merciful, and he said they should bury her in a pauper's grave!

"Qilin, Little Yuanzhi." Gu Rongjin came down from the mountain, "I've searched the whole hill, but found no one."

"You searched the whole hill that quickly?" Mu Yuanzhi was shocked.

Gu Rongjin: "Of course, who do you think I am? I'm the chief of Frost Descent!"

Qilin: "Chief, did you find any clues?"

"I'm asking you—you didn't take them away, did you?" Gu Rongjin was speechless at Qilin's sarcasm, "Quickly tell me the exact location—where did you dig the pit?"

Qilin: "Follow me."

As he walked, he suddenly remembered another person: "What about that stinky monk?"

"On the summit." Gu Rongjin said.

"How does he know we're digging the pit on the summit?"

The stinky monk is up to something again!

Gu Rongjin: "Really?"

"Yeah, I think the summit has better feng shui, so let's have them carry it up there." Qilin said.

Mu Yuanzhi blinked: "You still know feng shui?"

Qilin just laughed: "Intuition."

Gu Rongjin: "I'm impressed, luckily I'm agile."

"You could fly up there."

"Alright, I'll fly with my wife, you do as you please." Gu Rongjin said, then wrapped his arms around Mu Yuanzhi's waist and used lightness skill to fly up!

Mu Yuanzhi hadn't prepared, and suddenly she nestled into his broad chest, then they soared into the air!

Terrifying!

"How could you not let me prepare?!" Mu Yuanzhi clung to Gu Rongjin's clothes in fear.

Gu Rongjin, who was wholly relied upon, felt utterly exhilarated, he said teasingly: "Didn't I inform you?"

He tightened his hold around her waist, soothing: "Don't be afraid, if the sky falls, I've got you covered!"

She understood the reasoning, but……

But in her peripheral vision were the swiftly shifting landscapes, making her feel nauseous!

The whooshing wind beside her ears constantly reminded her how dangerous she was.

After great effort they reached the summit; only when Mu Yuanzhi's feet touched the ground did she finally relax.

Gu Rongjin still hadn't let go; after steadying Mu Yuanzhi, he supported her and tidied her hair messed up by the wind.

The monk walked over, interrupting their tender exchange: "Amitabha, the two patrons have arrived, but where did the key patron Qilin go?"

Gu Rongjin had no choice but to first release Mu Yuanzhi, saying: "He's climbing the mountain; he should be here shortly."

Mu Yuanzhi: "Has Master Yuan Yan discovered anything?"

"Come over here and look."

The monk led them over; Mu Yuanzhi and Gu Rongjin followed, and at first glance the patch of ordinary-looking earth seemed unremarkable, but the monk stopped and pointed, saying: "The previous pit was right here, wasn't it?"

Gu Rongjin crouched, picked up a bit of soil, rubbed it, then brought it to his nose to sniff: "There really is a strange fragrance here."

"Is that the scent from A Zi's body?" Mu Yuanzhi asked.

Could it really be buried in there?

Gu Rongjin hurried to explain: "No, that's not right; actually I'm not entirely sure either."

The monk chuckled and changed the subject: "This is the fragrance of a plant that can cause hallucinations."

Upon hearing that, Gu Rongjin hastily patted off the dirt on his hands.

Monk: "It's probably just a bit that got stuck in the soil."

"I'm here!" Qilin panted as he scrambled up to the summit, having used a bit of lightness skill; otherwise he wouldn't know when he'd finish climbing—maybe the Year of the Monkey and the Month of the Horse!

Mu Yuanzhi: "Qilin, come take a look—were you guys digging the pit here just now?"

"Exactly, that's the spot!" Qilin looked around: "Where are the people? Are they really all gone? Where did they go?"

"We need to see the person alive or the corpse dead!"

The monk curled his lips in a smile, gesturing for Qilin to go look at the spot they had dug earlier.

"What do you mean? You're not thinking that I'm buried down there, are you?" Qilin said, growing increasingly creeped out as he gazed at the now-level patch of earth, his expression complex.

Mu Yuanzhi: "Shall we dig it open and have a look?"

"Yuan Yan, you can split it open with one palm, can't you? Hurry up, don't dawdle!" Qilin urged.

Monk: "You think this doesn't consume inner strength? Just dig properly."

Qilin clicked his tongue, picked up the shovel that had fallen earlier, and began digging.

Gu Rongjin also came to dig; the monk took the last shovel and said to Mu Yuanzhi, "Miss Mu, you'd better wait, don't get your clothes dirty."

"Be careful."

"No need to be careful." Gu Rongjin said, "It's just digging a hole."

Mu Yuanzhi: "No, I mean, be careful not to dig up a person..."

Gu Rongjin nodded: "Okay."

Qilin: "Could there really be someone buried in there?"

Mu Yuanzhi: "I feel... yes."

The monk said nothing, silently digging.

"Something's there!" Qilin pointed at one patch of ground, "Is this a finger?!"

Gu Rongjin threw away the shovel, crouched down and used his hands to dig away; as the soil loosened, he could clearly see several fingers buried in the dirt.

Qilin closed his eyes.

"Qilin, it's not your fault." Mu Yuanzhi firmly squeezed Qilin's shoulder to comfort him.

Qilin: "If it weren't for my carelessness, they wouldn't have died..."

He suddenly squatted down, also using his hands to dig, digging nearby as if trying to ascertain something; his hands dug until they bled, yet he didn't stop, as if he felt no pain.

Monk: "Stop digging, I'll do it."

He pulled Qilin up, then squatted down and loosened the soil with his fingers, easily dragging out a corpse.
